15.01.2022 BANDICOOTS ON THE MOVE This adorable Shark Bay bandicoot was part of a group released at Dirk Hartog Island National Park earlier this year. Our scientists hav...e tracked the group and say they are thriving in the safe habitat. Now, to mark #NationalThreatenedSpeciesDay, we're pleased to announce a further 20 endangered bandicoots are being released in the coming weeks! This release is a key milestone in the ground-breaking Return to 1616 ecological restoration project, which aims to revitalise and support native ecological systems, following the eradication of feral cats, goats and sheep. As the Shark Bay bandicoot is vulnerable to extinction, every individual animal released into safe habitat makes a difference to the future of the species. 02.01.2022 Discover your backyard in Australia's Coral Coast... Meet Tory from Dirk Hartog Island, in the UNESCO Shark Bay World Heritage Area. This secluded, natural wond...erland is Western Australia's largest island, a National Park, and the site of the first recorded landing on Australian soil by Europeans in 1616. Today, the island's environment is being restored to how it would have been found those 404 years ago as part of Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia's 'Return to 1616' project. The island is referred to as an 'ark' for endangered wildlife and is renowned for its tranquil beaches, stunning landscape and nature-based adventures. Did you know there's a (rose) pink lake here too?! This is Tory's backyard, and she can't wait to welcome you. Accessible by barge from Steep Point (4WD only), light aircraft, or on tour, Dirk Hartog Island has a mix of accommodation available with dedicated camping sites around the island and the rustic retreat of Dirk Hartog Island Eco Lodge. #WanderOutYonder along the Coral Coast Highway to this pristine paradise to swim, snorkel or kayak at secluded beaches, explore on foot on a self-guided walk trail, fish and 4WD, and soak up stunning views of rugged, plunging cliffs, blowholes and rock pools. Or, simply take advantage of the opportunity to switch off and reconnect with nature Discover your backyard in Australia's Coral Coast today: https://bit.ly/australiascoralcoast Dirk Hartog Island, Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre, Western Australia, Australia.com

01.01.2022 Sink your teeth into Shark Bay for your next road trip adventure.

01.01.2022 It's almost nesting time for these cool dudes Did you know that Ningaloo is one of the world's major breeding areas for sea turtles and during nesting season ...(late-November to March), you can find green and loggerhead turtles making their way up the beaches to lay their eggs we all know how special and vulnerable turtles are, so if you're going to be in the area during nesting season or hatching season (February to April), we recommend joining a guided night tour from Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia's Jurabi Turtle Centre. Not only will you have the best opportunity to see these incredible creatures in their natural environment, but you'll actively help to conserve them and support crucial research. The Centre is open year-round, and guided tours run from December to March. In the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Turtle Bay at Dirk Hartog Island is another important breeding site. Here, you can find the largest loggerhead breeding colony in Australia.com Loggerheads are the most endangered species of sea turtle in the world, making this site even more significant. If you're planning to #WanderOutYonder to experience the turtle nesting or hatching seasons, make sure to read the Turtle Watcher's Code of Conduct before you go to ensure you have a safe and sustainable interact. https://bit.ly/coralcoastturtles Jake Wilton Photo Visit Ningaloo - Ningaloo Visitor Centre, Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre, Western Australia
