24.01.2022 Such a tragedy...

23.01.2022 This year I’m really missing NOT seeing the ANZAC badges for sale in our community... but we can all still support the #anzacappeal by making a donation online. Lest we forget

22.01.2022 I want to be up front with you. Over the next few months our unemployment rate could rise to as high as 11 per cent. The size of our economy may shrink by as mu...ch as 14 per cent. Hundreds of thousands of Victorians will likely lose work. And the situation we'll face will be far bleaker than the Global Financial Crisis. I know that's stark, I know it's confronting but it's a reality. It's the economic picture looming into sharp relief for every single country and government around the world. It represents real people and real consequences for Victorian workers and their families. These are more than just numbers on a spreadsheet. They're lost jobs and overdue bills. Financial stress and worry. And Victorians deserve to know what we're doing about it. Tomorrow, Parliament has been recalled to consider an emergency measures and supply bill approving $24.5 billion in urgent funding authority. Funds will go towards our health system, keeping businesses open, and supporting Victorian workers and their families to get through this. I know it's a big figure and we will only spend what is absolutely necessary. But we have to be able to respond quickly when it's needed. We've already paid out hundreds of millions in payroll tax refunds to over 17,000 small businesses. We've distributed almost $110 million in business support grants helping ensure there are jobs to go back to. We're ramping up our Working for Victoria Fund, with more than 2,000 people who had lost their jobs now employed in new ones. And we're continuing our pipeline of major projects building big to create more jobs and ensure we have the infrastructure we need for recovery. I know I've said it before but these events really are unprecedented. We haven't seen an economic situation like this in the post-war world. And while there's no denying the road ahead will be difficult we will see this through. I promise you that.

14.01.2022 BOOK GIVEAWAY: I was thinking about the huge impact the "lockdown" is having on children of all ages and how writing is a great way for people to express their ...feelings and thoughts. I invite school students aged 5-18-years-old to write a short story, fiction or non-fiction, with some reference to the current situation we all are in. All those who send a story will go into a prize draw for the complete Stone Keepers trilogy. I also hope to publish the stories in a book later in 2020 with any profit going to charity. Full details are on my website. https://www.karlanakasarik.com/lockdown-story-project

13.01.2022 Life has changed for us all, but this too shall pass. Someday soon we'll be ready to roam again and spend the days wandering through dappled pathways

13.01.2022 I don't usually like dealing in hypotheticals. But this one's important because it's where we were heading just a few weeks ago. This morning Victoria's Chief... Health Officer released coronavirus modelling for our state. These projections tell us that without physical distancing, Victoria could be facing up to 58,000 new cases a day during the peak of the virus. 10,000 people would need ICU beds. 7,000 would need ventilators. And 650 Victorians would die. Every day. I want to reinforce how serious this is. Because I know some people are getting frustrated. It's difficult not being able to do the things you enjoy. But if we all started ignoring the advice I can assure you Victoria would become a very different place. And no game of golf or fishing trip is worth it. It's just not. The restrictions we have in place are working. The data shows us that. And the experience of other countries shows that lifting restrictions too quickly throws away all that hard work. So our message remains the same: Stay home. Protect our health system. Save lives.

10.01.2022 18. Hey Easter bunnies, did you know that you can collect the aluminium wrapping from your Easter eggs, scrunch them into one ball then pop it into your counc...il kerbside recycling bin? Want to go further and reduce even that waste? Then you can make your own chocolate eggs or naturally dye your hard boiled eggs. Alternatively you can try our kids Easter activity for last year which was toothpick pricking a message and/or an image onto a feijoa. Remember to eat it soon after though so it doesn’t go to waste. The perfect seasonal egg shaped fruit that’s delicious too! DM us with your email and we can send instructions for feijoa decoration and naturally dyeing eggs! 09.01.2022 As governments are trying to figure out how to ease back into a new normal, please remember: Some people don’t agree with the suggested reopening.... that’s o...kay. Be kind. Some people are still planning to stay at home.... that’s okay. Be kind. Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening.... that’s okay. Be kind. Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may possibly save their business or their homes....that’s okay. Be kind. Some are thankful they can finally have a surgery they have put off....that’s okay. Be kind. Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job....that’s okay. Be kind. Some will wear masks for weeks....that’s okay. Be kind. Some people will rush out to get the hair or nails done.... that’s okay. Be kind. The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and that’s okay. Be kind. We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home. But be kind. If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and be kind! Don’t judge fellow humans because you’re not in their story. We all are in different Financial - and - Mental states than we were months ago. So remember, be kind. Copy, paste, and share as a reminder to BE KIND!

04.01.2022 We can't flick a switch to bring back gigs and concerts overnight. But we can bring live music to your lounge room. Starting this Sunday night, we're launching ...State of Music a free weekly concert series featuring your favourite local musos. First up are performances from Birds of Tokyo, Diesel and G Flip, with more to be announced. This morning we also launched Victoria Together a new website full of online experiences to keep Victorians connected and creatives working. There's something for everyone on there, from art exhibitions and zoo tours to cooking lessons and yoga sessions. And if you've got any ideas for what else we could include, please let me know. We're open to suggestions and we'll be providing grants to creative Victorians to develop new online content and experiences going forward. You've all done so much these past weeks. And for that I am proud and truly grateful. We have to stay the course and staying apart will keep us together.
