25.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. Appropriate Response Psalm 47:1, 56... Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets. Sing praises to God; sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. That’s the Bible’s picture of the response that’s appropriate to God in His power and in His glory. The one specific word that sums up that which God’s greatness, grandeur should provoke from you and me is the word praise, but a very all-inclusive kind of praise, a praise that occupies every part of our physical body, a praise that occupies all our faculties. Clap your hands all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. That’s something more than just religious respectability. That’s a total response of our redeemed being to the Lord in His greatness. Clap our hands; shout to God. Then it says, God has ascended amid shouts of joy, amid the sounding of trumpets. Shouts and clapping of hands and musical instruments are all required to sound forth the praise of God. And then it goes on, Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. You know, it’s a theme, Sing praises, sing praises, sing praises. That’s how we have to respond to God.

25.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. The Secret Hidden Wisdom Psalm 51:6... Surely You desire truth in the inner parts; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Those words are addressed by the psalmist David to the Lord Himself. What is it that God really looks for in our lives? First and foremost, it is not the external practices of religion not necessarily churchgoing or other religious acts. God looks much deeper than those. He looks right down into the innermost depths of our hearts and our lives. Elsewhere, the Bible tells us that God does not see as man sees because man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. So David says, Surely you desire truth in the inner parts. What does God want? What is truth in the inner parts? I believe it is absolute sincerity the opposite of religious externalism, hypocrisy. Those things do not appeal to God. In fact, He does not approve of them. He detests them. He looks beneath all that. He wants to see if we are sincere, open, and transparent in our relationship with Him. Do we say the same thing with our mouths that we are thinking in our minds? If we come to that place, then we can say, like the psalmist, You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. There is a secret place in our innermost being where we can begin to hear the voice of God and learn from Him and He teaches us wisdom there.

22.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. The Beauty of Righteousness Psalm 45:78... You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. Those words are addressed prophetically by the psalmist to the Lord Jesus. They are a picture of Jesus His character, His attitude and the reason why the Lord exalted Jesus. It’s important for us to understand that Jesus was not treated as a favored Son. He was not given promotion that He had not earned, but He earned His promotion and the reason given here is His attitude in moral matters. The psalmist says, You love righteousness and hate wickedness, therefore God has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. It was the attitude of Jesus in the matters of righteousness and wickedness that caused God to promote Him. Notice that there’s no neutrality in these matters. If we love righteousness, we will hate wickedness. We cannot compromise with it. And notice also the beauty that goes with righteousness: the fragrance of myrrh and aloes and cassia and the melody of strings from a place of ivory palaces. What a beautiful picture that is of righteousness and how righteousness causes God to exalt those who practice it.

19.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. A Time of Rejoicing Psalm 126:1... When the LORD brought back the captive ones of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, The LORD has done great things for them. NASB The Lord has done great things for us, we are glad. Those words are being fulfilled in this generation. Today after nineteen centuries of weary exile, the Lord is bringing back the restored people of Israel, His scattered Jewish people from every corner of the earth, just as He predicted through the mouths of all His prophets that He would. And there’s going to be great joy and rejoicing. At the present time, though the restoration has begun, its fullness has not yet been demonstrated and there is something very significant there in those words. It says in the second verse that I read, They said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.’ Then in the third verse Israel themselves awaken to the greatness of what the Lord had done and they say, The LORD has done great things for us, we are glad. It’s so significant and characteristic of the accuracy of Scripture that today it’s the Bible-believing Christians who see the greatness of what God is doing for Israel. They are saying among the nations, the other nations, The LORD has done great things for them, and yet just at this time it seems that the Jewish people are awakening to the fact that the Lord is doing great things for them. So we see that Scripture, the promise of the restoration of the captives of Zion, taking place in our day.

