25.01.2022 Last night was intense. We had a great time chatting live with directors, following comments and watching great films in a proper manner on YT and Loops Facebook page at the beginning. Around the middle of the screening some short films got treated badly. Precisely, it became an awful experience past the 37th minute when the livestream started skipping and we then got kicked out of YT twice seemingly over a film that had ran flawlessly in the rehearsal the day before. We end...ed up on Twitch with amazing films playing for the second half and nearly all directors still present for a live interview. It was a 2 hour screening done in 3 hours. If you couldnt stay past the dead zone in the middle have a look at these: Its not Filmonik without a Haiku or two, send us yours for next month. 17 seconds of fun from Andrew Cullimore. https://youtu.be/Se5qCG34Hiw Next, watch Murray Enders Sharehouse film in 4K https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XItQ6RgbXIg Check out Mat Johns mad quarantine film "Company" https://vimeo.com/404668191 Not Melbourne-based but close to Filmonik Manchester so its all good. You can catch Dean Kytes vision of an Abbotsford icon here: https://vimeo.com/383398101 Then jump to John Klaics sleazy poolside short that we had to initially reject (skin skin skin) but finally got to screen when we were out of YT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tjyt8Ue39I The two Freds Kino Caen Kabaret film (Frdrique Renda and Frdric Radepont) was an incredible quarantine film gathering thousands of views already. You can see the subtitled version in the stream here at the 23rd minute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tisZwmpKLGk&t=23m0s Watch Sean Hellends Dead of Night here: https://vimeo.com/354461517 Mhairi McIntyre is changing her habits during quarantine (maybe...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DmAC_nQoy0 And we saw short films from Leslie Pain, Sarah Hamilton, Andrew Cullimore, Obi Herron, Olivier Bonenfant, BJ Hill, Joe Magee, Felix Morreo, Chad Lockwood and Craig Rossiter. Well post about those films when they pop up online on their respective directors accounts.

23.01.2022 Join us online next Tuesday 8pm for the Filmonik #74 live stream. Short films, live filmmaker interviews, live chat and a couple of Melb Fringe suggestions. https://www.facebook.com/events/619197168747412 These are just some of the films you'll see.

20.01.2022 This Monday night, the Filmonik team is visiting Kino Sydney with "Wild as", our 2019 effort that enjoyed a nice Halloween festival run at Monsterfest (Trasharama), Sunshine FF, Sydney Indie FF, POP FF, and screenings in Singapore, Montreal and the USA. Its all online Monday 8pm in the confort of your living room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-Tff2qATBM And you know what, the Filmonik+KinoSydney haiku compilation is also in the program (shorter, but still as insane). Make noise in the chat, lets make this one as fun live as it can be.

17.01.2022 Its the last weekend of the Kubicles collab short film before wrapping all the segments together so if you want a prompt assigned to you to film short and fun segment this weekend pop up in the FB Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/619977862255449/ Kino Sydney #152 is next Monday and I think theyre still open for short film submissions. 17.01.2022 Indie short film livestreams from Melbourne 2 days ago, Singapore yesterday, Saint Petersburg at 2am tonight and Kino Sydney May 4. The Saint Petersburg one is not a monthly screening but a worldwide best-of of shorts made during Kino Kabaret events. Melbourne-based Murray Enders made it to the program to represent Filmonik with his 2019 Kabaret film The Blue Man. This trailer shows the goods: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5paOG42CqlY... 2am tonight Aus (AEST) time, with replay probably available after (we hope). See more

17.01.2022 The Kino Sydney online screening is tomorrow May the 4th (be with you). Fun teaser.

16.01.2022 Tonight is the premiere of Covid Creatives - The Documentary. Filmonik Melbourne played a vital supporting role in production and a few of our team will be there LIVE to introduce the project. See you there.

15.01.2022 Our November monthly event is To-Be-Announced. Our default format is still live-streaming but the easing of restrictions on Nov 22 could allow us to be back in a live venue. A lot would need to fall into place extremely quickly for it to happen in November. We need your input and filmmakers to announce their plans via a reply here, private message or email asap if you are part of one of these 3 scenarios. 1. You'll send a short film before Nov 30 for a live-stream. You're hap...py to contribute to a last live-stream or in-person screening, whatever comes. 2. You're waiting for Filmonik to be back in a live venue and are not interested in live-streams. Reserve a spot now for the comeback screening. 3. Only 1 short film was submitted this month so far so what if we had instead a hilarious Nov 30 live-stream of awkward first works by known filmmakers. A special roast screening; live streamed once with no replay available. Would you enter a film?

