20.01.2022 First baby.. delivered 18 HOURS after water broken...naturally at 3:30am. A big accomplishment especially mum has been told she needed a Caesarean section very early in her pregnancy (not by my team). If both the baby and mum are doing well, there is no rush to do an emergency Caesarean section when we are aiming for a natural birth. It is OK to have a slow and steady labour, as long as it is progressing satisfactorily and both bub and mum are doing well.... Baby Mia was delivered at 3:30am in the morning. The timing of labour & delivery is determined by the baby and labour progress, not by the timing of the carers including the obstetrician looking after the patients or in charge. Very proud mum and dad, doing really well. Baby Mia is super cute. Well done, congratulations!!!!!! Labour is very unpredictable, recently I have another patient in labour when we have all given up on natural birth and aiming for a Caeserean section. 1/2 hr later in theatre before starting a Caesarean section I performed my last check, to our surprise she has progressed from 3cm to fully dilated in 1/2 hour; I helped her to have a natural birth instead of a Caesarean section. As an obstetrician, to give the best service I always prepare for the most serious emergencies, but aiming for the best and relaxed, reassured experiences for my patients. I always let my patients know: The Most Important Thing that you need to know is I am ALWAYS AVAILABLE; I can be contacted by phone 24/7. I also check my email everyday. You may have been trying to conceive for a long time, or sadly have had miscarriages in the past; it takes time to slowly feel more reassured, and for you to start enjoying your pregnancy. 16.01.2022 Read an article in Herald Sun that healthy embryos may have been discarded in a fertility group in Australia (not Genea) due to errors in 'non-biopsy PGS technique' used. This is heartbreaking news. Just for clarification and reassurance to our patients, Genea and Genea Hollywood Fertility have not used the 'non-biopsy PGS technique' at all. As stated in my previous videos, before embracing any new technologies we should seriously consider the benefits and dangers, and the ...potential harm they may bring to our precious patients. I do keep a close eye on all new techniques in my field of practice, and study them carefully before introducing them to my patients. My team and I pay tremendous attention and emphasis on quality control in the treatments and technologies used.

15.01.2022 Bella The Dog was not really pleased when I left her half-shaved while being called to the hospital to see a patient. Several hours and a baby being delivered later, I managed to complete the hairdressing job. She looks pretty happy, I have given her a Darth Vader hairstyle. haha!!

Thinking of my obstetric and fertility patients, some may have some level of anxiety due to previous experiences. Also thinking of my colleagues (doctors, nurses), working hard to look after patients and also their families. R U OK? Psychological health is very important for our wellbeing. 12.01.2022 I know it is late at night, I did take a nap earlier. With my favourite music on (jazz & musical, some classical), I can work all night long. Just reviewing the notes and information for new and existing patients who want to see me urgently, some still very early in their pregnancies. The clinics for the next few weeks are "a bit" full. For some patients they can wait for a few weeks to see me; often I give them a phone call later today to congratulate and reassure them, an...d also to discuss some early plans e.g. starting medications or organising ultrasound scans before we meet. Looking at my calendar, I have to extend a few clinics to early evening for the next few weeks to "squeeze in" patients that need to see me urgently. My sec Tash have already mentioned to me that I do need to extend my clinics into the evening next week to fit in the important consultations!! Looking after patients well requires a good team. I really appreciate those around me that work hard to help me to care for patients and to communicate with them. - Thankful to theatre staffs who are so flexible in allowing me to start super early often to "squeeze in" urgent operating cases, sometimes for patients who need surgery before their fertility treatments soon, sometimes for patients who need to relocate or return to their hometowns soon. - Thankful to my secretary Natasha who is working hard to organise my clinics, theatres and also doing a very important job of reassuring my patients. - Thankful to my patients who are willing to wait for my phone calls or emails until later in the day/evening when I am busy catching a cute little baby and making sure the mum is safe!!! Haha, I can keep going. Although we don't celebrate it in the UK or Australia, it sounds like Thanksgiving day.

09.01.2022 I feel honoured to have been invited to be an editor of a new book on Medical Advances in IVF, however I am just too busy with patients at present to be able to do a good job on this one. A little bit disappointed that I have to decline the invitation. I have agreed to write a chapter in the book though. There was no restriction on the topic, I have chosen to write a chapter on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in IVF. With all the hype is it really any good at present? I am sure in the future we will use AI more and more in IVF clinics and labs. Will it replace doctors eventually one day? Dr Robot will see you now.

