19.01.2022 We have faced some tough weeks together in 2020 but we start this week with renewed strength and a sense of the wider community we are apart of. It was a privil...ege to stand with the Cobargo community again as their renewal takes shape and gathers momentum - local leadership in action. A number of projects anchored the weekend; wisdom and warmth that will keep giving for the long journey that remains. More than 4,000 pot plants grown by Canberra locals were delivered and donated to Cobargo. The 'Out Of The Fires' project was coordinated by Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek, Brindabella Rotaract Club of Canberra and the Rotary Club of Bega. These pots of green will help reshape people and places. Those involved in the ACT come with experience having worked to regenerate burnt gardens in Weston Creek following the 2003 Canberra bushfires. Around this generosity, people and families gathered for a day of fun and community spirit, and an update on the 'build back better' projects being shaped by groups like Cobargo Green Recovery Inc., Cobargo Community Catch-up, Cobargo Quamaa Business Recovery Group, Cobargo Bushfire Relief Centre, Quaama Bushfire Relief Community Notice Board, Triangle Tool Library, Cobargo Wellness Group, Cobargo Community Garden, Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund, The Cobargo Creators Centre, Bega Valley Shire Council, Cobargo Bushfire Resilience Centre Inc., - have I missed anyone? Thank you to all who made this happen. As we approach the first anniversary there are still many challenges but we face them together - stronger because of what has already been achieved. Additional photos below from Rotary Club of Bega and Geoffrey Grigg.

16.01.2022 I am so proud to be a part of my strong, supportive, resilient community with our big hearts and spirit. We’ll keep walking beside each other as we recover together

13.01.2022 The NSW Govt has at last opened up the bushfire recovery funding and the project teams are hard at work preparing submissions for lodgement on 11 Dec. The meeti...ngs next Thursday 12 November are an opportunity to come and view the projects, talk to the project teams and see how the projects are integrated into a recovery and resilience strategy for Cobargo. There’s been a lot of work put into developing the concepts. There is more to be done - and this is an opportunity to come along and have your say. .

12.01.2022 This is worth simply wonderful. A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?' The answers they g...ot were broader, deeper, and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined! 'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore... So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' Rebecca - age 8 'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4 'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.' Karl - age 5 'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.' Chrissy - age 6 'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.' Terri - age 4 'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 8 'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.' Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) 'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.' Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) 'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.' Noelle - age 7 'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6 'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.' Cindy - age 8 'My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.' Clare - age 6 'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.' Elaine - age 5 'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.' Chris - age 7 'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.' Mary Ann - age 4 'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.' Lauren - age 4 'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image!) Karen - age 7 'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross...' Mark - age 6 'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.' Jessica - age 8 And the final one: The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry.' Now, take 60 seconds and post this for others to see. And then be a child again today! <3

10.01.2022 An awesome wedding venue

09.01.2022 The Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Committee met on 15 October. The Committee appointed two new members: Carolyn Cole (Yowrie) and Inna Skyrpay (Cobargo) a...nd approved four new projects: Quaama Tennis Club: Quaama Tennis court enhancement $5000 Quaama Tennis Club aims to upgrade the existing tennis courts as a multipurpose sporting space for young and old, including a BBQ area with shelter and additional seating. Funding is contingent on the club raising the totality of the monies required to deliver the project. Stonewave Taiko: Holding the Rhythm $7867 The project will enable purchase of a collection of Taiko drums and provide for their storage to allow the further development and expansion of Taiko drumming teaching in Cobargo. Stonewave's Cobargo drumming class began at the School of Arts in 2018 and has built a group of dedicated players, many new to making music but enthused by the challenge and joy of playing together. Disruptions to the program from the fires and COVID19 have left this group hungry to return. Stonewave is committed to resourcing the class and has started back with COVID safe practices in October. This project will make the classes sustainable and expand taiko drumming within Cobargo and surrounds. The Cobargo Community Library. $3000 This project is a community lending library. The aim of the library is to build local resiliency by providing literature and audio that supports individuals and groups to achieve emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health and wellness. This grant supports the ongoing work to address trauma and other mental and emotional impacts of the fires that continue to affect many members of our community. Back to Country: Healing the Country of Cobargo to Heal People $15,000 This project is about healing the trauma from the drought, fire, flood and Covid that has had a massive impact on Yuin Country. This project will provide an opportunity for people to heal with the land, having a belonging and a responsibility for something other than ourselves, and knowing that if we take care of Country we are taking care of ourselves as a community. The project includes 18 workshops exploring six themes that focus on the importance of observing nature to inform how to take care of Country and heal ourselves as part of Country, plus ceremony and dance. The project will be led by Yuin Elders, Uncle Max Harrison, Aunty Shirley, Uncle Bruce Pascoe, with Back to Country and members of the Yuin Community. The Committee farewelled Greg Holland and thanked him for his contribution to the establishment of the fund and his commitment through these first months of operation. Greg's counsel is greatly appreciated by the team and he will remain as an advisor to the fund committee. Photo shows the new bike track in use at Quaama School - one of the first projects to be funded by the community fund. Thanks to all who have contributed.
