24.01.2022 WE ARE A SMALL KNIT TEAM At Everythings Connected we are a small knit team. Matt and Shaanika are both osteopaths who underwent their education at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. Following completion of their masters, they studied Applied Functional Science in the United States with the Gray Institute. You can rest assured when you visit Everythings connected, whether you prefer a female or male osteopath, you will receive the same quality care with the same qu...ality education. Both Matt and Shaani use a progressive tailored movement approach when it comes to Osteopathic treatment, involving hands-on therapy, advanced biomechanics, nutrition therapy and self-management education. Here at EC, we want to equip our clients with the necessary tools for better quality health and empowerment. As our name suggests, we believe everything IS connected, and we are more than just muscles and bones - we pride ourselves on creating individualised programs, tailored to your lifestyle, goals and requirements. Yours in health Matthew Harris

24.01.2022 It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye to Mindy. She has been a fantastic part of the EC team and has been fundamental to the smooth running of the clinic. I personally could not survive the last 6 months without her help and assistance and I will always be grateful. She has certainly been ECs own version of Mary Poppins. Short message from Mindy: I am going to miss working with Matt and Shaani, theyre not only amazing Osteopaths, theyre also amazing human beings who have become great friends of mine. Dont be strangers! Lots of love from Mindy x P.S As requested by @lachlanbeard Matt has modelled the UV blue light blockers for you to see how trendy and fashionable they look like on #ec4lyf @ Everythings Connected Progressive Osteopathy

24.01.2022 S L E E P At Everything's Connected we believe the importance of good sleep cannot be stressed enough. Recently I have had a couple of shocking nights sleep- partly due to the heat, a little bit of stress and a couple of rowdy neighbours. I appreciate I can be a bit of a sensitive flower, (at least this is what Shaani informs me) however, I immediately notice a difference in my mood, energy for exercise, and mental focus when I haven't slept well.... While there are a few supplements that can be reached for, these should not be taken until the lifestyle factors are sorted out first. So if you do struggle with sleep make sure you: 1. Stick to a routine- in and out of bed the same time each day. 2. Get early morning sun. 3. Reduce alcohol (this bad boy, unfortunately, is a nervous system depressant, and runs amuck with sleep patterns, even though it can feel like it's calming us down!) 4. Avoid electronic devices a couple of hours before bedtime. Yours in health Matthew Harris

22.01.2022 FOOD OPTIONS AT THE AIRPORT Im extremely lucky that I have the opportunity to travel in my job, visiting Sydney once a month to treat the dancers at Fiona- Gaye Moore Academy. One of the challenges I face however is being confronted with the limited healthy options available at the Airport food- court, particularly when youre starving, coming straight from a days work and being surrounded by the temptation of fast food options. Its in these moments that I have to practis...e what I preach to my patients and resist the temptation to be bad, particularly when I know Im going into a weekend of work, where I need my mind to be sharp. Its amazing that there really are only two options when looking for a healthy dinner option at the airport, which includes either a salad or sushi. Its no wonder we live in a world where we find it difficult to adhere to a healthy, whole food diet when our willpower is constantly challenged, particularly at vulnerable times where were tired, emotional or just plain bored. So what do I find helps this? Im definitely not one with strong willpower, so for me, the out of sight, out of mind motto works. But when I find myself in situations such as at the airport I always try to reflect and think before going for the impulse purchase. You definitely need to live and treat yourself, but timing is everything! If I know Im going into a situation where I need my mind and body to be in top shape, this will always drive me towards choosing the best food options. However, in those times that I know I can have a break from my busy schedule, Ill definitely treat myself. I just have to make sure I dont back that treat up with consecutive days of not so great eating or else my body will definitely tell me its not happy. Yours in health, Shaanika Marguccio

21.01.2022 We are fortunate enough here at Everythings Connected to have patients that are as excited about home grown fresh fruit and veg as we are. We are even more fortunate that our patients are kind enough to share some of their seasons bounty with us. Carrie Lau donated some of the cherry tomatoes from her garden to our salads here at EC yesterday. There is something about home grown produce that tastes even more special than organically grown products bought from the grocers. Perhaps its the love that goes into it. Thanks again Carrie. They were delicious #everythingsconnected #osteopathy #wholefoods #homegrown #tomatoes #nutrition #healthyeating

