24.01.2022 "Help us re-open!!" Mornington Peninsula Tourism have lodged an e-petition for the legislative council to consider their request that the Minister and Department reclassify the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley LGA's to regional. This action has been taken due to the sheer frustration that the businesses and community on the Mornington Peninsula have with the inequity that exists with the current classification. This has been exasperated with the close down.... Over the past 8 years Mornington Peninsula Tourism have consistently raised the fact that we as a region receive less support than other regions, this includes no access to RDV, no regional concessions for payroll tax, no government support for regional training to name but a few examples. After hearing from many of people yesterday, they have decided that continuing to ask the machinery of government to address this issue was a waste of time. Therefore, have opted to try to get the elected officials to consider the request via the established petition system. The hope that the process will illustrate to our elected officials that as a community we are not treated equitably and that they will act to rectify this circumstance. We ask that you consider signing the petition and sharing it with your networks. This will not just help tourism businesses but EVERYONE on the Mornington Peninsula. 13.01.2022 AFL Grand Final screening at Dromana 3 Drive-In, CANCELLED! At 6:50pm last night, we received the long awaited call from the Department of Jobs, Precincts & Regions (DJPR). We have been de-railed by politics! We are gutted!!... Earlier in the week, we were confident that the drive-in would be able to screen the live telecast... Then the Cox Plate fiasco! Quite rightly, there was a huge public outcry for allowing an elite group of racehorse owners to attend. As a result, the Crisis Cabinet decided the Drive-In would not be re-classified as a 'Permitted Work Premises' for the screening of the AFL Grand Final. What a joke, for the sake of saving face! The Drive-In is the MOST Covid Safe business around. What’s more, it would have been a fantastic therapeutic outing for so many local people to attend, their game, on Victorian soil! The Premier has total control, what happened to govern by cabinet? What are Ministers for? The handling of Covid-19 has been a disaster, what about a bipartisan approach to decision making? Today, we will refund all tickets sold, along with the donations made to Breast Cancer Network Australia Entertainment Assist and Independent Cinemas Australia Charities. We thank everyone for their amazing support, effort, comments and voice. 08.01.2022 2001 A Space Odyssey, released 2 May 1968. I had the pleasure of running this magnificent epic movie on 70mm film. At the Drive-In, we had the advantage of a large scale screen (33 mtr wide), but only little speakers hanging on your window. Last night, I presented it in Digital projection on the same screen, 4K resolution and a print that I assume was remastered from the 70mm stock. We now have FM stereo sound, but the real surprise was the image quality! I had hoped for so...mething special, but the results are spectacular! The depth of field, crispness, colour, steadiness, focus... it all came together to bring back the days of the 70mm film presentation... but better? Goosebumps, us projectionists would say... "Can't beat 70mm projection" Yes, but it's VERY hard to get a perfect film picture on a large screen; Hot spots, aberrations! What it does show is that modern digital projectors CAN produce exceptional results! I noticed that 'Never Ending Story' (screening tonight as well), also has very good results - but all too often, it seems that with digital, its easy to cut corners & costs in the production areas.
