24.01.2022 Have you ever suffered from a sprained ankle? Have you always been slightly weaker on that ankle since the injury? Chances are you havent done enough rehab. Spraining/ rolling/ twisting your ankle often results in one or more ligaments being damaged. It can happen suddenly during sport, falling over something in the street or wearing uncomfortable shoes (e.g. heels that are too high) and often pain is felt immediately and is intense.... After suffering from an ankle injury, its common to return to regular activity when the pain has subsided - but often people complain of always being weaker or more susceptible to ankle injuries on that side. Here are a few tips on what to work at to prevent injuries occurring and reoccurring! 1) BALANCE. Standing on one foot you can begin to see how your balance differs from each side. If you feel comfortable then you can close your eyes to increase the intensity. 2) COORDINATION. You and a partner can help work each others balance and coordination. Place different coloured objects in front, behind and to the side. Stand on one leg and have your partner say the colour they would like you to touch with the toes of your other foot. You can increase the speed to make things harder. Always face the same way and have your elevated leg do all the work. 3) STRENGTH. When in the gym work also work single legged. For example when doing squats or calf raises, do each leg separately. You lifting weight will need to be decreased and each side may vary. It is common for muscle dysfunctions to be disguised when training both legs at the same time. 4) FLEXIBILITY AND SCAR TISSUE. Scar tissue can reduce joint flexibility. This can have a negative effect on the body as it is more rigid than regular ligamentous structures. This means that if you were to roll over on your ankle again then the likelihood of another injury happening is increased as there is no give in the scar tissue. Scar tissue and flexibility can be increase through exercise programmes combined with specific massage techniques. If you would like to find out more then drop us a PM or make a booking through our website.

21.01.2022 Rotator cuff injuries occur most often in people who repeatedly perform overhead motions in their jobs or sports. Examples include painters, carpenters, and people who play baseball or tennis. However, its also very common for people who are inactive to obtain a rotator cuff injury through reaching for things at an unusual angle, such as reaching into the back seat of a car for a bag. The risk of rotator cuff injury also increases with age. Injuries can also occur due your s...leep position - again, particularly as we age. Many people recover from rotator cuff injury with physical therapy exercises that improve flexibility and strength of the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint. Want to know more? Weve got a blog post about it here: https://www.fitlifesportsmassageperth.com.au//How-can-mass

18.01.2022 While aging is inevitable, aging well is not. There are many factors involved in maintaining good physical and mental health as you age, but one of the most important things to consider as you grow older is weight training. Theres some good information in this article!

18.01.2022 "You should sit in nature for 20 minutes a day... unless you're busy, then you should sit for a hour". - Zen saying Last year was certainly a busy one and I was only too happy to have some downtime over the holidays in beautiful Dwellingup. I'm now refreshed and ready to take on 2021!

18.01.2022 People are often confused about the difference between physiotherapy and massage. Which one do you need when you have an injury? Well, the answer can actually be BOTH. The two professions are in some ways very different, but there is certainly some overlap in how patients are treated.... Both physios and remedial massage therapists can prescribe stretches, strengthening exercises, postural training and balance exercises. So how can massage complement physiotherapy? Read our blog post: https://www.fitlifesportsmassageperth.com.au//How-can-reme

18.01.2022 Great rules to live by! We all know that you need to stay hydrated during physical activity, but its worth emphasising this point. Dehydration can impair your mental and physical abilities, and this can easily lead to injury if you lose concentration or control of your body. ... Poor hydration also has a big effect on muscle performance and the ability to carry required nutrients around the body. Our bodies contain connective tissue in and around every muscle and bone, around organs, and its what connects everything to everything else. Dry connective tissue can cause adhesions which limit range of motion - and which in turn can cause injury.

18.01.2022 We often see people whose muscles have shortened because they don't train through a full range of motion. This can have the effect of a) causing long term pain, and/or b) limiting growth or strength. In these photos, Bow demonstrates a bicep curl with correct form and using the full range of motion - one photo at the top of the movement and one at the bottom. ... Always be sure to train through the full range of motion! See more

14.01.2022 Dry needling aids the release of endorphins, which can serve as a natural painkiller. These endorphins are continually released for around 48 hours following treatment. But dry needling isn’t just effective at relieving pain: it also encourages the body to heal and restore itself in response to the presence of the needles. This treatment is fantastic for muscle tension and can also be very successful at relieving other painful manifestations such as headaches and tendonitis. Think you could benefit from a dry needling session? Book your appointment now: https://buff.ly/2Iqf1Wq

13.01.2022 FROZEN SHOULDER While frozen shoulder is commonly missed or confused with a rotator cuff injury, it has a distinct pattern of symptoms resulting in potentially severe shoulder pain, loss of shoulder function and eventually stiffness. In my experience, pain is not always present, but severe restriction of range of movement is a significant problem.... Common issues include: The inability to reach above shoulder height The inability to throw a ball The inability to quickly reach for something The inability to reach behind your back e.g. bra or tuck shirt The inability to reach out to your side and behind. eg reach for seat belt The inability to sleep on your side. Suffering with frozen shoulder? Want to get your range of movement back? Book in with a Fitlife massage therapist here - https://fitlife-sports-massage.cliniko.com/bookings#location

13.01.2022 REMEDIAL MASSAGE If you were to search on Google, youd find a wide range of definitions for remedial massage. We like to think of it as the assessment and treatment of muscle, tendon and fascia dysfunction - that is, we find the original reason for the pain and address both symptoms and cause of the problem.... The goal of remedial massage is to create a favourable environment within the body in order for a patient to heal after injury. You could think of it as giving back the body a blank slate; and reducing/reversing physical injury. Want to learn more? Weve got a blog post that can help you out...

13.01.2022 Warming up your body before any kind of exercise ensures that your muscles are more flexible and less likely to tear. This is especially important in winter, but we recommend doing it all year round. The main benefit of warming down is to stop blood pooling in the lower limbs the fitter you are, the more likely this is to occur because your heart rate goes back to normal so quickly. Want some more tips on how to avoid getting a sporting injury? Read our blog post: https://w...ww.fitlifesportsmassageperth.com.au//Five-ways-to The main benefit of warming down is to stop blood pooling in the lower limbs the fitter you are, the more likely this is to occur because your heart rate goes back to normal so quickly.