09.01.2022 The health benefit of the Mediterranean diet outweighs body weight for some illnesses. It is not always about the weight!! As written in my recipe book I still recommend this diet for fertility and pregnancy. 07.01.2022 Been invited to be on screen in a reality show in a well known international TV channel in the USA. I can't disclose anything at this stage but it will be aired in the near future. There are definitely more drama and oddity in reality show than in our routine life, I am really worried about the editing on how I will be portrayed. Please please producer be kind to me. Definintely more drama and action than my daughter below, haha.

07.01.2022 The shape of an embryo is a sphere (ball). It is pretty light too. Really amazing to see it rolling, before being gently picked up and transferred back home into the womb. This is a beautiful one, fingers crossed.

05.01.2022 I am glad my daughter enjoyed her time at the Crown last night. She has tried her best to be good this year, so for her birthday we have promised her a holiday away from home for one night. She even said Daddy I hope you get to spend some time at the Crown with us, but if you have to go to see your patients it is OK. This is our first holiday together this school year, albeit for only 1 night. I am really thankful for my wife Chee and daughter Eva who have travelled ar...ound the world with me for more than 10 years in my training in the past. I remember when I was enrolling for my doctorate research in the reproduce science laboratory, my professor warned me that if I want to be the best, my family would need to endure the long hours ( at least 80 hours a week) that I had to spend in the lab and hospitals. My daughter was born when I was almost living in the lab for my doctorate research. After the research, we moved to another city again so that I could get the best training in infertility, reproductive medicine and surgery subspecialisation. The precious opportunity for subspecialist training in reproductive medicine in the UK was few and far between; that year there were only 2 training posts and I was selected to complete one of them. I had to grab the chance even with the knowledge of that fact that my family would have to relocate again, and I also had to prolong my training by a few years on top of the extended training time that I had already spent doing my doctorate research. Each time I moved for my best training job opportunity, my wife Chee would travel with me to a new city, and started all over again to settle in her new job and home. Fast forward to these few years, I have been providing my service for my patients 24/7. I look after mums-to-be from the very beginning of the pregnancy, making sure that I can deliver their babies and care for them privately even in King Eddies before 30 weeks. I like to see my patients personally when I am in Perth, as I know them personally and they value my care and reassurance. When I am not in the hospital in the weekend, I will be busy doing videos for my patients or writing books and articles. Apart from our short holidays away 1 or 2 weeks a year when my specialist colleagues cover for me, my family knows that I am regularly working and can be called away at any time after hours. Somehow my family has developed the skills and strategies to live in my absence and without much of my help at home. However, it is amazing that they still share the same joy as me when I tell them the stories of my patients conceiving after many years of trying, and when they see the photos of cute healthy babies and happy parents. A few more hours to check out, so far it has been quiet last night. If still no patients in labour this morning I get to spend some time with them for breakfast!

04.01.2022 A patient's partner, "I think you may have the worst job ever."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a huge difference between 2 weekends. Last weekend I was so busy looking after patients in both fertility/gynae and obstetrics. This weekend is quite a bit different. Yesterday (Saturday) was reasonably busy. Today (Sunday) after catching up with paperwork & ward rounds seeing my patients, I actually had time to give Bella the dog a hair cut. I know it is not perfectly professional, but... it was fun and relaxing. I have managed to spend a bit more time with family too. I think my daughter had a good day today. We have been all so busy, it has been a while since we have spent a good day together. My family is used to me going in and out most of the time day or night. I am happy to be extremely flexible with my time, I think it is an important mindset to be a good obstetrician for my patients. I am really thankful to have such a patient and understanding family. The other day one of my patients said my job is cool but he thinks it is the worst job ever to have to be so dedicated 24/7. I actually think it is the opposite, to be able to share patients' joyful moment in fertility & childbirth is an exceptional privilege. The science, art & latest technologies in fertility & obstetrics are out of this world. I like to keep pushing boundaries!!!!! PS another video on fertility coming early tomorrow am!! Saw this book the other day in a children's bookstore. it describes in detail how babies are made naturally and also via IVF. Eva read it and asked us a few questions.