19.01.2022 KNEE PAIN IN #camberwell Knee pain from osteoarthritis can be tricky and seem to have a mind of its own. One moment it feels fine the next, like a change in the weather, its achey, creaking and stopping you enjoying a good movie. At Everythings Connected Osteopathic Clinic we take the time to help you understand your triggers, like too much exercise, not enough exercise, the wrong exercise at the wrong time and of course the right exercise at the wrong time. We help investigate your biomechanics and tailor exercises that suit you and if amenable we will help you to make food choices that help decrease your discomfort #everythingsconnected #progressiveosteopathy #osteopathy #kneepain #osteoarthritis #movementiskey #functional #rehab

19.01.2022 Knee pain? Hip pain? Lets look at your feet! Here at EC, we have a space that allows us to assess your body as a whole, and to have a look at how it moves specifically during your sport, gym workout or when youre simply going about your day to day activities. ... By assessing more than just the region causing you pain, we are taking the time to assess your biomechanics and tailor exercises that suit you to ultimately help decrease your discomfort. 17.01.2022 Food of the Week- Pineapple by Shaani Marguccio. Pineapples have been long used as a medicinal plant and contain powerful enzymes, particularly an enzyme called bromelain, which is a protein-digesting enzyme. This enzyme works together to help break down and absorb proteins from the foods we eat, which can become difficult on a digestive tract thats under stress and inflamed. Bromelain also can help relieve stomach- aches, heartburn and diarrhoea. In addition to bromelain, P...ineapple is jammed packed full of fibre, which can cause some digestive upset in individuals who are not used to a high fibre diet. To best avoid this, start introducing small portions of pineapple into your diet and slowly increase to a tolerable level to get the benefits. Yours in health, Shaanika Marguccio

17.01.2022 E M P O W E R M E N T Empowering a patient to take control of their own health is the goal for us at EC. One of our clinic principles is "We not Me." I had the pleasure of being present in the gym with my patient this morning while Shaani was simultaneously working with one of her clients. As our patients are aware, the gym space is a communal environment where most treatments at EC take place.... What was lovely this morning was to hear how proud and excited Shaanis patient was with his progress. His voice boomed "I havent been able to move this well for 30 years! Ive been doing all my exercises daily, I can really feel the difference". Its awesome and truly rewarding when patients can achieve results they are seeking, and even better when we provide the tools to empower them to take control of their own health. Yours in health Matthew Harris

15.01.2022 If youve been into the Everythings Connected clinic you may have noticed our funky pair of orange glasses. Theyre called blue blocking glasses and are a great natural tool to improving sleep in people who suffer from sleep deprivation or have trouble sleeping after working at night. The glasses work by their amber coloured lenses, which filter out the blue light portion when working on technological devices at night. If you dont have the glasses you can still avoid this blue light by avoiding using technological devices and screens in the last two hours before bed. If you dont have the option of avoiding bright screens however, give these glasses a go! #uvblocking #melbourne #osteopathy #middlecamberwell #glasses

15.01.2022 W R I S T P A I N. Opening jars, bottles, and doors pain-free are tasks that aren't appreciated until you can't achieve them. Wrist and elbow pain can really hamper tasks such as these. Not to mention it can be a real dent in the ego for some to have to ask for help opening a bottle! Often our initial reaction is to splint the wrist or reduce the use of the hand, however in many cases, this may not be the best approach and once again motion may provide the best lotion. Most ...of all, remember movement of the wrist is only part of the chain reaction and the secret to getting pain free may lie in getting the shoulder, spine or even hips to function better. Yours in health Matthew Harris

