25.01.2022 Iso online studio 2.0 Lockdown and remote learning has felt quite gruelling this time around, more so than before, a heaviness that is unexplainable...exhaustion, apathy...I've forgotten so much primary maths it would seem (handball that to the engineer of the family @gippslandsurveyors) Nonetheless, family time has been nice and redecorating this cute space has refreshed a tired soul! What is keeping you inspired over lockdown? Or if nothing, can we inspire eachother with suggestions?
24.01.2022 Welcome news yesterday for the regional VIC indoor sport/recreation industries regarding children! As of Nov 1, many of us can function or run at better capacity I have a few spots available in Rhythm Kids (Kinder age only) to end this year with a bang! The class is 9.15am Friday's. Our term 4 collection 'Kangaroo' has a heavy Indigenous Australian influnence-just beautiful It's high energy, excellent quality and rhythmic fun on Djembe drums!... If this sounds like you and you have a kinder kid crawling the walls eager for the next educational step ( I have one too!) or has missed socialising with friends DM or email [email protected] #youcantstopthemusic #earlymusiceducation #australianmusic #fiddlesticks
23.01.2022 Tickets still available to this online event! Book now to avoid disappointment, it will be a great evening in the comfort of your home, no babysitters required-bonus!
23.01.2022 Sometimes, despite what is going on around you, stop for a minute and hold them and just love them. Hope everyone is going ok this weekend
21.01.2022 I learnt a great term from a good friend the other day, 'Co-regulate'. I love it, because it helps to define what we do every single session at Fiddlesticks. As parents, carers and teachers we cannot expect children to regulate their own emotions, without having this role-modelled first. It has been such a challenge for children re-entering their community after isolation to learn and relearn these skills. How do we do it? Connecting through relationship and a warm environmen...t. We name those emotions racing through their bodies and get to their eye level to see and validate feelings. Strategies and calming tools like slow breathing, humming, listening, sensory play within our space allows parents and children the time to do this. Why is this so important in a music class? Because music evokes our emotional being and moving to it stimulates both the body AND brain simultaneously. This requires a balance of higher order thinking and time to process a human response. Here you are supported in teaching your children strategies for life! #coregulation #selfregulation #emotionalintelligence #musicandemotions #musiceducation #musictogether #inclusivelearning #artsbuildcommunity #bawbawshire #bawbawartsalliance #creativegippsland #creativevictoria #regionalartsvictoria #regionalartsaustralia #fiddlesticks
21.01.2022 How amazing are these little musicians? This is one of our kinder violin groups in action. It's delightful to be in the studio again, I love watching just how clever they are! 4-5 years is really on target to move to the next step of music training, transferring and reproducing sounds onto instruments. Actively engaging in music stimulates the brain and has been proven to enhance neurological development and promote higher order thinking. Especially from a young age, when gr...owing so rapidly, music activates the brain creating greater, stronger left to right brain pathways...this means more efficient learning and thinking! There's so much more involved than just producing the sounds that greet our ears! Term 3, (all remaining well) will present more opportunities for our 4-5yr age bracket. Let's say, Fiddlesticks is growing up Stay tuned #earlychildhoodmusic #musiceducationaustralia #earlychildhooddevelopment #violin #rhythmkids #musictogether #neurologicaldevelopment #languagedevlopment #bawbawshire #bawbawartsalliance #regionalartsvictoria #regionalartsaustralia
20.01.2022 It's pony day tomorrow, but we're still gonna play! Our Tuesday sessions will still be on. Bring your hats, weather is perfect for tunes in the sun

16.01.2022 My little community, are you ok? Many of you know, I dislike token social media bandwagon posts but this one is worth promoting, especially this year. Lockdown is hard, it's exhausting, little one's don't understand...we've all had our support networks snapped away, our days carrying extra responsibility and burden. I see you parents and carer's working so hard through our online classes, there is little relief. You're all on my heart today. I can't wait until regional are...as get some relief and we can get back to getting our groove on in the studio! Watching you all support eachother in life and parenting is one of my favourite and most missed things to watch, it's so important for our mental health Are you doing OK? Please reach for professional help at https://www.ruok.org.au/findhelp or if you simply need to offload, send a DM, chat, whatever, you are safe here. You're not alone Gary Blackwood MP #ruokday2020 #whatstheplandan #workingmum #remotelearning #musiceducation #musictogether #inclusivelearning #artsbuildcommunity #bawbawshire #bawbawartsalliance #creativegippsland #creativevictoria #regionalartsvictoria #regionalartsaustralia #fiddlesticks
16.01.2022 'What's your favourite thing to eat?' We've started the term off with a song in our mixed ages class which initiates simple conversation, an everyday and important social skill. The constant use of role play allows children to develop their language skills in a fun and playful way. This is the age where it is all happening, the first 6-7years of life establish our neurological pathways and blueprint for life! You don't need fancy props, set up a play restaurant or shop with ...things from the pantry. They'll love the one on one time and little (and big) siblings love to watch and play along too! I've LOVED watching our younger class members eyes light up when we sang about Ice-cream this week What is your favourite thing to eat? Have chat with your family and we'll sing about it next week! #playmatters #playbasedlearning #socialskills #languagedevelopment #musiceducation #musictogether #inclusivelearning #artsbuildcommunity #bawbawshire #bawbawartsalliance #creativegippsland #creativevictoria #regionalartsvictoria #regionalartsaustralia #fiddlesticks

