19.01.2022 This article is well worth the read and demonstrates that career firefighters in Tasmania need a substantial kick along to keep some sort of pay parity with their mainland colleagues. The salary levels may look pretty reasonable to a person working a standard day work, Monday to Friday, gig. However it should be noted that these rates include shift penalties for night work performed and weekends forgone all rolled into the salary. While the article correctly highlights some of the reasons that people aspire to the career, they sadly did not touch on the unsocial hours, the higher incidence of cancers and the much higher rate of heart attacks that career firefighters accept along with the job.

18.01.2022 Front page of today's Sunday Tasmanian as well as a pic in the Sunday Examiner is our own LFF Warren Frey. Warren is a man of many parts, a valued member of the UFU Branch Committee of Management, an accomplished photographer who does a lot of the TFS official shots and a career firefighter who gets in where the going is tough. Warren and many others just like him are often exposed to needless risk because of the mindless activities of a few dingbats who bloody ought to know better.

16.01.2022 NEWS BREAK - A third speaker has been added to this event Michael Badcock is a Tasmanian farmer and highly regarded spokesman on agricultural business matters. Michael has held various senior positions within both TGFA and Ausveg including a term as Chair of the Vegetable Council and as an Independent Director, he was named as Australian Rural Leader of the Year in 2016 as a community leader and for excellence in diversification.

15.01.2022 Very welcome additions to the TFS career crews, they will need to run 2 recruit courses per year for the foreseeable future to simply maintain current establishment numbers due to generational turnover within the service. At some point there needs to be a revisiting of the establishment to reflect the complexity of tasks now undertaken by career firefighters in addition to their historical structural firefighting activities.

14.01.2022 Notice of Event change Having considered the increased risk of fire activity in the southern part of Tasmania over the next few days a decision has been taken to postpone the rally, that was to have occurred on Saturday the 1st of February 2020. This is not a decision which has been lightly undertaken. Community safety is paramount and is always at the forefront for the UFU and it's members, we want to have available every possible resource should they be needed due to the already limited and over-stretched resources currently available to TFS. The issues around appropriate resourcing remains a key issue for UFU members, we would like to thank all those UFU and community members who had committed to supporting this event.

04.01.2022 Take the time to read this analysis of the dog's breakfast that is the current funding model of fire services in Tasmania. Mr Ray has nailed it, we need to fix the funding model in order to deliver an appropriately resourced, professional fire service.

04.01.2022 Geoff Hinds - 40 year anniversary

03.01.2022 Smart use of technology coupled with appropriately trained and resourced initial attack teams must be the way to go.

02.01.2022 Nice to see the Simon Pilkington photo getting another run in today's Mercury, the article is well worth the read as it states that climate will define Premier Gutwein's time in the top job.

01.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we record the passing of LFF Robert Bushell in Devonport. Robert had been afflicted with Motor Neuron Disease over the last 3 years or so and passed away at his family home last Monday. Our thoughts are with his wife Charlene and with his children Rachael and Ben. Robert was a respected and dedicated firefighter who will be missed by his work colleagues as well as by his family and friends. Rest in peace LFF Bushell.

01.01.2022 There are a range of views around the value of yet another Royal Commission. This article tells the story, we do not need more commissions, we need to get on with implementing previous recommendations.