15.01.2022 The next Filmonik livestream is in 10 days with 2 weekends left to finalise your piece if youre making something new. Short film submissions by Victorian filmmakers will be accepted until 4pm Monday 29 but send asap to reserve a spot. We cant wait to see you all again in a real space but were still far from it so just throw Filmonik #71 on your TV or your computer and enjoy the company at home.

14.01.2022 Attention all short film makers! The next Filmonik open-screen, livestream is only 7 days away, with just 1 weekend left to finalise your new work. Submit your film ASAP to reserve your spot. https://filmonik.com.au/submit-your-film

14.01.2022 In the Filmonik #71 livestream the interview for the feature doco The Worlds Best Film was around 5 minutes but we recorded over 11 minutes. https://www.facebook.com/theworldsbestfilm/videos/194258572023192/

14.01.2022 Were not skipping a month. Filmonik will be back Wednesday September 30th. Well need a few more short films to make it a full, rounded, evening so submit your short now or let us know via PM if youll be submitting so we can plan accordingly: https://filmonik.com.au/submit-your-film/ Meanwhile Kino Sydney is on tonight with their screening no.153! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIUAW2TLDP4

14.01.2022 The crazy video Haikus and Kubicles are collective short films each with over 20 participants. You probably caught both when they premiered during Filmonik #70 and #72 but the films are due to stand on their own and be readily accessible in higher quality than before; 1080p for Kubicles and glorious 4K for the Haikus. Kubicles: https://youtu.be/QQAGHIlDGyg Haikus: https://youtu.be/ATOv3MOdAY4... Find someone who hasnt seen one or both.

13.01.2022 Covid Creatives, the Documentary at Melbourne Fringe (Pants Off) https://melbournefringe.com.au//covid-creatives-the-docum/ This is a passion project by Filmonik Melbourne's newest board member, Andrew Cullimore, who has started dialogues with over 60 creatives. Each conversation lasted an average of 30 minutes and therefore he has created a 50 minute colourful collage from 30 hours of Zoom recordings. The energy and enthusiasm of these talented creatives, who continue to a...dapt their craft through the changing rules of 2020, really is unprecedented. Inspired by our monthly screenings this one off streaming will feature an intriguing LIVE element along with LIVE CHAT. Suggested ticket price $5. Digital Event - Wheelchair Access PG - Parental Guidance recommended for under 15 years Produced by: Cullimore Creations In Association With: Filmonik Melbourne This is a unique insight into the lives of some interesting and extremely diverse creatives, including actors, filmmakers, cruise ship entertainers and a whole lot more. Through a series of interviews with artists impacted by the pandemic, we see the reality of a creative living through Covid-19. Can they adapt and remain optimistic? Warning: Contains potentially triggering content or themes, including ZOOM RECORDINGS & COVID-19/Coronavirus

12.01.2022 A little teaser from Andrew Cullimore's documentary, COVID CREATIVES - THE DOCUMENTARY premiering this Tuesday at 6:30pm.

12.01.2022 Hi everyone, this is a call-out for the first of two Filmonik collective projects launching this month and to be screened/live streamed at the next Filmonik screening in August. For the first project were looking for actors, actresses, filmmakers, and anyone with an interest in short films to participate by creating a 20 to 60 second segment, shot on any device. Its a concept fit for lockdown and youll be required to film in a windowless and doorless corner of your home. O...verall it is a science-fiction concept with plenty of space and opportunity to drift in and out of comedy, experimental or any other genre. Add yourself to this group if you want to participate and get a time slot assigned. https://www.facebook.com/groups/619977862255449/ The full short film information is in this document: https://docs.google.com//1gHYwzG0L7kPH9PPpxop3aDekR0-cJTR/

11.01.2022 You may have noticed that we dont have a livestream date for July and its normal. Were preparing a special Filmonik #72 livestream on Tuesday August 25. The truth is less iso short films are being made for immediate premiere and some directors are patiently sitting on their bigger projects to premiere in front of a live audience in a venue, as long as it may take. If you have a short film under 5 min dont hesitate; we are open for submissions for August: https://filmonik.com.au/submit-your-film/. And if youre looking for a fun challenge or creative boost we have started the Kubicles collective project and its coming along nicely. Add yourself to the group to get updates, information and to participate any time you want from now to August 15. https://www.facebook.com/groups/619977862255449/

11.01.2022 Fun fact: Filmoni is a portmanteau of the word Film and oniK(Kino in reverse). Kino is the german word for cinema and the international community we belong to. #kino #cinema Kino Montral.

