We are a diverse bunch, and over coming months, we will be profiling as many of our brigades and units as we can. So - when your Association visit is due - smile - you might be next

15.01.2022 To all our wonderful Volunteers in emergency services across Australia. Please be safe during these very unprecedented difficult times. Remember the aussie spirit, stick together and help each other when the chips are down. The sun will come up tomorrow and the next day and we will recover. Regards MA

14.01.2022 Please help Bullsbrook VFES support one of their own young firefighters who's receiving treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

14.01.2022 There are 2,300 Volunteer Fire and Rescue Firefighters in Western Australia. Along with their 1,000 VFES, 25,000 BFB, 2,100 SES and 1,400 VMRS counter-parts - t...he close to 32,000 volunteers provide the majority of Western Australia's emergency response capability. Each individual volunteer gives up their own time to train to both meet and maintain the required standard to ensure they are competent to perform their role. On top of this, they often maintain full-time employment and contribute positively towards both the community and the economy in roles such as Policing, Health-Care, Mining, Teaching, Construction, Transport, Corrections, Defence, Science, Engineering, Public Transport, Security and Agriculture. On top of this, when they are not keeping our community and State safe, many of those volunteers give up additional time to head interstate to support both national and international disaster response efforts on behalf of the State of WA. Whilst there may be those out there that don't particularly value the contribution of volunteers - or view those volunteers as less because they are unpaid, Falcon just wanted to say thank you. Whilst normally we try to avoid self-indulgence, as a result of some media coverage we just wanted to say thank you to all Volunteers both within the metropolitan area and those in the regions. We get it. Thank you for giving up your weekends. Thank you for giving up full nights of sleep. Thank you for giving up your holidays. Thank you for giving up your family time. Thank you for forgoing secondary employment. Thank you for your commitment. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for risking your life to protect others. Thank you for your professionalism.

14.01.2022 The folks at Baldivis VFES are recruiting new members.

13.01.2022 Yesterday and today, people representing all three volunteer fire services (VFES, VFRS, VBFB) were involved in a workshop on the reformatted fire training packages for new members. It was an excellent couple of days with us getting the chance to work through some of the material and make sure it suited each service and also different regions in the state. A true atmosphere of collaboration was evident between the volunteers and DFES staff. Everyone is equally passionate about... getting this material right and upskilling our trainers to make sure the delivery and assessment is modern, meaningful and relevant. In a couple of weeks' time, we're going to try and present the new material to others, as a trial and see how it goes before the final work before release. Training is one of the key priorities of the ESVA this year and it's been a very valuable and rewarding process to go through.

13.01.2022 MARBLE BAR VFES In early August the ESVA Executive Officer had the pleasure of visiting the Marble VFES. For those people who dont know Marble Bar is regarded as the hottest place in Australia and is approx. 2.5 hours from Port Hedland. The VFES is Captain is Amy Pfitzner who leads the team in a very professional manner. Obviously in these remote areas of Western Australia recruitment and retention of volunteers poses many problems, thus the team battles away with limited nu...mbers at times but supports the community extremely well in a number of areas. Their profile covers bushfire, defensive structural firefighting, road crash rescue and land search. In addition, the BGU does a lot of hazard reduction work, flood management and cyclone activity. The team trains on a regular basis and has a number of members from the WA Police as part of their team. See more

13.01.2022 This morning, representatives from volunteer associations met with the Minister and Commissioner about the announcement of the Rural Fire Division within DFES. The media statement about the RFD can be found here: https://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au//Rural-Fire-Division

12.01.2022 A stunning evening on the river at the WAFES 2020 sundowner yesterday, we hope all volunteers enjoyed the opportunity to inspect the fleet and catch up with old friends.

12.01.2022 In mid December, we posted about the next round of volunteer fuel card applications opening. Figures from DFES today show that less than 50% of all eligible brigades, groups or units in the state have applied. Within our service, we're ahead of the curve with 57% of VFES units lodging their applications. If you haven't completed the application yet, please do so ASAP - applications close on the 7th February so don't delay!... For information on how to apply, please see the Volunteer Fuel Card website here: https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/volunteers/Pages/FuelCards.aspx

11.01.2022 The ESVA would like to remind all VFES's that nominations are now open for the DFES Volunteer Conference 6-8 September 2019. The committee has worked extremely hard to ensure there is a wide range of suitable speakers that are applicable to all volunteers as well as a sound program that will engage volunteers on varying topics.

