24.01.2022 Not sure about this guy...Looks like G.applanatum, but white. Its growing on a piece of pine so not sure if the pine sap is making it colour that way. ANY HELP?

23.01.2022 Anyone wanna add some there favourite wild crafted mushrooms??? Dont have to give away your secret spots just show some pics and IDs etc

22.01.2022 Something to keep in mind when your picking wild mushrooms. There is no rule to ID edible species, except that there is no rule...Amanita phalloides is VERY deadly. I heard that it actually liquifies the internal organs, hence the liver translate of one of the people in the story.

22.01.2022 one more month to go before we have to decide...which knife to use to go picking with. Happy hunting lets get some of those finds posted and see if we can work out some new edibles this season, or just fav recipes of the old timers...

21.01.2022 is this edible ? ...answer NO/YES

18.01.2022 The fruiting bodies of this polypore genus look like bright reddish-orange brackets and are widespread on dead wood. In Australia there are two species - Pycnoporus coccineus and Pycnoporus sanguineus, with overlapping distributions. Moreover, the two species are similar in appearance, so without specimens there will be doubt as to which Pycnoporus species is meant in any particular account. One or other Pycnoporus is used medicinally in a variety of ways by desert Aborigines... - "sucked to cure sore mouths", rubbed inside the mouths of babies with oral thrush, rubbed on sore lips. It has also been used as a teething ring. Out of curiosity, and after hearing of the Aboriginal use of this fungus, one person in Canberra chewed on a Pycnoporus specimen to see if it would have any effect on a small mouth ulcer. The ulcer soon disappeared, so at least the fungus had no detrimental effect. Of course, in this case, there is still the question of whether chewing the fungus cured the ulcer or whether its disappearance was coincidental. Two antibiotic compounds have been found in Pycnoporus coccineus. See more

18.01.2022 And we now have fresh Ganoderma lucidium (multipleum) in Australia thanks to Todd at green globe notion. This is the humble harvest from a single trial that was a success...

02.01.2022 Found some Amanita muscaria today in a small pine forest near Port Macquarie NSW. Anyone out there know how to dry and prep them? Keep in mind this is NOT an edible mushroom people it is toxic if not prepared right...

02.01.2022 Best video Ive seen on ID of slippery jacks (Suillus luteus). I havent seen many larch boletus (Suillus grevillei) in Aust but they may be around in some of the European gardens as they would of come over with the plants. S.luteus is found in the pine forests of Aust inoculated in the pines as saplings. Happy hunting...!