15.01.2022 IS YOUR POSTURE CAUSING BACK & NECK PAIN? Whilst bad posture doesnt always cause back & neck pain, it may certainly be contributing to it. Slouching in a chair, standing with uneven weight on both feet and even tight muscles may result in poor posture. At EC were high believers of practising what we preach and if youve been in to see us then youll have noticed our standing reception desk with a high stool. Standing desks are great for breaking up sitting time, in turn h...aving numerous benefits such as reduced pain, reduced risk of obesity & heart disease, and can even boost your mood and productivity! If you dont have a standing desk, getting out of your chair and moving every 30mins can be just as beneficial! . . . #osteopath #progressiveosteopathy #camberwell #everythingsconnected #posture #backpain #neckpain #standingdesk Image via @osteopathyau See more

10.01.2022 MELBOURNE D A N C E WORKSHOP Melbournes turn! Last Thursday I had the opportunity to hold a workshop for the dancers of OConnor School of Irish Dancing as well as some ballerinas at Aspect Motion School of Dance. The workshop focused on 3D mobility specific to Irish Dancers as well as looking at fitness and lower limb strength and power. All the dancers did a fabulous job giving everything a go!... It really was great to work with some ballerinas again. Took me back to my ballet days, so many fond memories! Yours in health, Shaanika Marguccio

10.01.2022 MAGNESIUM - Here at EC we love this product. Here are a few reasons why: Magnesium is involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions in your body (more than 600!) 09.01.2022 I had the absolute pleasure hanging out with @pemackinnon from @the_balancedrunner last week. We discussed many things running and then Paul put me through my paces. It was a great session of self-exploration within a task. While I get out of bed most mornings and run, the majority of my training is goal orientated and focused toward times or pulse rates. Pauls session allowed me to be present and considerate of how I feel through the run. I can highly recommend the experience so if you enjoy running (or hate it but do it anyway) I suggest you check Paul out at The Balanced Runner! #everythingsconnected #osteopathy #progressiveosteopathy #running #balancedrunner #camberwell

09.01.2022 Welcoming the newest addition to our Team - Elle For those of you who have not yet visited us at Everythings Connected this year, we have a new Receptionist/ Front of house superstar - introducing to you Elle! We are pleased to have her on board; here is a little background information about her:... Elle is going to be studying Chiropractic this year at RMIT in Bundoora, yes, she is technically an enemy and we Osteopaths will be sure to remind her of that! Elle is super passionate about holistic health and well-being, especially after she was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 2009, which led her on her own holistic health journey. Becoming unwell was the spark to her interest in alternative health care and she is very excited to work towards her career as a chiropractor, which will enable her to help others in their journey to health and recovery from illness. She enjoys yoga, long walks outdoors, has a past history of playing professional basketball and loves riding her bike to the beach and staying active - she also believes that "motion is the best lotion!" She has a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy, enjoys cooking healthy meals and is currently experimenting with plant-based recipes - we think she may fit in here quite nicely, even if she wants to study Chiropractic. Welcome to the team Elle! Yours in health Matt Harris and Shaanika Marguccio

08.01.2022 Heat vs. Ice- Which one is best? This is a common question that gets asked in the Everythings Connected clinic and the annoying answer is it depends. On an anatomical level, temperature changes affect the diameter of our blood vessels, which can work to our advantage when trying to target the inflammatory response, particularly when looking at acute pain. Ice causes our blood vessels to constrict, limiting the blood flow to the area, whilst heat does the opposite. With this ...change of blood flow, we also get a shift in the inflammatory chemicals to injury site, which can both relieve as well as further promote the inflammatory process to help with the overall healing time of an injury. By incorporating the two, we can create a blood pump effect, which can provide some great relief particularly in the early stages of acute pain. So next time try interchanging between ice and heat over the painful site before reaching for your topical anti- inflammatory creams #everythingsconnected #osteopathy #progressiveosteopathy #icevsheat #painrelief #inflammation #acutepain See more

