24.01.2022 Over a period of years, Extent Heritage has been engaged to provide cultural heritage and archaeological services to inform the renewal of Queen Victoria Market (QVM), a place included on the National Heritage List partly for its role as the Old Melbourne Cemetery. Our involvement has included the management of both historical and Aboriginal heritage values. With regards to Aboriginal cultural heritage, the site is particularly significant for containing the remains of Abori...ginal people from across Victoria and Tasmania (and perhaps from elsewhere). 19.01.2022 With the Covid travel restrictions weighing heavily on some of us, we thought it would be fun to huddle around an atlas (in a pretend sort of way), and look at all the parts of the world our team have worked in. The Extent team are also thinking of our friends and colleagues in lockdown in Victoria. Hang in there folks! #GreaterExtent

15.01.2022 Have you been to Cockatoo Island in NSW? Party of its history includes being a convict penal settlement where hard labour saw the construction of a dock by convicts who had to excavate 580,000 cubic feet of rock - that would fill nearly 7 Olympic swimming pools...and they weren't using excavators! There are many more stories to be told for our First Nations People, students at the Reform schools and those working in the Maritime era. ... https://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/en/ #GreaterExtent #WorldHeritage

13.01.2022 We see some gorgeous sites. Clifford House is a substantial 1860s masonry building and is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. Whilst it's been extensively refurbished internally, the exterior remains largely intact, retaining its quality as a substantial residence in a picturesque garden setting. It's associated with the life and work of the Hon. James Taylor, who played a prominent role in the development of Toowoomba from the 1850s. Extent Heritage is engaged to un...dertake a heritage impact assessment for the addition of a new building to the subdivided rear allotment, which is part of the heritage curtilage for Clifford House. #GreaterExtent

09.01.2022 Did you know Bondi Beach is on the National Heritage List? Not only is it one of the most famous beaches in the world, but it was here where Australia's first recognised surf lifesaving club was founded in 1907 and the Surf Life Saving movement continued to spread across NSW and then across the country. 02.01.2022 Did you know that Port Arthur has been a popular tourist site since it closed as a penal station? The penal colony was fully abandoned in October 1877, and on Boxing Day the same year, a day excursion to Port Arthur was offered. Over 900 visitors crowded the ship in Hobart, with hundreds more left at the wharf unable to secure a place on board. During the excursion, there were multiple acts of destruction and vandalism, caused either by mindless acts by tourists or purposef...ul destruction by old inmates. Info shared by Dr Jennifer Jones-Travers from our Tasmanian office. Thanks for the photo https://www.instagram.com/caroline_harpertravels/ #GreaterExtent #PortArthurHistoric #Tasmania
