The advice is to stay off Tik Tok for a 24 hour period until they have been able to take this video out of the algorithm. This is a very traumatising video. 19.01.2022 We know that there is still a shameful gap between Aboriginal Victorians and non-Aboriginal Victorians. Its reflected in health outcomes, educational attainme...nt and more. Aboriginal organisations provide vital services including healthcare and educational opportunities. They need facilities that allow them to provide these services at the highest quality possible. We recognise Aboriginal communities understand their own needs the best. Thats why this funding is designed in a way that allows them to develop their own infrastructure projects. The funding will go towards upgrades of exisiting buildings and construction new purpose-built facilities. We have to do everything in our power to close the gap and investing in these services is part of that. For more information, please click here: https://bit.ly/2OW9Xyj.

17.01.2022 Geelong will take a step towards our new COVID-normal from 11:59 PM next Sunday. Its part of a cautious plan to reopen that takes into account expert modelling... mapping out the trajectory of the virus. I understand some people will have wanted more to open up sooner, but we need to do this safely. We cant run into reopening all that would mean is running into an even deadlier third wave. It would mean opening up businesses just to have them shut down a few weeks later. Weve all come too far, given too much, to see our efforts wasted.

14.01.2022 Time for a funny

14.01.2022 Geelong has almost half of all regional COVID-19 cases, and in recent days weve seen a disturbing trend. So, from tomorrow, well begin a massive regional tes...ting effort to ensure were uncovering every single case we can. Thats because it only takes a few undiscovered cases to turn into widespread community transmission. Regional testing capacity will be expanded with additional staff across a number of sites in our region. And weve increased the isolation payment to $450 to make sure everybody can afford to do the right thing. It might seem like regional Victoria has been lucky so far. Weve seen fewer cases and avoided the harsher lockdown that Melbourne is facing. But make no mistake it isnt luck, and we all have a part to play in keeping it that way. If you have symptoms, no matter how mild get tested, and self-isolate until you have your results. For your own health. For your loved ones. And for all regional Victorians.

13.01.2022 Geelong will return to Stage 3 restrictions from 11:59 PM this Wednesday night. That means there will again only be four reasons to leave home as outlined belo...w. Students will attend school as normal on Monday, have a pupil free day Tuesday, and learn from home from Wednesday. Onsite supervision will be available for students who cant learn from home and for specialist schools. From 6:00 PM tonight, Victoria will enter a State of Disaster. That will give our police additional powers to make sure people are complying with public health directions. Overall, this is a difficult announcement to share I understand people will feel scared, sad and worried. But the current levels of community transmission are simply too high. Based on the current numbers, cases might begin to drop off not in days or weeks but in months. That means months more of lockdown restrictions and 300, 400 or 500 cases each and every day. Thats not something any of us are willing to accept, so we must do more we must go harder.

13.01.2022 Not even a pandemic stops us Rotarians from getting together and having a laugh or sharing a story or two - all virtual of course! As the weeks continu...e - we are still meeting each week with still excellent conversation, great guest speakers, guests from other clubs and we still continue planning on whats next to help our community! 12.01.2022 Theres only one right way.

11.01.2022 I know all of us wish we could flick a switch and return to normal, but that just isnt possible. Were working with unions, businesses and community groups to... develop a long-term, sustainable plan. This Sunday, well outline what that plan to reopen looks like so we can give all Victorians certainty.

06.01.2022 In 2019 there were 307,907 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza, and 902 influenza confirmed deaths reported nationally in Australia. That was a case mortali...ty of 0.29%. In the current 2020 season there have been 20,934 notifications of laboratory confirmed influenza, and 36 deaths nationally thus far. Thats a case mortality of 0.17%. The data is really quite simple and shows us a few things: 1. Based on the same time last year, thats a massive 89% reduction in influenza cases. 2. Based on the same time last year, thats a massive 58% reduction in case mortality. But there is more. Victoria, which had over 150 laboratory-confirmed influenza deaths in 2019, has not reported a single laboratory-confirmed influenza death in 2020 thus far. Let me repeat that: 150 Victorians died due to influenza last year compared to zero this year. These drops in influenza cases and mortality are directly related to the restrictions that have been in place since March. Social distancing, improved hand hygiene, staying home when unwell, and other common sense measures WORK! Who would have thought that when you implement policy that asks people to modify their behaviour in order to stop a virus from spreading, that lives would actually be saved?? Conspiracy theorists always love to compare influenza to CoVID, as if they are one and the same. While both can cause respiratory illness, and both can be complicated by acute respiratory distress and pneumonia, these viruses are vastly different. The fact we have CoVID-19 running rampant throughout the world, despite all the precautions and restrictions in place that have literally arrested the influenza season, is due to the fact that unlike influenza, which is transmitted in larger respiratory droplets, CoVID-19 is aerosoled. That makes it wildly infectious and incredibly unpredictable. Ill leave you with one final piece of data to mull over: To date we have had 22,123 notifications of laboratory-confirmed CoVID-19 in Australia, with 352 CoVID-19 deaths. Thats a case mortality of 1.6%. So based on case mortality alone, CoVID kills almost 10x more Australians than influenza. Thats WITH restrictions in place. CoVID-19 and influenza are nothing alike. - Sara

06.01.2022 I know there has been a lot of interest in where to buy a mask in recent days. With the help of Ethical Clothing Australia, Ive put together this list of ethi...cal, Australian-made masks to buy online. Please comment below if you know of any local stores that I should include in the list. Masks are recommended in regional Victoria in situations where social distancing cannot be observed. This advice does not apply to people under 12 and people who cannot wear a mask for any reason. Masks should never be worn by children under 2. Please remember: while it is an extra layer of protection, a mask does not make you immune to COVID-19.
