22.01.2022 20th March 2020 Dear families, We are receiving a high volume of phone calls and emails from parents understandably concerned about the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) to their children with underlying cardiac conditions. ... Western Cardiology would like to inform our families of our current position regarding COVID-19: While COVID-19 may pose a risk to our patients, based on available evidence children in general do not appear to be at a higher risk and are less vulnerable than adults. No additional precautions are necessary at this stage for children with cardiac conditions in attending school, childcare or requiring isolation. The Department of Health advice for self-isolation if your child is unwell or if you have returned from overseas or interstate within the last 14 days must be followed. All children should adhere to standard infection control precautions for preventing transmission, similar to adults. Please do not bring any toys from home and limit toddlers to one comfort item only. We are unable to issue any parent certificates or letters of support for work purposes to family members. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused. All paediatric cardiology clinics are continuing as scheduled at this stage and we are not recommending routine cancellations. However, if your child is scheduled for routine review and the last appointment was more than one year ago, you should consider deferring this review for another 6 months. If you do not wish to attend or have been overseas or interstate within the last 14 days please call (08) 9346 9300 to reschedule your appointment. If your child develops a fever, cough or sore throat and they have returned from overseas or interstate within the last 14 days, or have been exposed to a close contact with coronavirus, please seek medical attention. Updated information is available via the Government of Western Australia Child and Adolescent Health Service website. We fully appreciate and share the concerns that our families have regarding the impact of COVID-19. We hope you find this information helpful. Yours sincerely, Luigi DOrsogna & Deane Yim Paediatric Cardiologists, Western Cardiology
