25.01.2022 Thank you teachers Sushila and Julie, for delivering 30 Kits made by the students of Katanning Senior High School during 2019/20 school years. Due to a decrease in student numbers and changes in the curriculum for 2021, DfG will no longer feature in the Health/Children, Family & Community program for Yr 12 students. We congratulate and salute Sushila for incorporating DfG into her program over the past 5 five years. "It's been an amazing journey to expose and educate our students to the realities of life for girls in other parts of the world, as well as teach them practical skills involved in making DfG Kits". Thank you too, to Julie of Katanning Rotary Club for introducing DfG to Sushila and sponsoring the program. Awesome work, ladies.

24.01.2022 Had to drive to Manjimup last week to go to the CBA so while in town, arranged hand overs of work to two of our solo home sewists. We abided by the social distancing rules and chatted and laughed our few moments together from afar. Thank you Elaine and Mary. You gals are awesome.

23.01.2022 Every now and again, we test our Transport Sacs to make sure they are properly heat sealed and will hold water. Candy is doing the test this time. PERFECT!

22.01.2022 Thank you Janet for this delivery of underwear and overlocked liners. Love your work.

21.01.2022 The first 2020 DfG distribution of our partner - Poliamba DfG Enterprise in PNG. They educated and presented DFG kits and reading books to Madina Primary School. So good to see you out and about again. This was posted on their FB page recently. Well done beautiful ladies.

21.01.2022 Happy Birthday, Days for Girls! 12 years ago, a photo of Kenyan girls in red sweater school uniforms captured the birth of Days for Girls. They each clutched the first version of a Days for Girls Kit. Before we came, the girls sat on pieces of cardboard waiting for their periods to end... for days. My joy in that moment broke when one nearest to me smiled and said, Thank you so much. Before you came we had to let them use us if we wanted to leave the room and go to class. ...Behind her girls nodded in agreement. They later confirmed that they were being sexually exploited in exchange for a single disposable pad. That was the moment Days for Girls was born. This month, we are celebrating 12 years and 1.8 million women and girls served at Days for Girls International. Thank you for your continued support of this very important work it’s amazing what we have accomplished together. If there is one thing I have learned over the past 12 years, it is to never underestimate the power of a girl. Perhaps that is because I was once in her shoes. I knew what it felt like to feel invisible, and yet inside I believed I could do and be something special if I was only given the chance. We all can. As we head into the holidays, this is a time to think of how we can open doors for more girls all around the world who are just waiting for their chance... ...I believe that together, we can reach our goal of 2 million girls by the end of the year. We've got this! We've got her!. In gratitude, Celeste Mergens CEO & founder of DfG International

19.01.2022 Another batch of Transport Bags from our industrious home volunteer, Candy. Her work is meticulous. Have ordered an Impulse Sealer to illimnate the ironing by hand part. These ‘pouches’ can hold a little water for rinsing out liners if necessary. Can’t wait for our new piece of equipment to arrive.

17.01.2022 Yesterday, we tried out our new piece of equipment. This Heat Sealer will make short work of Step two in the construction of the Transport Bags, sealing the edges nice and tight in just a jiffy. Did it work? You bet. Not a drop of water leaked through. These neat little moisture proof pouches will act as carriers for soiled liners, or can even be use as miniature water bags for rinsing out liners. All in the cause of reducing the use of single use plastic bags. Very innovative. Thank you to Penny Hooper of Perth Chapter for guiding us through the purchase and use of the Sealer.

17.01.2022 Welcome to Sue Edmonds and Eileen Day from Manjmup - our new solo sewists.

16.01.2022 Results of our efforts last week. Completed and part finished Transport Bags using our new heat sealer. Well done ladies.

16.01.2022 Another delivery to Perth Chapter last month.

15.01.2022 Thanks to volunteer Sue Gregg for this batch of liners. Always does beautiful work.

13.01.2022 Today I delivered 132 Heavy Flow Shields to Penny at Perth Chapter destined for Burma Children’s Medical Fund in Myanmar. A huge order of 2,000 kits made up of 1500 Regular and 500 HF Kits. Thank you to our solo sewists for the beautiful work.

12.01.2022 100 Transport Bags, lovingly made by the Quinninup Sewing group. Beautiful work. We love all our DfG subgroups. Thank you Jill for this delivery.

11.01.2022 Welcome to Rebecca who has joined us today as an associate volunteer. Her visit from Bunbury coincided with Brian’s and he was on hand to problem solve a ‘stitch fit’ with her machine. Fantastic! We have begun prepping, cutting and sewing heavy flow liners which is our focus along side Transport Bags this year.

