25.01.2022 One year ago today, the Currowan bushfire which caused so much devastation across our community was ignited. I know today will be a hard day for many people, but I want to remind everyone about the wonderful things we have seen in our community this year as well. I have never been prouder to call the South Coast home. If you are finding today difficult, reach out to Lifeline’s dedicated Bushfire line on 13 43 57.

25.01.2022 I snapped this gorgeous pic in Jamberoo! With everything people have gone through in the last 12 months and more, it’s certainly lovely to see some Christmas cheer! If you have a pic or story you’d like me to share please let me know: [email protected]

24.01.2022 When we asked Captain Jesse from the NSW RFS-Broulee Brigade what he was most proud of this year - his answer without hesitation was the work his amazing team had done. Turning out night after night to do their bit for the community. We are so grateful - thank you to all the team, and all our emergency service workers and volunteers across the coast. Thanks also to Murray Watt - Senator for Queensland, Labor’s Shadow Emergency Management Minister for coming to hear what the locals have to say.

23.01.2022 Fixing the systemic issue of lack of affordable housing on our coast takes leadership. Good policy can begin to help the imbalance that currently exists - that is hurting low income earners, the homeless, young people wanting to enter the housing market and the disadvantaged. Despite the Morrison Government racking up a trillion dollars in debt they’ve neglected affordable housing. Only a Labor Government will begin to seriously address this issue.

23.01.2022 One year on from the bushfire that started it all, bowls are in full swing at Club Malua!

20.01.2022 Out and about in beautiful Kiama chatting with locals, finding out what’s going on. A good start to Friday!

18.01.2022 Always a beautiful day to thank a firie Great to introduce Labor’s Shadow Emergency Management Minister Murray Watt - Senator for Queensland to the wonderful NSW RFS - Batemans Bay Brigade to listen to their stories. Thank you to all our emergency service workers and volunteers for everything you do every day

18.01.2022 I'm always humbled to meet with our local emergency services and hear their stories. Thank you to Malua Bay Rural Fire Brigade and NSW RFS - Conjola Brigade for having me.

17.01.2022 While this year has been tough, it has also brought out the best in us. Our community stepped up in their time of need, and the truth is we have each other and every member of our community to thank for getting us through. I have never been prouder to call the South Coast home.

16.01.2022 It's a never ending story for our hero SES volunteers! Fires, floods, storms and more. Thank you to our SES volunteers and all our emergency services volunteers and workers for keeping us safe.

15.01.2022 Our kids went through so much during the bushfires. This is a really important recount from NSW RFS-Broulee Brigade fire station kid Sienna. Thank you for sharing your story Sienna.

13.01.2022 There’s something special about Jamberoo. Rolling hills, dairy cows , a relaxed pace, a real community feel, but it’s the friendly people always up for a chat I love most This mobile office the perfect start to the weekend.

13.01.2022 Good news for local travel agents The Federal Government has finally announced a package to support local travel agents doing it tough. A one-off grant of between $1500 and $100,000 will be available for eligible travel agents to support them through what has been a terrible year for the industry. Thank you to all the many, many local travel agents who raised this issue with me over the last several months. It absolutely should not have taken this long for the government t...o take your concerns seriously. I will be taking a closer look at the details of this package once it is released and I will always continue to advocate on behalf of our local travel agents and their workers. If you need any help or would like any further information, please get in touch with my office on 4423 1782.

12.01.2022 It’s been a cordial sort of a day! Despite the heat, it was a terrific book launch of ‘Cordial-Makers of the Shoalhaven, and their bottles’ researched and written by Alan Clark and published by the Shoalhaven Historical Society. It’s jam packed with lots of interesting information and pics! Call in to the Nowra Museum and learn more about local cordial makers and see the fantastic display of cordial bottles through the years

11.01.2022 A hot 35 or so degrees on Sunday and I found the Crossroads RFS Brigade enthusiastically training and on stand by in all that heat and wind. Thank you to the Crossroads RFS Brigade for letting me visit and learning more about your experiences with the Currowan fire. It's terrific to see many new members join their local RFS Brigades. Thank you again to all our RFS and emergency services volunteers and workers for all you do to keep our communities safe.

11.01.2022 I called in to see Suzanne and the team at Helloworld Travel Kiama. The travel industry has been hit hard during COVID-19 with border closures significantly impacting business and jobs - while staff continue to work so hard to process refunds and look after local customers. The Federal Government must step in and provide targeted support for travel agents. This is the message I’ll be taking back to Parliament next week. In the meantime, we can all help by booking your next regional holiday through your local travel agent and help support local jobs.

11.01.2022 The Rotary Club of Berry is celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Australia by planting 100 trees at Boongaree, Berry - 100 years...100 trees. Today, school children from Berry Public School and Berry Community Pre-School adopted the trees and gave them a good drink! Thank you to all the members of Berry Rotary and everyone involved. A well thought out intergenerational project....

09.01.2022 Hey Jude, how lovely is The Retro Room Kiama! Lots of locally designed retro pieces by Jude from Hey Jude Designs. Always great finds in Kiama.

05.01.2022 The Kangaroo Valley Community Pump Track is awesome Grand opening today and it was pumping So many kids, big and little, and families. A terrific community project leaving a lasting legacy. Special thanks to David Johnson that never gave up on this dream. And to track builder Shaun O’Connor. And of course to everyone in the community that has donated, supported and made this pump track a reality. May there be many many happy laps.

04.01.2022 Here we are, sitting at the same table where we first met in the weeks after the bushfire. Lovely to catch up with Katrina and Ken again to see the progress of their home rebuild after it was sadly lost on New Years’ Eve. So many harrowing stories and people who are still struggling to get by - but they still have a smile! Truly remarkable resilience.

04.01.2022 Too many heartbreaking stories from locals trapped overseas. The government promised they would be home for Christmas - time is running out. I will not stop advocating for locals and their families.

03.01.2022 Members of the Gerringong and District Historical Society have been working tirelessly towards preserving local history and excitingly getting ready for the move next year into the new Gerringong Historical Museum. Digitising records, new memorabilia, and planning for a very community minded interactive museum. I caught up with members at their end of year Christmas get together. Can’t wait to see the new museum open.

03.01.2022 When I first met Yatte Yattah bee keepers Vince and Maria in the weeks after the bushfires, they told me how they had lost hundreds of bees and they didn’t know how they were going to keep feeding the ones that had survived. It was terrific to see them both in such high spirits today. Vince and his family gave me the grand tour of their bee keeping operation - from this years’ honey, to pollen, wax and more - proudly showing the difference the Federal grants had made to keeping the business going. The strength and resilience in our community one year on is nothing short of inspiring.

02.01.2022 Let’s make them here! #Labor #OnYourSide
