21.01.2022 What an image, what a story This is the incredible @meghankoziel who has had one hell of a ride....and so it continues! There are many young women in our community who have similar stories to her and we just want you to know you are not alone. Our community wish Meghan and her family all our love at this exciting yet interesting time. Repost from @meghankoziel... 2020 has been one heck of a year! We are living a life of so many unknowns, but one thing we have no doubt is how much love we have for this little miracle #2. Being a breast cancer survivor, pregnant, and having residual medical issues after undergoing so many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation... makes this an incredibly scary timenot only for me, my family, but our baby to be as well! . Corona pregnancies are different, unimaginable actually, filled with questions, anxiety, and uncertainty simply because of everything that is going on in the world. There are new rules, new guidelines, the obvious masks, Ive gone to every doctor appointment by myself, Ive felt alone, scared, and telemedicine is the norm. . We have no idea what to expect in the next couple of weeks heading into delivery... and it is absolutely terrifying. But as always I try to focus on the positive out of the worst situations. . So today we are embracing the beauty of the bump. The excitement of seeing kendra become a big sister, and most importantly the quarentine time that weve been able to spend as a family these past couple of months and intend to uphold with the next few to come. . #coronababy #quarentinepregnancy #baby #mask #coronavirus #coronapregnancy #ronababy #coronababies #coronababyphotographer #mastectomy #breastcancer #babypostcancer #covidbaby #covidpregnancy #36weekspregnant : @jillfranz

21.01.2022 And let the process begins for my final cancer prevention surgery. I have been waiting a very long time and am ready for this to finally happen. Full hysterectomy, ovary and tube removal, and throw in a hernia from previous surgery As my cancers are fueled by estrogen this is an important operation and the last in a long journey starting back in 2001. ... I know it wont be easy and I thank those who have come before me, for providing fantastic and practical advise for this one. I like to be informed an ready for anything, good, bad, ugly. And yes Ill be documenting for those who would like to follow. It is strange to think I am packing my very own Defining Beauty Care Pack for this trip to hospital. It was during my double mastectomy high on endone 3 years ago where Defining Beauty Through Breast Cancer was born.... I wonder what Ill come up with this time I go in Thursday, dropped at the door in Melbourne by my rock, Doug, say a sad goodbye Im sure, then off I go Time for the rest of the girlie bits to go.... and hopefully never have to worry about the big C again

17.01.2022 This week one of our committee members and breast cancer survivors Kylie had a scare and required needle biopsys in both breasts. To say it was a shock was an understatement. Going in for her regular check up and 3 1/2 hours later, the picture says it all!!! This brings home to us more than ever the importance of bring breast aware. For Many breast cancer patients the journey never ends. It is continual check ups, blood tests, scans and biopsys just to be on the safe side.... We all under this and deal with it, however it doesnt make it any easier and any less stressful when going through it. We know many woman in our community are going through these exact yearly tests etc and please know we get it. 17.01.2022 Today I want to touch on the lasting effects a cancer diagnosis can have and dealing with it in a COVID world. Firstly after Chemo, radiation and other drugs that are pumped into us to prevent cancer returning, tends to leave ever lasting effects on many of us. Today was just another example of that. Two teeth pulled due to how brittle my teeth have become and bones losing strength after years of cancer treatments!!! (Yes now Im a true Collingwood supporter )... Secondly I found out today its time to get my girly bits downstairs removed. Full hysterectomy with ovaries removed and hernia removal due to previous mastectomy surgery. As I am now a category one case due to it being cancer preventative and I can no longer take Tamoxifen or have Zoladex injection due to side effects and my estrogen levels being elevated, so Im in ASAP. I now must get a letter to get through check points to get to and from a Melbourne, most likely have a Covid test before admitted and before I leave hospital. I will be admitted for 4 days with no visitors. Now Im not complaining as there are many people in much worse circumstances than myself, I am just stating the facts for us here in Victoria and having to navigate the system. It has been a process to coordinate and organise, even getting teeth done. I realise for some it all becomes too much so they dont follow up on these important appointments, but I want to reach out and say, make phone calls, ask questions, make it happen even if it seems impossible during this time. Your life is important and you need to take control especially in this Covid crisis. Sending love and good vibes to all the Brave Beauties who get it. 14.01.2022 Introducing another Brave Beauty @erinannpayne Thank you for sharing your story Hi, my name is Erin, Im 32 years old, married to the love of my life and have a gorgeous 10 month old son Brodie. On the 5th January 2020 I felt a hard lump in my left breast after feeding my 3 month old son. My GP was concerned & sent me off for an ultrasound, I knew it wasnt looking great from the sonographers face & how long it took. The next morning I got a call to come straight in and I w...as diagnosed with stage 3, grade 3 triple negative breast cancer. I couldnt believe I had cancer after just having a baby! I wanted to have another baby & didnt want to lose my hair, I was scared. I had 2 tumours and was sent off to have the Brca gene test which was negative. I went to a fertility clinic to talk about freezing my eggs as I wanted to ensure we did everything possible to give my little man a sibling when I got through this. I was only lucky enough to get 2 healthy eggs. Chemotherapy started with 4 rounds of AC, along with steroids, anti nausea & reflux medication. I also had injections monthly to put me into medical menopause & another injection after each round to protect my bones. I lost my hair after 10 days so I shaved it off and not let the cancer beat me to it. It was scary and liberating at the same time. I was constantly nauseous and exhausted, I really struggled but luckily I had my amazing husband and mum helping me & Brodie out 24/7! Then I started paclitaxol for 12 rounds, however I only made it to 10 due to severe bone pain. I was such a mess when I finally finishing my treatments, both emotionally & physically. I had put on so much weight from the steroids and on top of the baby weight I had gained I didnt feel myself. I decided after much discussion with my team to have a double mastectomy with expanders and nipple sparing surgery. This was difficult but gave me the best chance of my cancer never returning and being here for my husband and baby boy. 5 days in hospital, 6 week recovery, but I am now cancer free!!! And all this during Covid-19!!! I just want to woman to be breast aware and get checked, it could save your life. #bravebeauties

