15.01.2022 Young Reader Review -14yo Even if you can’t relate directly to the Woman in this story & her pain, all can find some type of comfort in this book Self esteem is formed long before the teenage years - messages both positive & negative are absorbed consciously & subconsciously. Translucent War dares to confront head on that nagging cynical self talk. It beautifully challenges any lies we may have believed & offers options to to see ourselves from an optimistic & worthy vie...w. 13.01.2022 #Repost @drjoshuawolrich with @make_repost CW: weight loss/fasting This conversation comes off the back of the fact that Tim Spector (a fantastic genetic epidemiologist) appeared on TV today and told the nation that breakfast makes people put on weight. More of us with influence need to speak out vocally against stuff like this so I don’t always have to come across as the ‘bad guy that’s picking on people’.... If you are someone that doesn’t normally eat breakfast - that’s fine. You don’t need to start for the sake of it. If however you are someone who DOES normally eat breakfast and you now think you have to stop please don’t. To start with, and most importantly, we need to stop thinking weight gain is something that has to be avoided in the first place. Fat = bad. To address it specifically, it’s not surprising that skipping a whole meal that you would have otherwise had is going to reduce the amount of energy you have that day. That isn’t groundbreaking. There was once a thought at one point that by missing a meal you would compensate the rest of the day and end up eating more, but research has shown that in general, that’s not really the case (PMID: 30700403). If you want to give you body a slightly longer period of time overnight between meals in the pursuit of health (which recent evidence suggests might be the case), then have dinner a bit earlier if you have the capacity to. Don’t use that as an excuse to miss meals. To recap: the ‘MaGiCaL dIsCoVeRy’ that avoiding eating reduces energy intake is NOT justification for telling the nation that eating breakfast makes you fat. STOP IT. Yet again, potential eating disorder behaviours are being spun as tactics for weight loss. The weight we live at is a result of over 100 different complex factors and can’t be boiled down to flipping breakfast. You’d think an epidemiology of all people would understand that. Stop ignoring both the impact that people’s relationship with food has on their overall health and the fact that food is more than just fuel in order to capitalise off the public’s fear of pandemic-related weight gain and increase book sales. 07.01.2022 Reader Review ‘I recommend this book if you need some clarity with self talk. Often when we are told things as a child by someone in authority eg relative/school teacher/carer we can take this as gospel if it is critical or downgrading we can believe it % and carry that voice for years. We unknowingly give power to those words & a person/people we may not have seen for multiple decades. Translucent War is empathetic yet confronts our belief systems and gives us opportuni...ty to upgrade what we inherently think of ourselves’ **the lie was deafening without making a sound** Translucent War by Amanda Long available@ www.exchangeconsultancy.com.au www.amazon.com.au www.amazon.com https://books.apple.com/au/book/translucent-war/id1492441766 #someonelikeme #translucentwar #loveisable
