25.01.2022 Great Aussie innovations that can be applied at a local level. https://www.google.com.au/a/amp.abc.net.au/article/11190266 Authorised by D Dyason, PO Box 117 Warrandyte, VIC, 3113

17.01.2022 Trawling through my late father’s photos I’ve found this photo of my Great, Great Great Grandfather. Woops, no, that’s Captain Cook. Sorry. But that begs the question: why did my own father keep a rather grand photo of Captain James Cook amongst his belongings? That’s easy. Cook was one of his heroes, as too was he the hero of most white Australian boys of his era. So, times change.... History and preservation are important priorities for all communities. Preservation of history allows us to develop a greater sense of place and belonging, even if our interpretation of it changes as we mature as a society. And mature we will hopefully. Surely it isn’t mature to blame Cook for the ultimate complexities he caused any more than you can blame yourself for that last trip to Bali. But in years to come, looking back at the collected documents and preserved artefacts, even your Bali trip might bring insight to a new generation. I support more funding for our Historical Society's activities, for they are providing insights for future generations. I would also seek some collaboration for the preservation of both Pontville (a fine relic of both the triumphs and folly of early settlement) and Longridge Farm homestead, so that they may not be lost. One of my long-term goals has been to initiate the design and building of a museum of local art, culture and history, incorporating the elements that give the Warrandyte district its unique context. I'd hope that it would become a key element of the Artist's trail, but of course, with the potential for it to be much more. Our Historical Societies would need to be foundation pillars in this project, and we will need to establish partnerships with groups that have the capacity to see this project through. Of course, this is a long-term objective, but a worthwhile one, I think. Authorised by David Dyason PO Box 117, Warrandyte 3113

17.01.2022 I just received a letter from my friend Ryan Smith. I call him my friend, not because I am inclined particularly towards any Party doctrine, but because Ryan has helped with so many of my community projects over the years that I call him a good friend. I urge you to sign his petition. Whilst it’s not the ultimate solution, we need to get some action happening some-how, and it needs to happen now rather than later. Let’s face it, to affect any profound outcomes we need to lo...ok years ahead, so we're pretty much on our own for this season anyway. My concern will always be with the use of fire as a long term tool for Fire Mitigation. My mission is to assemble advice from a wide range of Land Management experts with diverse experience and help facilitate a Body of Knowledge (BOK) from which everyone, from Government to us little people, can draw when making decisions on this increasingly urgent need Fire Mitigation. Instinctively I’m drawn towards indigenous wisdom in the discussion of Fire Mitigation and Land Management, and perhaps this is my starting point. However, my gut instinct tells me that, when the BOK is done, the primary tool in Land Management will not be Fire. The age of fire is passing and newer practices need to be developed and inserted into the BOK. https://www.facebook.com/435267276610362/posts/1990317194438688/ Authorised by D Dyason, PO Box 117 Warrandyte, VIC, 3113

14.01.2022 The Tindals Wildflower Reserve is one of my favourite places in Yarra Ward. Please tell me your favourite spot - why and what challenges its facing. This time of year the Wildflower Reserve has a plethora of real treasures. If you’re not sure where it is, then that's fine. If it remains a secret just a little bit longer then that's a bit longer before we need to rescue it.... The 100 Acres Reserve needs rescuing now. This gem should be protected by our Council with a passion. Increased pressure of use (which pre-dated COVID - although COVID hasn't helped) demands proper strategic planning and management, and it needs to happen whilst still there exists some fauna, not to mention its remnant species. This is a park for all to use (even us dog walkers) but with proper infrastructure and protection. Council, you need to come to the party. Authorised by D. 13.01.2022 When you elect me to Council I promise to halve your rates, increase your services, keep the bast**ds honest, save all your trees and chop them down as well, feed your dog and massage your baby. Yes, I know, I probably can't do any of that. Realistically I'm expecting that being a Manningham Councillor will be quite challenging. There will be the 2nd and 3rd termers, already dulled and conforming to process, and resigned to the reality of inertia. And then us newbies, all wit...h our own agendas, the promises that won your vote. Not to mention Council Officers, with years of collective experience - but let's face it, to them its just a job. Or is it? . . . I hope to find out. As your elected representative I'm hoping to inspire and be inspired. I'm hoping that with goodwill and some common objectives, in one term of Council great things could happen. I have my ideas and I have your support and your motivation. I'm privellaged as a candidate that wonderful people ring me every day with their ideas and concerns. If nothing else, we will all emerge out of this COVID mire and back to a better normal. Council has a strong leadership role to play, to make sure we all make it to the other side. Let's start by working at it together. https://www.facebook.com/daviddyason7/ Authorised by D Dyason PO Box 117 Warrandyte, VIC 3113 **Standard politican kissing baby photo taken under covid safe conditions

