24.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week, we, as Engineers Without Borders UQ Student Chapter value deeply. Always Was, Always Will Be. This week and every other day of the year, we wish to acknowledge and thank the Jagera and Turrbal Peoples as Traditional Owners of the Land on which EWB uses for our events, activities, learning, meetings and work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. For us, this week is a week of celebrating, educating and remembering the past - high...lighting into the present. 24.01.2022 Pat and Sakoon are our wonderful Regioneering Coordinators this year! As regioneering coordinators, they are in charge of adapting the School Outreach workshops that are run at uni, and taking them on the road! Their main responsibilities are organising and preparing these trips, which consists of liaising with schools, planning and logistics, securing funding, training presenters and more! Pat and Sakoon also work heavily with Charlotte and Aira (our SO Coordinators), so ens...ure that workshop presenters are as well trained as they can be! Pat is in his penultimate year of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, and he is interested in seeing how engineering skills and knowledge can be applied to communities of all calibres across the globe! During isolation he spent his time honing his skills in brewing, baking and gardening. Sakoon studies Civil Engineering, and ultimately enjoys it because of how rewarding the end product is! She is also the SO Coordinator for the EWB QLD Chapter (2020 - 2021). This year she has spent her free time reading, drawing and writing poetry and has also learned Adobe Photoshop! EWB Highlight It’s hard to narrow it down, since EWB has allowed me to travel to places I never thought to travel to, and allowed me to meet people I would have otherwise not gotten to meet. Some highlights would include National Council 2019, in Sydney and travelling to the Torres Strait last November was also pretty wild. Six days, six plane trips, eight boat trips, 500ish students and the most beautiful place on earth. Words wouldn't do it justice. - Patrick EWB Volunteer Games night’s, going to schools in Logan for Science Week and conducting the workshops there have to be my highlights! Currently, I am also in talks with Griffith to get EWB going there too. Working with EWB has been very rewarding! - Sakoon Nominate for a position here: https://tinyurl.com/y5hb9df2

21.01.2022 Some more happy snaps from our venture with the Women in Engineering team! Loved seeing our floating house workshop on the road. When’s the next one... Watch this space for more school outreaches to come!

20.01.2022 With our upcoming AGM after the mid semester break, we thought it would be the perfect time to get to know your 2020 executive team! Over the next few weeks we will be sharing profiles of your fabulous 2020 executive team with you. First up - Keshav, the 2020 President! ... Keshav’s primary focus is for the chapter to grow, not merely in numbers but in its influence and types of opportunities it provides students to explore a more value-based engineering career. To that end he engages with EWB National as well as other societies on campus to help build this culture. Keshav studies a dual degree in Software Engineering and Economics. Keshav likes how his degree challenges him and gives him tools to two fundamental ‘systems’ that influence the quality of our lives and our freedom to live it fulfillingly. He also highly highly recommends Fleabag, Barry and Mr Robot (so that he would finally have people to talk about them with). EWB Highlight Nepal Design Summit 2018: Embracing village life for five days under the wings of a Ghorka veteran who’s stories of endurance and tiger mating calls terrifying unbeknownst tourists kept the chill from the Himalayas from reaching our chest. It was a backdrop that’s telling of people’s - especially young people’s - proclivity to persevere and find happiness. Nominate for a position here: https://tinyurl.com/y5hb9df2

20.01.2022 It’s time to meet our trusty treasurer Tom! Tom has the very important job of ensuring we have enough money for pizza at our events (amongst other things), and is a fourth year civil engineering student. Tom gravitated towards civil largely because of his interest in major infrastructure - in particular, he enjoys seeing how infrastructure can come into fruition from just a concept! When he’s not busy with EWB and uni, Tom enjoys podcasts such as the Joe Rogan Experience.... EWB Highlight Women in Engineering x EWB regioneering road trip to Toowoomba in 2019! It was an awesome experience meeting students from those areas Nominate for a position here: https://tinyurl.com/y5hb9df2

19.01.2022 Take a break and get creative - our merch design comp closes next Monday 7th September @11.59pm!

17.01.2022 Meet Amy, our wonderful secretary! Amy is the ‘secret’ link between our exec team and our members, and she is the one behind most of the emails and social media posts to you! Amy is in her third year of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and loves travelling - in particular she loves capturing pictures of unique structural designs and skylines. She is interested in learning about the social, economic and environmental influences on these designs, which is why she loves ...studying civil engineering! She is a big foodie and (unrelated) loves dogs. EWB Highlight Definitely the Humanitarian Design Summit - Cambodia in February 2020! Honestly, a life changing experience, and one of the best experiences of my life! Nominate for a position here: https://tinyurl.com/y5hb9df2

15.01.2022 Meet Trish, our amazing Vice President! Trish is responsible for overseeing all the EWB events held at uni, as well as the internal organisation of the club - which can involve optimising existing systems or paving the way for new ventures. On top of her role, she also provides a helping hand to the other coordinators when needed and fosters student engagement and a sense of community spirit. Superstar Trish is also in her final year of a dual Mech/Aero and Physics degree, ...and has found it interesting and fun! This dynamic School Outreach Coordinator duo work together to train up volunteers, set up all the workshops and more! Charlotte is in her third year of a dual degree, majoring in Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Geographical Science. One of her favourite aspects of her degree is the diver...sity of it, and the range of areas you can work in. In particular, Charlotte is interested in sustainability and humanitarian engineering. In her spare time she likes to cook and play with her dog - which are luckily two of her favourite things! Aira is in her final year of Electrical Engineering and is also a Women in Engineering Student Leader! She was drawn to electrical as she had always enjoyed the courses and loves the diversity of projects in the field. Aira loves to bake EWB Highlight Cambodia Design Summit in December 2019!
