23.01.2022 STACKING ELASTICS In this activity, I have used some soft hair elastics and a kitchen roll holder. A metal kitchen roll holder that has a wide neck is what I find works best for this activity, as it requires the children to really work their fingers to stretch the elastics around it before they then get to push it down. ... Although our younger friends found this activity a little tricky at first, it didn’t take them long to get the hang of it. NEXT UP: horizontal stacking will be introduced. It will be more of a challenge since our friends have now mastered the vertical stacking with the soft hair ties. WHAT LEARNING IS HAPPENING? * It STRENGTHENS THE HANDS AND WRISTS - through working the small muscles within them *It develops FINE MOTOR SKILLS - manipulating a hair tie can be tricky! *It promotes HAND EYE COORDINATION - the coordination needed for this activity means the eyes are working closely with the hands * It develops BILATERAL COORDINATION - as both hands need to work together to succeed with getting the hair tie onto the roller. *It promotes TURN TAKING - taking turns is one of the most critical social skills that is needed in day to day life #childcare #familydaycare #fdc #earlychildhoodeducation #earlylearning #toddleractivity #montessori #diytoysforkids

18.01.2022 Art allows children to develop their creativity which is important throughout their lives. By doing something creative, you allow for self-expression and this lets children express (and cope with) their feelings. Art also fosters mental growth in children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, new ways of thinking and problem-solving.

03.01.2022 Easter Egg Hunt. As Easter is fast approaching, this week I transformed our sensory station into a mini Easter Egg Hunt! Each tub was filled with *Rainbow Rice *A Small Easter Hunting Basket... *A Scoop And *A Handful Of Easter Eggs This activity was seen to encourage: *LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT sensory play is wonderful for developing new vocabulary! The words used while the children are physically engaging in play have so much more meaning. I often heard "OH WOW!" And "Look!" While the younger children found the easter eggs hiding within the rice. * COORDINATION & DEXTERITY - was seen as the children moved the rice with their hands and manipulated the scoop to collect the eggs before placing them either into their basket or back into the rice. *COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT, FINE MOTOR SKILLS #familydaycare #fdc #earlychildhoodeducation #earlylearning #toddleractivity #montessori #kindyactivity #sensory #sensoryplay #KAH #Easter #EasterActivity #EasterCelebrations

02.01.2022 For young learners, science is just an extension of their everyday world. We don’t have to teach young children how to wonder, discover, and explore through play because they do it naturally.
