16.01.2022 This just came in, a great resource for Educators and assisting families and children with the Bushfire crisis.

16.01.2022 Exceed and Kate are a collection point for the following items for Central Coast Disaster Relief: For the Firey's we are taking items including; eye drops, eye wipes, burn gel/cream saline solution, antibacterial wipes, lip balm, blistex balm, paw paw ointment, hydralyte, super duper ice blocks, throat lozenges & berrocca etc. *Any notes or pictures from children to lift the spirits would also be very appreciated to take up to these amazing men & women! ... We are also a drop off point for Christmas gifts for children & youth aged 0-18, it would be appreciated if these are not too large in size, are wrapped & labelled with gender & age - nothing that requires batteries or power please as many families are in tents or may have limited access to power. There are 2 drop off points: Exceed Child Care Training, Fountain Plaza, Erina between 9-3 weekdays (email or PM Kate first please [email protected]) & at Kates home in Long Jetty after 4.30 and weekends. Please PM for details. It would be most appreciated if you could drop these off to us, we will not be able to pick up from you unless you are close by. Many thanks for your kind generosity!

08.01.2022 When the 9/11 tragedy occured I read a post that explained a strategy on how to help young children deal with the frightening aspects of the event, it always stuck with me as a very practical way for us Educators & Parents to help children deal with tragedy & frightening situations. It was along the lines of ' look for the bravery & good in the people who are helping' look for & see the kindness, the courageous, the heroes, the helpers. With the frightening devastation of homes lost, lives lost & injured wildlife occuring through NSW, QLD right now and it being on every media outlet, children are scared, upset, saddened & worried. Show them the positive side of community banding together, involve them in assisting the community and they will feel more empowered than frightened & learn resilience & empathy rather than fear.

08.01.2022 Useful upcoming free workshops on Digital Safety & Wellbeing for Educators working in OOSH or Preschool age groups - The information can be adapted for the younger age groups and used for parent information. https://www.esafety.gov.au//teacher-professional-learning-

06.01.2022 2020 has certainly been challenging for us all, but more so for the children who have been stuck in dangerous situations due to the various lockdowns throughout the country. NSW had their own share of lockdown and along with business closures and job losses, the home stresses run high. There were reports of a 75% increase in Domestic Violence and online child abuse and exploitation as children were spending more time in dangerous home environments and also online. Within our CHCPRT001 and Refresher we are the only providers that we know of that comprehensively cover online risks within our Child Protection Course. To book the Accredited course, a Refresher or a group workshop, email Kate directly at [email protected] https://www.abc.net.au//child-sexual-exploitation/12648260

02.01.2022 Hi Educators! We are part of the Central Coast Disaster Relief group on Facebook which is coordinating donations to be sent to the families and individuals who have lost their homes and everything in it, those who have been evacuated and for the courageous women and men who are fighting the fires in extreme conditions. For the Fireys’ and Animals Small tubes of Paw Paw ointment, lip balm/Blistex, saline solution, Visine/eye drops/eye wipes, burn gel/cream, antiseptic cream..., aloe vera gel, betadine, hydralyte sachets or iceblocks. Small tubes/bottles are best as Fireys and animal recuse folk can easily put in their pockets/backpacks and these are less likely to be cross contaminated. If you are able to assist in any way please go to the Central Coast Disaster Relief facebook page. You don't have to be on the Central Coast, we have people donating from rural areas and other States. Not only are everyday items needed but also many of these people have lost everything and Christmas is just around the corner, if you would like to gather donations of Christmas gifts for children who have been displaced please label with the age and gender and make contact so that we can arrange pick up from you. Morale is also very important and if your children would like to draw a picture or write a morale boosting note to the Fireys’ or the people who have been evacuated or displaced we will also take these up to lift the spirits of those affected. These beautiful messages from children are as good as a real life hug!! and they will be greatly appreciated. We hope you are all keeping safe and please contact myself for any donations of children's Christmas presents and artwork/letters for the Fireys' or the above group for inquiries of drop off locations for goods or a guideline on what is currently needed. Stay safe everyone. Kate & the Exceed Team
