24.01.2022 Automatic 2 month deferral given by ATO for those affected by bushfires in NSW and QLD. The quarterly business activity statement (BAS) that would normally have... been due on 11 November or 28 November for businesses using a tax professional will now be due on 28 January 2020. Monthly BAS lodgers also have an extra two months to lodge and pay, with the ATO automatically extending the due date until 21 January 2020 for the form which would normally have been due on 21 November. The automatic deferrals do not apply to large pay-as-you-go withholders. Individuals in impacted areas who have lodged their 201819 income tax returns and have received a tax payable that would normally be due on 21 November 2019 now have until 21 January 2020 to pay. The 16 government areas where the automatic deferrals have been put in place are as follows: New South Wales: Bellingen Clarence Valley Coffs Harbour Glen Innes Severn Kempsey Inverell Mid Coast Nambucca Port Macquarie-Hastings Richmond Valley Tenterfield Uralla Walcha Queensland: Noosa Livingstone

19.01.2022 The ATO is looking at extending its motor vehicle data matching program for a further three years. What does this mean for us? According to the ATO, those reco...rds will help it identify higher-risk taxpayers with outstanding lodgements and those with undeclared income whose asset holdings may not be proportionate to their declared financial position. In other words if you are declaring a low income and driving around in a luxury vehicle it will be a red flag to the ATO. This data matching program is now into it's 16th year and the data from the program will be retained for five years.
