24.01.2022 Today was a special day on #KangarooIsland as 300+ fruit trees donated by Balhannah Nurseries were distributed to gardeners who had lost theirs in summers bush...fires. Massive thanks to all the volunteers who helped sort and distribute them to those who came to collect today. The weather was miserable so we were able to be under the cover of this huge agricultural shed. 21.01.2022 We have had really busy, physical days at #ReGrowthPardana #communitygarden since we arrived on Monday. No internet at night where we are staying and evening #b...ushfiregardenrecovery talks have meant I havent shared as many pics as I hoped but we will share the lot when we catch our breath. Huge thanks to all the individual volunteers and all the volunteer organisation like Team Rubicon Australia , @All Hands and Hearts and Clontarf Foundation . The wicking beds are full of soil and clad with wooden panels. The #wildlifeexclusion cage is finished and the gates are almost functional (ok they are up but we got the wrong hinges so they dont yet swing!?) Water is connected and the sinks work. The perimeter #herbbed has been rotary hoed, had manure and compost added and planting commenced. The central table and benches have even been made. So we are almost ready to plant the #vegiebeds! 21.01.2022 Yesterday afternoons onsite #bushfirerecovery workshop outside of #Parndana on KangarooIsland was a chance to observe first hand how plants like #fruittrees an...d #vines do reshoot after #bushfire ...... yet be mindful of the fact that some could still fail at a later date (months or even a few years later) if the fire has ringbarked the trunk. The second onsite workshop is on Thursday afternoon 1.15-2.15pm close to Kingscote. Numbers strictly limited and bookings essential. If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything its perhaps the value of localism - local connections, local community... and the local economy are all so important and so closely intertwined. Our traders in Stirling have been feeling the love from our wonderful community, and now that restrictions are being eased they are keen to say thank you. Here it is in their own words. COVD-19 has meant that I am unable to deliver some of the #publictalks on Gardening after fire and so I have been working with Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board and Natural Resources SA Murray-Darling Basin and Darren Clements Photography to produce a series of videos covering this topic. 08.01.2022 Spent a few days at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in mid-September. Its no surprise that I took a heap of photos. 03.01.2022 Day 1 of #springopengarden at #SophiesPatch under this new world we find ourselves in has been amazing. Blown away by the number of visitors including many firs...t timers to my garden. We have also been stunned by the massive response to the savoury and sweet food boxes. We had a few teething problems as the booking site continued to take orders after we thought it was closed off, so apologies to anyone who missed out today and had to be refunded. We are all sorted for existing orders tomorrow and Monday, however we have had to close off on further tasting box preorders. Tickets to attend the open garden still need to be prebooked via https://sophiespatch.com.au//spring-open-garden-7-9-novem/ and there will be limited numbers of cake boxes available to purchase on the day tomorrow or Monday.