10.01.2022 In 1999 Manningham was a Recycling innovator. From a period when 100% of our waste went to landfill, the early introduction of recycling and the innovations in sorting was progressive. Today, at best, Manningham is a plodder. According to Jenni Downes of Monash University's Sustainable Development Institute many people have no idea what happens once rubbish is put in a bin because waste companies have "designed their services to be almost invisible".... Ms Downes says "They've tried to make it as simple and convenient for householders so that you put your waste in the bin, and it disappears. Poof, it's gone." [ref ABC- https://www.abc.net.au//where-does-all-australias/11755424] How does not really knowing what happens to your rubbish affect your diligence in not producing it? Or does it annoy you that you have no idea what happens after the green, yellow and red bins hit the curb? Why is the lifecycle of your refuse a secret? Do you think that if we asked Council to explain exactly where our rubbish and recyclables end up that some of our collective shame would help rehabilitate our addictively wasteful lifestyles . . . and potentially, equally shamed, prompt Council to spend a fraction of its voluminous policy making budget on developing a PROGRESSIVE WASTE STRATEGY? Can Manningham be a great innovator again? Image Source ABC.net.au Authorised by D Dyason PO Box 117 Warrandyte 3113

09.01.2022 A lot of people are asking me: "Are you affiliated or endorsed by any political party?" No, definitely not. I am not a member of any Party and never have been, I am not endorsed or affiliated with any Party.... I'm standing because I believe we need strong representation for the Park Orchards, Warrandyte and Wonga Park (the Yarra Ward Villages) and by using a collaborative approach. I would like much better and more transparent Planning processes. I want active business recovery support post COVID and active support for the disadvantaged. I've always been a passionately protector of the Green Wedge and I want to take a firm stance on the urbanisation of the Yarra Ward. I’ve lived in this area for 38 years, and have always worked hard as an advocate for local community. Many people ask then, towards which party do I lean, to which I answer - I seek no inspiration from any political Party. To be honest, none are that impressive. I'd like the think that Council can operate without their interference. All questions are welcome. Authorised by David Dyason PO Box 117 Warrandyte 3113

08.01.2022 My comment to Ben Frawley. Hi Ben, I also received the email from DDNA and have expressed my support for Netball in Manningham. The "White Road" issue is puzzling to say the least. I think that I'm particularly looking forward to being a working part of Council, to find out how a decision is made to spend a lot of money on a white road. Is it a cutting edge experiment that has the potential to make a quantum leap in innovative road building? Or is it a department making decisions without any concerns for subsequent accountability? Perhaps we will work on this together one day. Authorised by David Dyason, PO Box 117, Warrandyte 3113.

04.01.2022 Transport Planning Are you a commuter? Do you use public transport or would you if it felt safe and it was halfway efficient? Unfortunately, most of us almost never use public transport. We drive everywhere because the option doesn’t cut it for us. This is why you public transport users are so special. You are less likely to make a large footprint and less likely to contribute to congestion than the rest of us, even if we buy Green Power and go vegan.