19.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. The Watershed of History Psalm 129:12, 56... Many times they have persecuted me from my youth up. Let Israel now say, Many times they have persecuted me from my youth up, yet they have not prevailed against me. May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward, let them be like grass on the housetops, which withers before it grows up. NASB There’s a very important principle contained in those verses. God identifies Himself with His people, even when His people are weak and persecuted. God does not turn away from them. And the way that we treat His people is reckoned by God as the way that we treat Him. We cannot oppose Zion; we cannot oppose God’s people and God’s purposes in this earth and have the blessing of God. The Scripture says there, May all who hate Zion be like grass upon the housetops which withers before it grows up. The prosperity of those who oppose God’s purposes and God’s people is very short lived. They may begin to sprout like the grass, but it’s the grass on the housetops which really has no soil to grow in and as soon as the sun rises, it withers and they are left there like a relic of something that could have been great but has failed to achieve greatness. The key to greatness, both individual and national, is to identify with God’s purposes and God’s people, and that means the people that God is restoring and bringing back to their land, to their city, the people of Israel and the church of Jesus Christ. That’s where God’s heart is, and as we identify with that we are blessed of God.

18.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. A Place for the Lord Psalm 132:35, 8... I will not enter my house or go to my bed I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob. Arise, O LORD, and come to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. Those words were spoken by David. He’d become conscious of the need to bring back to Jerusalem the ark of the Lord, which had been taken by the Philistines. But he’d come to realize also that he had to prepare a place, find and prepare a place, before he could invite the Lord to take up His resting place in the midst of His people. And there’s an important principle there, we need to prepare a place for the Lord before we ask Him to take up His residence with us. There are two great hindrances, I believe, to the Lord dwelling with us. Each of them in English begins with the letter p. The first is pride, the second is prejudice. As long as we’re arrogant and haughty, we do not have a place for the Lord. As long as we’re occupied with our own ways, our own thoughts, our own concepts, we’re determined to make God act the way we think He ought to act. Those two barriers of pride and prejudice can keep the Lord from finding a resting place in our hearts and lives. So let’s remember that before we invite the Lord to make His resting place, to come with the ark of His might and bring the fullness of His presence and His blessing, we have to be sure that we’ve prepared an appropriate place for God to rest in.

13.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. The Rudder of the Body James 3:45... Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body. Do you get the comparison? What the rudder is to the ship, the tongue is to the human body and the human life. You don’t have to be a nautical expert to know that the man in charge of the rudder directs the course of the ship. If the right man is in charge of the rudder, the ship will make a safe journey and arrive safely in harbor. But if the wrong man is in charge of the rudder and doesn’t know what he is doing, the ship is likely to be wrecked. And that’s how it is in your life and in mine. If the right force is in control of our tongues we’ll make a successful journey through life and arrive at our destination safely. But if the wrong force is in control of our tongues, we are likely to make shipwreck. So remember, the way you use your tongue is going to determine the course of your life. Make it a principle to be positive: to express faith and confidence, not doubt and fear; to be honest and not to exaggerate; to speak the truth and to speak about other people as you would have other people speak about you. Because words are also seeds. If you sow bitter, critical words you will reap them back in due course multiplied in your own life. So remember, be careful how you use that rudder that directs your ship, the rudder that’s your tongue. Ask God for His help to use your tongue aright.

11.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. Two Kingdoms in Contrast Psalm 125:3... The scepter of wickedness will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous. NIV, NASB Did you realize that wickedness wields a scepter? Yes, it’s true; there is authority in the kingdom of Satan. The Scripture tells us in Colossians 1:1213 that we have been delivered from the authority of the dominion of darkness and translated into the kingdom of the Son of God’s love. There are the two kingdoms set in stark contrast. The kingdom of the authority of darkness and the kingdom of the Son of God’s love, which is a kingdom of light and of love. Each kingdom has authority, but the authority of the kingdom of God is superior to all other authority in the universe. God’s kingdom, the Scripture says, ruleth over all, it is established forever, it is unshakable. And when we are part of God’s kingdom, then God permits us, on His behalf, to wield the scepter of righteousness, the scepter which has upon it the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And as we wield that scepter, we beat back and cast down the scepter of wickedness, breaking down the scepter of wickedness, destroying the dominion of Satan. We move back into the area which God has allotted to us. So there is a promise for God’s people to regain their inheritance in Christ. The scepter of wickedness shall not remain over the land allotted to the righteous. For you and me, there is a land allotted to us through our righteousness in Christ. We need to take that scepter boldly and beat down the scepter of wickedness and enter into our allotted inheritance.