11.01.2022 Solo work in the DfG Centre in the Old Terminus Building. Janet Blake from Australind dropping off finished work and collecting another batch of liners and shields to sew up. Periods don’t pause for pandemics.

11.01.2022 Last month's photos from Ek Phnom DfG Enterprise. Fond memories of our time there in February 2019.

10.01.2022 Mark Balla, an Australian, an Author and Rotarian and Toilet Warrior, recently started a Podcast called The Smallest Room. Celeste Mergens was one of the first people he interviewed. The purpose of his podcast is to chat with 'change makers' and help promote their cause. We all know that Celeste is an amazing change maker and an inspiration. If you enjoy this podcast please share it. Also, Mark has some amazing people coming up so make sure you subscribe to his podcast. Celeste Mergens, founder of Days for Girls, joins Mark Balla in The Smallest Room

09.01.2022 A big thank you to the Henderson-Mott family for another generous donation of underwear for our Supreme Kits. Love the colours!

08.01.2022 To all our VOLUNTEERS & DONORS You are invited to a Thank You Morning Tea for your extra ordinary efforts this year despite the challenges of COVID-19. DATE: Monday 14th December... WHERE: Bridgetown Family & Community Centre Corner of Steere & Roe Streets TIME: 10.30am RSVP: By Monday 7th December to [email protected] To all our Volunteers and Donors. It has been an eventful year with all things CoVID-19. Understandably, we've not held any big event DfG-wise, other than the usual at leisure prep & sewing activities once isolation restrictions were lifted. Still, we want to say Thank you for your contributions this year. The BFCC has offered to provide their facilities and host a Morning Tea for us. I hope you, your group or representatives of your group can come. Although a busy time of the year in the lead up to Christmas, I hope we are early enough for you to fix this in your calendars. We hope you can come.

06.01.2022 Hi from Jenny at Days for Girls Esperance, Western Australia. We started a team in Esperance after going with a Rotary group to Cambodia. Four ladies, from our group of 70, taught some sewing ladies at Sustainable Cambodia how to make the DfG kits for their school girls. Every night they would give us an update of what they were achieving. Some of our ladies wanted to begin a group in Esperance and with the help of Brenda Dawes, from Bridgetown Chapter, who came to start us off, and money from the Esperance Bay Rotary Club, we began. We have a group of ladies who sew together each week, others who sew from home, and also ladies at Teen Challenge, a drug rehab, just out of Esperance, who we go and sew with once a week. We all feel so privileged to be helping other ladies in this amazing outreach.

05.01.2022 . ORANGE is DfG signature colour. One of our DfG members in NSW googled what the colour Orange means and it really says it all. Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine and the tropics.... This is what is embedded in our vision. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, attraction, success, encouragement and stimulation. She believes this is the road we walk in our journey with Days for Girls. I heartedly agree.

05.01.2022 Huge thanks to Ross for donating his time to test and tag all our machines and other electric equipment. So appreciative of his support.

04.01.2022 Days for Girls International is thrilled to announce that we are a two-time winner at this year’s .ORG Impact Awards! It is an honor and privilege to accept the award for both Combatting Coronavirus and .ORG Of The Year categories. Our team has worked tirelessly to support women, girls and communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and we’re beyond grateful to be recognized for our efforts. https://youtu.be/sfDNnIEEYIk watch this inspiring video spotlight from the folks at Public Interest Registry.

02.01.2022 Heartiest welcome to Kathryn who has joined our band of volunteers.

02.01.2022 Today our centre had a visit from dynamic Margaret River Team leader, Kerry Watson. Her team of eight volunteers are getting ready for their first packing day for 2020. Well done ladies. Hope it won’t be too long before our groups are able to get together.

02.01.2022 He's, a hero to us. Our dedicated machine technician, Brian, who volunteers his time to ensure our machines are kept in good working order. Recently, he also stabilised our 'outside' work table which was a bit wobbly. Thank you Brian.

02.01.2022 Our satellite group from Quinninup, joined us in Bridgetown this week. It was great to catch up and stock them with fabrics for the next three months. A happy bunch indeed.

01.01.2022 We have still been active during Covid19 restrictions with various volunteers doing solo work. I put together 108 POD Packs (2 packs per one Transport Bag) for the 54 Vanuatu and Tongan ladies working on orchards around Pemberton. Jenny came and collected and did a crash course in menstrual health hygiene to instruct the ladies as part of the distribution. They were so happy to receive their packs that in their excitement they forgot about social distancing for a group photo!! They have been in WA since November and due to return to their homes in April... but now they’re stuck here with very little work. They were so grateful for these packs. Thank you Jenny for being the go between.
