22.01.2022 Meet Shelby Hi I’m Shelby! I have been in the dental industry for over 10 years now, working in private practice in both a nursing position and as a receptionist. What I love most about my job is the connections that I am able to make with our patients and their families, as well as being part of a vibrant and supportive team! Being a part of building up Eastside this past year has been extremely rewarding. I have loved seeing all of the familiar faces and welcoming lots of new families to our clinic. Outside of work I enjoy catching up with friends and spending time with my gorgeous dog Percy and my husband.

19.01.2022 Meet Dr Kate Hi I’m Kate, dentist and owner of Eastside Family Dental . I was born and bred in Geelong and have now been practicing here for 12 years. Boy has that gone fast! I often get asked why I chose dentistry as a career. To be honest, it wasn’t even something I considered at school. Up until this point, my experience with dentists wasn’t a good one. I’d been hurt and I was scared! After deciding to take a break after 6 months of Forensic Science, I landed a job as ...a dental assistant. I knew nothing about dentistry but within a few weeks, my entire world opened up and I just knew I had to do whatever it took to become a dentist. My mentor was the most gentle and kind man who really cared about his patients and I could tell they became almost like family to him. I wanted that! I opened Eastside almost 12 months ago and it has been an absolutely amazing journey. I feel so very lucky to have the most wonderful staff who I work alongside and the world’s best patients who have been so loyal to choose to follow me to my new clinic. Not to mention, the most beautiful dental clinic to work in! Truly I’m blessed . Dentistry is my passion, caring for my patients and changing their perception of dentists is a big priority for me. I absolutely love what I do I have two gorgeous girls, aged 7 and 10, a husband Leigh and a Burmese cat named Bobby. I love to keep fit, read books, cook and can’t sit still to save myself. Oh and I’m a chocoholic . Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my new clinic. And welcome to all our new and future patients. 15.01.2022 Most babies will have their first tooth erupt between 6 and 12 months of age! How adorable is little Harriet with her first toothbrush?! So happy to see that she is already off to a wonderful start caring for her brand new chompers! Here are some tips to help kick start good dental habits early! From Birth - use a cloth to clean the gums. ... Eruption of the first tooth - start using a kids toothbrush with water twice a day. 12 months - come and visit us here at Eastside for a check-up. 18 months - start using a pea size amount of children’s toothpaste. 2 1/2 years - start flossing your child’s teeth (especially between the back teeth). 6 years - switch to adult strength fluoride toothpaste. Continue to assist and supervise brushing throughout the early years. Your kids may want to brush their teeth all by themselves, but trust us they still need your help until they are around 8 years of age.

13.01.2022 It’s dental health week! This year the focus is on sugar. We all know that sugar is bad for our teeth, but did you know that sugar has over 50 names (sneaky we know)! It’s not just the obvious sources such as chocolate and lollies or the white granules added to tea and coffee that we have to look out for There are often hidden sugars in perceived healthy foods. Sugar is often disguised under other names and may be marketed as natural such as in the form of honey. However, sugar is still sugar no matter how it is labelled and all sugar can contribute to tooth decay. 07.01.2022 Meet Dr Jane Hi I’m Jane! I’m a dentist here at Eastside, joining Kate and the team in March this year. I have spent time working in both city and country practices across Victoria and SA and am glad to have found my niche here at Eastside in Geelong ... I think a lot of people assume that dentists have perfect teeth. My story is far from that! I grew up on a farm in SA without fluoridated water and so had my fair share of dental work as a child. Fortunately, I always had very positive dental experiences and loved going to the dentist. I even begged my parents for an electric toothbrush for my 10th birthday! I think that was an early sign of what was to come. When I was a teenager I was a little self conscious about my smile. I had braces and can still remember how much confidence I gained after having orthodontic treatment. I was happy and proud to smile. I love that, as a dentist, I am in a position where I can help others to find that confidence too! There is so much more to dentistry than just teeth! I think it is so important to take a holistic approach to dentistry. Listening and talking to each patient and building lasting relationships is not only one of the best parts of the job for me, but it also enables me understand each patient and the many variables going on in their life which could be impacting their dental health. I find it really rewarding to see patients who haven’t been to the dentist for many years, for whatever reason, get back on track with their oral health. I hope to always provide my patients with a comfortable and gentle dental experience. There is no better feeling than when a patient leaves after an appointment and says it wasn’t as bad as they expected. In my spare time I can usually be found outdoors trying to keep fit and active. I have a very energetic puppy called Rupert who, like me, loves spending weekends down at the beach. I also love snow skiing and my latest hobby is surfing. I feel so privileged to work alongside such a wonderful team in such a gorgeous dental practice. It has been so lovely to see some familiar faces from Torquay and also meet lots of new faces since joining Kate here at Eastside!

I have now been a Dental Assistant for 10 years and I absolutely love it. I take pride in nursing and caring for every patient, both young and old. I strive for all patients to have a positive and stress-free experience. I live on the surfcoast with my husband and 2 children, where our favourite pastime is walking our dogs along the beach. Like Kate and Jane, Anna loves building long lasting relationships with her patients and has a very caring and friendly nature. She fits right in to our whole team and our culture. Although not business as usual and there are some changes to our processes, we are here to care for our wonderful patients both new and existing. We have a very high standard of infection control and our number one priority is as always, to keep our patients and staff safe.
