I feel so privileged to be the Sports Dietitian helping the up-and-coming local athletes increase their training gains and better their performance with nutrition. And the best thing is the athletes learn nutrition skills and knowledge for life , not just for their time as athletes

02.01.2022 EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL So I've done many cheese and wine tastings before, but never an extra-virgin olive oil tasting...until this week! And all done virtually! A fascinating experience beyond what I imagined learning how Cobram Estate produce their high quality extra-virgin olive oil right here in Victoria, and tasting the differences between their varieties.... Extra-virgin olive oil has by far the highest amounts of antioxidants than any other oil! This means greater health benefits- think anti-inflammatory (including to help recovery after sport or training) and heart health. Despite common belief, extra-virgin olive oil is perfectly safe to heat and cook with. And very little of it's antioxidants are lost when heated (they're more so lost if you recycle the oil for use another time). How much extra-virgin olive oil is recommended every day? Much more than what most people have! 45mL (or 3 tablespoons) every day in our diet is how much we need to get the full benefits! So don't be afraid to use more extra-virgin olive oil in your cooking, salad dressings and baking. You can even shallow-poach eggs in it!