10.01.2022 Wrap-up post: thanks everyone for watching Filmonik #70 and participating. It was fun and the full replay is available here: www.facebook.com/loopmelbourne/videos/667065644149291 or on YT to watch with the live replay comments: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERUWG59VlYQ Some films popped up online in higher resolution: - Tim Gardner | Interview With A Silent Man www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2QfAaizjRo... - Chad Lockwood | Tonight report Dr Ron www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-fS-sPBG-I - Mat Johns | Dazs World of Birds: Episode 1 www.vimeo.com/409459301 and you can watch Ep2 and 3 here: www.vimeo.com/413886901, www.vimeo.com/418519906 - Zac Fleiszig and Gid Goldberg | An Isolated Situation www.vimeo.com/414794305 Well post the other films as we spot them (Haiku compilation in 4K anyone?). A couple of months back we watched together the trailer for Nour, the story of a refugee girl fleeing the Syrian conflict. You can now watch the 14 min film here: www.vimeo.com/388873510 Thankfully with social restrictions easing we should have someone assigned as cameraman for Filmonik #71 (what a luxury in social distancing times), maybe a new set and hopefully have some* directors in person. Stay tuned, submit shorts, dont hesitate if you have comments and suggestions and watch the updates on our page.

10.01.2022 Feel like traveling with short films again tonight? Kino Red Dot in Singapore is proposing its monthly screening online tonight at 10pm AEST

10.01.2022 The Kino Movement was created in 1999 by a bunch of filmmakers who shot and screened a short film every month leading up to the Y2K bug. When we tell this story in Filmonik intros we often forget how Y2K/the year 2000 can be completely off the radar for younger people in the audience (for good reason). Internet Historian has the funniest recap of the Y2K bug and why the coverage of it was sometime so gloomy that it led to filmmakers jokingly making their "last films" in the months leading to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-StyszRCzc

09.01.2022 In 8 days were back online with the 70th Filmonik screening. Have you made anything new in isolation? Are you sitting on a festival film that is ready to premiere online? Spots are still available. Submit now or simply join the fun May 26.

07.01.2022 Filmonik #74 is available for replay at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12Y387_k5cw and here are some links to more stuff to watch and do, starting with the Melbourne Fringe suggestions: - Queer @ Cannes, Thursday 19 November 6:00pm https://melbournefringe.com.au/event/queercannes/ - Covid Creatives, Tuesday 17 November 6:30pm... https://melbournefringe.com.au//covid-creatives-the-docum/ - Watch "The Very Near Future" the most acclaimed of the "Very Near Future" films https://vimeo.com/236746650 - Join the Halloween Night Spectacular, a Zoom party / live event led by Chad Lockwood. 07.01.2022 Our next collective challenge on our way out of lockdown is an idea were calling Reverse Team Foley. Each filmmaker will receive an audio file 30-60 seconds in length from another participant and have to then shoot and edit a video to synchronise with the audio. Once audio and video are combined the filmmaker then continues the story by recording 30-60 sec of audio only (no video) and then sends that audio file forward to the next filmmaker or team participating in the chall...enge. Want to know more? Reply here or to [email protected] and well get you up to speed. Filmmakers or teams: 4 to 10 Target premiere: Filmonik #74 October 27 Film name and artwork: TBD based on the themes emerging Cringe codename: Foleymonik

06.01.2022 Missed the show yesterday? Check the replay here: https://youtu.be/cKstN8ySJf8

06.01.2022 Monday night entertainment sorted thanks to Kino Sydney. https://youtu.be/Qvue8aUZprs See you in the live chat. Its their 150th screening. 150!!!!

05.01.2022 Lido have been good to us in 2017-2018 by hosting our Filmonik Kabaret screenings. Now they are throwing together an Isolation Film Festival. The first rule is to make a movie specifically for the festival so make something this weekend for the fest and once its all set and done on their side give your short a second life by submitting it to one of our monthly screenings.

04.01.2022 Our Filmonik Kabaret 2020 dates were booked and locked in. If not for COVID we would have been making and screening 20 to 30 short films this weekend and all next week. We had planned for a 72h filmmaking session Fri Oct 30 to Mon Nov 2 and a longer second session Wed Nov 4 to Sun Nov 8 (96h) with access to the Kinolab throughout. How do you feel about the longer sessions? Last year's recap video for good times: https://fb.watch/1uakKphV49/

04.01.2022 The Kino Montreal 2020 opener and the Filmonik Melbourne team is in it. Blink and youll miss it but were in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh8Eg_-272E