13.01.2022 Let's talk about grief. Grief and loss are a part of the human experience. If not able to be recognised or expressed, can become a mental health issue. Griefline is a preventative mental health service, supporting members of the community to manage grief and loss with support tools and coping strategies. Having a mastectomy can have a massive impact on a woman's body image. The loss of breasts can cause deep grief and there needs to be a place in a woman's journey to grieve ...and mourn for that loss. Most people find the most effective way of working with feelings and thoughts of loss and associated grief are to share their experiences with someone. GriefLine's skilled, empathetic and trained volunteer counsellors can walk alongside you with your experience of grief or loss. Griefline has a team of almost 100 volunteer telephone counsellors who work 365 days a year to receive calls from help-seekers all over Australia. Call 1300 845 745

13.01.2022 Do you ever get sick any tired of hearing.... Wow youre so strong Youre amazing I dont know how you do it? Youre an inspiration... The list goes on and on. We understand that loved ones say this with the best of intentions, however at times we really dont feel like we deserve such accolades. No cancer patient ever asked to be tested in this way, to face their own mortality and undergo life changing treatments. Yes we are proud of how we have faced these challenges, but we had no choice! #breastcancercare #breastcancerfighter #strongwomen

13.01.2022 Meet our Brave Beauty Brittany, a wife, mother and young woman who shares her story with our community this month. We thank you @britt.fights.cancer and send you love and good vibes always I was diagnosed at age 32 with triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma 11/15/19, stage IIA. I have no gene mutations. I found my own lump and brought it up to my gyno at my regular appointment a couple weeks later. From there I had a mammogram, ultrasound, and core needle biopsy wh...ich ultimately confirmed our worst fear. Between the time of my diagnosis and starting chemo therapy I completed a round of IVF and egg retrieval to preserve my fertility while going through treatment. We were fortunate and blessed to retrieve 11 eggs. Since then I have completed 4 AC treatments and 12 taxo treatments. I have 11 more taxol treatments along with a bilateral mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction. Next up is six rounds of Xeloda as I still had active cancer cells at the time of my final pathology after surgery. Having been diagnosed with cancer has definitely changed life for me. I understand the fear of a cancer diagnosis and living with the shadow of "what if it comes back". Also living with a diagnosis during Covid-19 has been extremely difficult, navigating appointments, treatments and health. I want to share my story and encourage as many women as possible who are newly diagnosed or thriving after cancer that it's abdolutely possible to live your best life, even after cancer. 12.01.2022 What not to say to a cancer patient!!! Thank you to the beautiful Margot for being so raw and honest about how peoples comments can affect us. We know this is said with the best of intentions most of the time, however we need our doctors, professionals and support networks to know the true impact of their words and how detrimental and upsetting they can be.... We put on a brave face most of the time as its our coping mechanism. But one comment can be soul destroying to us who are already vulnerable. Think before you speak, be mindful and kind always

04.01.2022 Defining Beauty through Breast Cancer are huge supporters of @bcnapinklady for many reasons. They continually fight for us all in many important issues that affect our community, many of which you may be unaware of. We no longer have to spend a fortune on many medications that improve our life and cancer diagnosis. This is just another example of what they do for us. T...hank you for all you do for us we are forever grateful Repost from @bcnapinklady For many years BCNA has been calling for fulvestrant (Faslodex) to be made available at an affordable price to ensure women and men living with metastatic breast cancer can access the best treatment available. Today we are pleased to advise that we are one step closer with the drug used for treatment of hormone receptor positive metastatic breast cancer recommended for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). 04.01.2022 CHEMO TIP - Using Eyeliner will help define the lash line for those woman wanting to create an illusion of lashes that may have been thinned or lost during treatments. Start by rolling your eyeliner on the back of your hand to warm and soften it before applying to the delicate eye area. Next draw a line with short soft strokes on the upper lid, and then work slowly from the centre of the eye on the bottom lid. If your hands are shaky from treatment and putting eyeliner on i...s a bit much, try to draw dots on the lash line and then blend with a cotton bud to produce the desired effect. This can then be accompanied by false lashes or simply worn by itself to help shape and define the eye area that can felt so bare and confronting for many women during chemotherapy #chemotherapymakeup #chemowarrior #chemohairgrowth #breastcancercare #betruetoyourself #tipsandtricks

03.01.2022 Hair loss is one of the most difficult parts of a womans breast cancer journey, just ask her. It is a huge part of a womans identity and how we see ourselves. We are forced to look at a somewhat unrecognisable reflection staring back in the mirror. We are stripped bare revealing our true selves for the world to see. Yes this is hard, confronting and heartbreak. However it can also become empowering, uplifting and heartwarming for many women throughout their diagnosis.... We salute all the incredible women who have walked this same path, lived with the loss of so much, and rocked the bald, bad and beautiful #truebeauty #bald #breastcancerjourney #stongertogether

We have two events ready to go when this little thing called COVID-19 gives us a break In the meantime we are still sending out our beautiful care packs to our Brave Beauties recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and providing them with relevant information to help guide them through this difficult time. We have also been able to connect young women who are... going through similar situations, and truly make a difference in their cancer diagnosis and know they arent alone. Thank you to our ever growing community and for still supporting us in what ever way you can at a difficult time for everyone #backtogetheragain #reminiscing #supportingeachother #strengthinnumbers #definingbeautythroughbreastcancer #bravebeauties