13.01.2022 So excited for this collaboration with my long time friend Trish from @plantedparenting She is an amazing Occupational Therapist, highly qualified and experienced, who specializes in children. We frequently talk about helping our children through their emotions at Fiddlesticks, they are simply learning how to process and understand the way they feel...but not everyday goes to plan! There is such conflicting advice to parents in how to 'handle' their children and some of it... is down right ugly and damaging. Such a hole in positive support for parents for this day to day stuff. I contacted Trish because I wanted better stratagies for my own children and then had another thought...it's not just me, let's open this up, because it is ALL of us. Everyone is trying to navigate this stuff. Trish is someone I trust, she builds up and encourages and yet is completely practical in her approach. Absolutely no judgement and being a mum herself she already 'gets it'. SO, Fiddlesticks community, grab this and tag any of your friends, this is available to you. It's via Zoom (which we are pros at now ), no babysitters needed, pop the kids into bed, log in with your fav beverage and let's tackle this! WED 5 August8pm $35 (bargain!) 12.01.2022 Ooooh, it's been so good to be back inside the studio this week! Outside will continue for those glorious, sunny drumming in the street days, it's so nice to now have the choice. Online also remains for those who need or cannot attend due to illness. Somehow, through all the mess of COVID this small biz has ended up with 3 physical, usable creative spaces Redirected paths (although slightly painful ) can sometimes lead to something better hey?!... #cantstopthemusic #inside #outside #online #defyinggravity #staysafe #staypositive See more
12.01.2022 'Rhythm Kids' are having a paint jam today! Bring your smock/old shirt as we make beautiful art whilst pumping some tunes and singing our regular repertoire. Kids (especially 3-5yrs) are visibly craving physical sensory output for those big end of year emotions...new schools, going off to kinder, re-socialising after lockdowns, holding it (or not?! ) together till the holidays. The cure? Let them get messy, add a little water, crank up the music and shake it all off! Perfect for a Friday!
12.01.2022 It's amazing to watch the children so eagerly respond to our collection of beautiful Indigenous instruments through this week. I feel so incredibly proud of what the children are achieving both as musicians and also as young human beings Have a wonderful weekend folks! ... #australianmusic #naidocweek #earlychildhoodeducation See more
11.01.2022 It's tough times on small businesses, but there is still plenty going on at Fiddlesticks We're still in operation, just smaller classes than usual to keep our studio COVID safe! Here's the timetable for our signed up families to refer to x2 spots in the Wednesday 9.15am class available for any prospect families, just email [email protected] to express your interest!
10.01.2022 Chugga chugga chugga choo choooo! The why behind what we do ...because there ALWAYS is! Trains, galloping ponies, revving engines, they all have a constant driving pulse that is naturally and innately felt by the smallest of children. The rhythmic pulse of swaying inside mum's belly whilst walking, it is inbuilt whilst in utero!... It is the basis of language development, forming natural rhythms in our sentences, MOVING our bodies to it stimulates the vestibular system. This aids to develop many connections in the brain, right up to the age of 7...and beyond that it can even HEAL or help rewire the pathways after trauma or developmental delay. Actively (i.e. doing, not just watching on a device) practising, moving the tongue and lips upon simple vocables can help with speech development. Sing and rhyme with your kids daily. Also, it's a FUN and low pressure environment to explore. As always, deep deep learning is occuring through play. TOOT TOOT!

08.01.2022 THIS! Great for our remote learning school age friends. Go have a look, too good not to share
06.01.2022 Folks, I still stand by play based learning and it's not just for babies. This school remote learning business has me teaching my own kids in rigid, tick boxes, sitting down, stuck behind screens which is so alien to me! Big kids need to play too. Ofcourse I'm realistic, there is a place for grammar, formulas and numbers, that's called building skills, goal related, teacher lead learning. To take those skills to the next level and be creative with them, to experiment with th...eir form and function is where learning becomes a personal experience and internalised. This is Einstein with equations, it's Mozart with a music stave, it's Pavlova with years working at the ballet barre. The Arts again have had massive funding set backs with COVID and we have even more work to do now to ensure that creative and critical thinking does not disappear from the next generations, especially in the school curriculum around Australia! We simply cannot successfully enage children in their learning without it! Thankyou for supporting Fiddlesticks at this time. I feel really grateful that I have so many within my community who already share this vested interest and understand the importance of all of this already! 'Play on' everyone, play on! #musicthelanguageoflove #playon #playbasedlearning #playmatters #itswinetimemum #musiceducation #educationaustralia #scrapNAPLAN #inclusivelearning #artsbuildcommunity #bawbawshire #bawbawartsalliance #creativegippsland #creativevictoria #regionalartsvictoria #regionalartsaustralia #fiddlesticks

06.01.2022 Righto! Grab your ukes, djembes and fiddles, have a jam on the porch with your family or put on your class CD and play along! Would LOVE to see your stories if you like to share! https://m.facebook.com/events/600806137490598
04.01.2022 Kids keeping it real...today was one of those teaching days where I was reminded to capture, not hinder children's creativity! We learn the skills here, but at the end of the day, sometimes the class game plan has to completely go out of the window and follow their lead! The only thing that goes through my teacher brain is, 'Who am I to tell you how to be creative?'...and for some reason, when we let go of OUR expectations on them, it can be simply the most marvelous time fo...r everyone! Meanwhile, what is it with children and windy days? It always brings out the best, right? RIGHT? #keepitreal #playbasedlearning #childleadlearning #nomorejumpingjosie #mamaneedsanap
02.01.2022 For all those sessions they just want to be held or carried you're doing a great job grown-ups