06.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. A Rushing Torrent Psalm 126:4... Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the streams in the Negev. There’s a prayer from God’s people for restoration. The picture there is very vivid, if you’re familiar with the Negev. The word that’s translated streams in Arabic is a wadi. A wadi is something special that’s found mainly in the Middle East. It’s a riverbed, which is dry most of the year. You can see that water has flowed in it, but when rain has not fallen within a few days it dries up and you just have the evidence that water once flowed in it. And so God’s people there in that prayer view themselves like one of those dry riverbeds in the Negev, the desert of the south of Israel. But their prayer is that God will restore them like the streams in the Negev. Such a vivid picture, because at certain seasons when there’s rainfall in the Negev it comes copiously, abundantly, and in a few hours what was a dry riverbed is transformed into an overflowing, torrential stream that sweeps everything before it, sometimes washing away bridges, even causing serious accidents, washing cars away so that where just a few hours previously there was nothing but dust and dryness, there’s a rushing torrent. And their inspired prayer is that God would restore His people like that stream in the Negev that though we’ve been dry and dusty without much evidence of water, suddenly God is going to visit us and send such a visitation of His Spirit that it will be like a rushing torrent that will sweep all obstacles before it.

04.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. The Gift of Sleep Psalm 127:12... Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to retire late, to eat the bread of painful labors; for He gives to His beloved even in his sleep. NASB That pictures the only way to true security and success. It’s relying on the Lord’s oversight, the Lord’s blessing, the Lord’s provision. We can work hard, we can build, we can stay awake, we can lose sleep and be so busy with all that we are seeking to accomplish and put all our effort into it, but without the Lord’s blessing it will come to nothing. There is no security outside of God, His blessing and His provision. But if we are laboring in the blessing and the provision, in the will, of the Lord then there’s that sweet and beautiful promise, He gives to His beloved even in his sleep. When you’ve done what God requires you to do, you can lie down and sleep, you can relax. You don’t have to stay awake and worry, because God gives even while you’re asleep. The results of your labors will be apportioned to you. You see, ultimately we don’t depend on our own effort, we depend on God’s faithfulness, and God’s faithfulness is committed to reward that which we do in His will. If we build in the will of God, the house will stand. If we watch in the will of God, the city will be secure. Security is found only in God.

01.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. Take God into Account James 4:1314... Now listen, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Don’t you know many people that talk like that? They plan so confidently for this year, next year, where they’ll do business, where they will invest their money, where they will take their vacation, how long they will spend here and there. And many times they are planning for many years ahead for their retirement and where they’ll spend their retirement. But they have left out of account the fact that they don’t control that. This word says you are just a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. How foolish for a mist to make plans like that! What’s the solution? It goes on: Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ A mist does not have control of where it goes. If the sun arises, it will just be dissipated. If the wind blows, it will be carried away. You see, you are totally dependent on God for every breath you breathe, for every step you take. Don’t plan without God in your life. Don’t be so foolish. Just humble yourself for a moment and recognize that’s what you are. You’re just a mist, hanging for few brief moments in the vapor, and then you’re gong to be dissipated and carried away. Take God into account. Make your plans with God in mind, and God will see to it that your plans stand and prosper.

01.01.2022 Devotional by Derek Prince. Abide Forever 1 John 2:17... And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever. NASB We are living in a very impermanent and changeable world. Nothing that we see is going to last permanently. The ambitions, the desires, the passions of people of this world who are immersed in time and the things of the flesh are all going to pass away. There are forces at work in the world spiritual and material forces much more powerful than we are, forces that we cannot control. We are just like a little speck on the surface of a river being carried along. Is there any way to find permanence? Is there any way to find security? Yes, it’s simple. Those words contain the answer: But the one who does the will of God abides forever. In the last resort, God’s will is going to stand. When everything else collapses and falls away and becomes impermanent and insecure, disappoints us, and maybe even deceives us, there’s one thing that’s going to stand secure, that’s God’s will. God is in control; He’s supreme. And if you unite yourself with the will of God, if you make it your purpose in life to do the will of God, then you are just as strong and just as permanent and just as secure as God’s will. Circumstances will change, the world will change, but the will of God stands firm, enduring and unconquerable and you can be just like the will of God if you set your mind to do it.