07.01.2022 HIP PAIN REHAB Hip pain is sometimes best resolved via replacement surgery. However, surgery doesn't mean that you get to skip out on your hip rehab. Here is one of our favorite athletes, Hermina - 82 years young and adores her grandchildren more than anything. Hermina has undergone bilateral hip replacements as well as spinal fusion with rods from L2 to S1. Hard work and determination means she has gone from not being able to stand without pain, to being able to walk with...out her stick in just over 8 months! While she is able to walk without any aids, we decided to introduce Hermina to the lunge matrix where weve tweaked her lunge with the wheely walker to ensure stability and form. #everythingsconnected #progressiveosteopathy #hippain #hipreplacement #rehab #osteopathy #middlecamberwell

07.01.2022 PROBIOTIC TONIC Camberwell welcomes TONIC, a sparkling probiotic drink by @mojobeverages and Everythings Connected Osteopathic clinic approves! This pretty tasty drink made its way onto the shelves of @woolworths_au Camberwell sometime in the last few weeks and contains the probiotic Bacillus Coagulans. Theres been a tone of research on this little critter and its health benefits (we wont bore you with them), however, a simple google search will turn up loads of support... for why you should add this guy to your diet. To keep things simple, we suggest adding one probiotic drink to your diet a day. Its an easy way to get you microbiota fix, tastes great and you know youre doing yourself good! PS: Everythings Connected is not sponsored by Mojo nor do we sell their products, we just like great food and healthy, enjoyable living! #everythingsconnected #progressiveosteopathy #tonic #probiotic #fuelyourmojo #middlecamberwell

04.01.2022 APPLE CIDER VINEGAR - FOOD OF THE WEEK Apple Cider Vinegar is one of those popular trends in the health world at the moment. So whats all the fuss about?... You might have heard apple cider vinegar has beneficial effects on our digestive health, but did you know that it can also help with relieving arthritis and joint pain? ACV is rich in minerals, which includes magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium. Deficiencies in these minerals are contributing factors to arthritic joint pain, as they are crucial elements in maintaining the overall health of the joint structures and soft tissues. Starting the morning with around 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in a glass of warm water is a great way to start. Or you can even add it to your salads as part of your dressing. In ACV, the mother is a culture of beneficial acids that have many health benefits. It would be the equivalent to the scoby used to make Kombucha, which we are also very big fans of! Unrefined vinegar has a murky appearance and typically still contains the mother culture. Clear and pasteurized vinegars typically do not contain the mother culture and dont carry the same benefits. I would recommend purchasing organic and unrefined ACV to receive the most benefits from this amazing food! Yours in health, Shaanika Marguccio

03.01.2022 Delicious AND Healthy Marrow I love a good meal and even as a child, I have always loved the marrow. I have vivid memories of sucking the marrow from the bone of T bone steaks growing up!!! Last night I had the pleasure of being cooked for by my sister, Lyndal, and her husband, Jo. Lyndal is a nutritionist who has her own business- Unrefined Nutrition She also assists with teaching future NTA practitioners.... While the entire meal was fantastic including the red wine, it was the bone marrow served up as an entree that stole the show. As you can see from the photo below I inhaled mine! I will not bore you all with all the health benefits that bone marrow has to offer but I will say that for those recovering from injury or dealing with osteoarthritis then marrow should definitely be on your menu. 01.01.2022 Low back and neck pain after sitting extended (and sometime even short) periods of time are a common patient complaint we see at Everythings Connected. The lack of motion and sustained postures can really wreak havoc on some patients. Here is a picture of the posture stool. You can find the posture stool at Back To Sleep. This chair moves and wobbles in 3 planes forcing the spine to have to adapt to the various motion it produces. Therapists at EC use this motion to there ad...vantage to help articulate the spine adhering to the principle - motion is the motion. 01.01.2022 Food Of The Week- BLUEBERRIES This weeks food of the week, were talking about blueberries! These small little guys are packed full of antioxidants, which help protect our body from unstable molecules and free radicals that can damage the structure of our cells. Did you know that blueberries have the highest antioxidant capacity out of all the common fruits and vegetables? This antioxidant capacity also helps stop oxidized LDL (the bad cholesterol) from occurring, which is ...a process that occurs in heart disease. A research article in The Journal Of Nutrition, found that a daily dose of 50 grams of blueberries lowered obese participants LDL oxidation levels by 27% after an eight- week period.