10.01.2022 The ESVA Association would like to offer our condolences to the Peterson family on the loss of a State Emergency Services legend Phil Peterson. Phil was a great guy who worked exceptionally hard for SES volunteers for as long as we can remember. He was a joy to work within, in all aspects of emergency services. Taken from us far too young. Phil, we hope your next journey is as good as this one has been. All the very best to Phil's wife and family. President & ESVA Committee members

09.01.2022 VFES (WA) Association Meeting Your committee is meeting again this weekend to discuss matters that are relevant and important to our members. This afternoon we were pleased to welcome Brett Jasson and Chaplain Dennis Soudla from Wellness Branch, to hear how Wellness is supporting volunteers and staff. Suffice to say, they have had an extremely busy start to the year, and we thank them for their ongoing work. And thanks for making the time to come and meet with us

09.01.2022 Today the 5th December is International Volunteer Day. This year, the theme is "Volunteers Act First. Here. Everywhere" - in recognition of the men and women who act as first responders in times of crisis. According to ABS figures, there's just under 380,000 people in Western Australia who volunteer their time in some way. ... To all our volunteers in VFES units and to all the other volunteers in all the emergency services - thank you for what you do. #volunteerday #volunteersactfirst

09.01.2022 Yesterday all the volunteer associations were invited to a briefing on the 2018 Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games to be held in Mandurah at the end of October this year. A lot of work has already gone into the planning by WA Police and DFES. 115 agencies in Australia, New Zealand and other countries in the region and up to 500,000 paid and volunteer members are eligible to register. The games will have over 50 events over the span of a week, from the 28th Octob...er to 3rd November. The games aren't just for athletes, there's a big push for the social inclusion aspect as well. There's an activity or sport for everyone. We'd really like to encourage people to put teams together and register. The organisers are expecting over 1,500 registrations just from WA with over 1,000 from other states and another 500 from overseas. It's a great opportunity to engage in friendly competition and camaraderie with others in the law enforcement and emergency services area. We'll provide regular updates as they come through from the games organisers but in the meantime, check out their Facebook page or website for all the latest information. https://www.facebook.com/APESGAMES2018 http://www.apandesgames.com.au/

06.01.2022 There’s been a fire at the Wyndham fire station. It appears the light tanker caught fire as a result of the battery charger. A great job by the crew who saved the station Well done everybody.

06.01.2022 Great words from a wise man - ‘not all our heroes wear a bushfire coat’. The ones who do are legends, as are our buddies in orange, and our mates who get out on the water. But there are many, many heroes who may never get out on the job - instead they beaver away in the background providing the backup and support needed to resolve the issue. Our hats off to them - invaluable service, by volunteers and career alike. #behindthefrontline

04.01.2022 Well done to the team at Morawa VFES for a fantastic community education session! Fire Extinguisher Training was held at the Morawa Ambulance centre for the local people & the Ambulance service on the 15th March. The Morawa VFES went through how to operate & use the extinguishers & the different types & how to identify them. Attendees were shown what happens if the wrong type is used. Pamphlets were handed out so they could see the different types of extinguishers & how to us...e them. We had a fire going in a drum so everyone had a go at using the right extinguishers to put the fire out. They were then shown the right way to extinguish a fire on the stove using a fire blanket. Everyone took turns using the fire blankets & felt confident that they could handle one once they had a go. We had a great turn out & everyone was happy with the outcome & felt they were better equipped to handle a fire with the information they were given. See more

04.01.2022 Seeking your input! DFES seeks input from volunteers into the design of the future Emergency Management Training Academy, which is proposed to be developed in the greater Perth region. It is proposed that the new facility will provide contemporary environments to enable career and volunteer personnel to train in realistic scenarios. 04.01.2022 This is what it's all about. It doesn't matter whether you're paid or a volunteer, what uniform you wear, what service or organisation you belong to. It's the teamwork and the integration that lets us all contribute in our own way.

03.01.2022 AGM done and dusted, thanks all for attending and welcome to new Committee member Jimmy Erwin.

02.01.2022 It was all go at Tambellup VFES this weekend, with members completing the On Road Driving course prior to Off Road in a couple of weeks. Tambellup is about 300km south east of Perth in the Great Southern. The VFES is a multi tasking unit, with a profile comprising fire, road crash, land search and storm response. Members are trained across all areas, and work not only with local bush fire brigades, but also neighbouring VFRS brigades and SES units. Most recently a number of members joined with Gnowangerup SES to complete a Basic General Rescue course. Tambellup VFES has in the last couple of years had its shed modified to accommodate a larger 4.4 Broadacre appliance, with the promise of bathroom, tunic room and BA pod upgrades to come. And they have friends in high places
