18.01.2022 I’M GOING TO BE A VOICE Who stands with me? With the death of four fighters in 2019, two of which sustained brain bleeds or kidney failure due to severe dehyd...ration, we need to change the way fighters cut weight. Dadashrv Brain bleed Santillian- kidney failure that lead to heart failure YOU CAN NOT FORCE HYDRATION INTO YOUR BODY JUST LIKE YOU CAN NOT FORCE WATER INTO A SPONGE. I’ll keep saying this until every fighter I come into contact with understands. For many of you that don’t know I was a neuro trauma rep for 8 years prior to getting into the boxing business. I am educated in the neurosciences and I trained neuro and orthopedic surgeons how to perform new procedures in neuro, spine and orthopedic surgeries. So what I’m about to say is based on SCIENCE not OPINION. There needs to be a MANDATORY education of fighters and trainers on the negative effects of cutting weight and dehydration. HERE IS WHY: Here is an analogy for you to explain why it’s easy to DEHYDRATE your body but not easy REHYDRATE: It’s easy to QUICKLY force / squeeze water OUT of a sponge but when filling that sponge with the same amount you just squeezed out of it, the sponge will only soak it up at it’s own pace. YOU CAN NOT FORCE HYDRATION INTO YOUR BODY JUST LIKE YOU CANNOT FORCE WATER INTO A SPONGE! Our bodies are made up of 60% water. Water is what gives your brain protection /cushion when you take hits to the head. When you’re not fully hydrated you have no cushion to protect your brain from slamming against the side of your skull. Other reasons dehydration is dangerous and hurts performance of fighters; Increased risk of concussion -Increased risk of brain bleeds -Reduced pain tolerance Lower cognitive efficiency. Meaning you can’t think as clear or as quick as when you’re hydrated Kidney failure and fatigue ( those kidney shots will do irreversible damage and hurt a lot more). How many former fighters do you know with kidney failure? I bet quit a few. FACT- It is not usually one hit that causes severe concussions that effect the lifetime of your brain, it is an accumulation of punches that cause minor unnoticeable concussions then when you don’t allow yourself to heal in between and get hit again, it causes major concussions that you may never recover from. SPARRING SAFETY IS A MUST Be smart and educate yourself We have to speak up and establish regulations to educate fighters and trainers on the dangers of undergoing such severe dehydration immediately prior to their fight.

14.01.2022 'I remember the last battle I really had in school: I was about 12 or 13 and had just started boxing at the time. This kid was two classes above me and we were ...down in the handball alley when something happened and he said, 'Me and you in the back garden.' I thought, Christ, I was worrying about it all afternoon. But I could not back down because I would have lost face. We went out back after school, squared up, and I banged him three or four times, until he hit the deck. That was the last battle I ever had at school: once I started boxing, I never, ever used my fists outside of the ring.' - Barry McGuigan

08.01.2022 'The sport turned me into a different person, afraid of no one. One day, a bully, probably about six feet two, threw me against a locker at Parkdale High. I was... almost knocked out cold. The old me would have searched for any peaceful way to end the mismatch. The new me fired a succession of left hooks, missing wildly. The bully began to laugh, yet each hook began coming closer and closer, until one put his butt on the ground. The guys who had surrounded us, expecting to see me get whipped, were speechless. For the rest of the afternoon, I walked around school as 'the man,' everyone spreading the word: 'Did you hear what Ray did?' I looked down at my fists, seeing them in a whole different light. I realised they could operate outside the ring as well as they did inside. As for the bully, he never bothered me again.' - Sugar Ray Leonard

05.01.2022 As the dust settles on another epic Ace Boxing Promotions double header at the Eatons Hill Hotel on Saturday night, we'd like to show our appreciation to all th...ose who made Ring Rivals an enormous success. Firstly, Frosty and Waylon put on another absolute classic to close out the night. Both men displayed unbelievable skill, tenacity and sportsmanship in a fight of the year contender. Trilogy anyone? Huge thanks to all the Fighters and their teams. We had 16 bouts in total and each and every fighter showcased their skill, heart and competitive spirit. Thanks to John Hogg and the ANBF Referees and Judges. Without you, there is no professional boxing and we respect and appreciate your support for all our events. Also a massive thanks to Dr James for keeping the fighters safe and always looking out for their interests. Thanks to Paul, PJ, David and the entire team at the Eatons Hill Hotel. The showroom looked amazing and the service from the team was excellent as always. Truly appreciate the effort that goes into running a successful event. Our MC extraordinaire James O'Shea, simply the best in the business. Thanks again for your professionalism and personality in the ring. Our Commentary Team, including the one and only Andy Raymond, the #1 expert commentator in the country in Nathan Di Carlo, the new addition Drury, and the legend Adam Lovelock. Foxsports wishes they had a team this good. A big round of applause for our spectacular Ring Girls Ariana, Ayla & Summer who add some class and elegance in the ring. Our media team, led by Lachie, Amy & James from Combat Analytics, Brian Kirwin from Red Corner and Adam from EpiCentreTv. The way you showcase our product makes us proud. Thanks also to Dyke and the High Noon Productions team who blast out the music and lights and create our special atmosphere.
