24.01.2022 Here is the Adelaide Soaring Club price list (where I now fly). A student membership is just $46pa (in fact until November it is only $8 as it is pro-rata!) thi...s gives access to the most affordable flight training I've ever seen @ $140/engine hour (in Whyalla & Murray Bridge I was paying $180-210/hr). Even doing one lessons a month, like how i started out several years ago in Whyalla, could see you flying solo + with a passenger within two years! (or a lot sooner if you train more often) Once you earn a pilot certificate you can hire & fly from only $127/engine hour! (and have the aircraft overnight with permission). for more information please don't hesitate to ask See more

24.01.2022 check out Flinders University's Rocket and Aerospace specialists; who have an enthusiastic and allied club to our own. A meeting of the Australian Youth Aerospace Association (AYAA) is taking place this Friday 16th of March, 5pm at Adelaide University and we are keen to have more representation our university alongside our rocketeer allies. for further details please contact Flinders AIAA, or inbox here

23.01.2022 I know it's only 2 days notice, but does anyone want to come along with me to represent Flinders University? I can cover the cost of entry (which includes pizza & drinks) and possibly do lifts. it will be a battle of the Skycrews!

23.01.2022 if people are not too busy during the mid-semester break, here is an interesting (free) event held at Uni SA's Mawson Lakes campus (Thurs 21st Sept)

22.01.2022 We have decided to stream our rocketry Round-table so people at home can view it. Email or message us if you are interested in doing rocketry!

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Mark, a fellow Flinders Uni student, and Adelaide Soaring Club member, on his first solo flight! No doubt a day he will never forget

20.01.2022 in just over 2 weeks time. For an interesting talk and tour around the search & rescue base; especially for people with an interest in helicopters and professional aviation.

19.01.2022 One of Adelaide Soaring Club's members is a reporter for Channel 9 & recently did a story on gliding for the national TODAY show. Affordable powered aircraft training is also available on Wed, Fri & Sat (from Gawler Aerodrome) - it a fair drive for some, but it offers the best rates by far + the best club atmosphere! http://adelaidesoaring.on.net/ https://twitter.com/TheTodayShow/status/1064070170430267392

18.01.2022 interested in clean energy? electric vehicles? or vehicle design from the ground up? come along and see what it's all about! I'm interested in how this technology can be incorporated into making (prop-driven) aviation more affordable, as the cost to operate & maintain electric vehicles (including aircraft) is a fraction of their fossil fuel counterparts. Free to attend - food provided haha

18.01.2022 Flinders Uni Skycrew is going to have a presence at the up & coming Orientation days (Mon 19th- Wed 21st February 2018). Being probably the newest club at the Uni (only founded in the last month of semester 2, 2017), it is important that we can grow to include new people who also have a passion for aviation and aerospace. For people interested in being part of Orientation week, or even if you cannot help out on the day but have ideas, please feel free to inbox and share your thoughts.

17.01.2022 Two friends, Bradley (top left) & Scott (top right) were given scholarships through Recreational Aviation Australia. Bradley, 17, has become a skilled pilot & often goes on flying day-trips with his g.f, while Scott is training to become an instructor - All of their training expenses were covered! Over the holiday break make your dreams become a reality! https://www.raa.asn.au/fly-with-us/scholarships/

17.01.2022 A brilliant training facility that Flinders Recreational Flyers will use in the Northern Suburbs of Adelaide; with some of the most affordable flight instruction in Australia

16.01.2022 Scholarships through Recreational Aviation Australia (RAAus) are now accepting applications for people (under 25 years of age) who are wanting to learn to fly! Don't dream! - Recreational aviation is more affordable, and accessible than you may think! https://www.raa.asn.au/fly-with-us/scholarships/

16.01.2022 another Flinders University group allied to our aerospace cause

16.01.2022 Things have gotten off to a slow start for the Flinders Uni Skycrew; mainly due to a lot of us being busy with new study topics, work commitments, and illness :/ but over the next few weeks we will be organizing (maybe a couple of times) for aviation, aeronautical & aerospace enthusiasts to get together & have a meeting of sorts

16.01.2022 somewhere in the bowels of Sturt Campus is a flight simulator (used by ASMS) which we will be applying to see if we can have access to in the near future. https://www.asms.sa.edu.au/portfolio/aviation-studies/

13.01.2022 We would like to announce the "Rocketry Round-table" on the Monday 19th of March at 6pm. Come to Tonsley Room 1.14 to get an overview of the rocketry competitions, discuss projects and talk with our executives. We look forward to seeing you and are excited for the times ahead!

12.01.2022 Been watching a few drone videos online & just ordered the necessary parts to assemble & program a basic drone from scratch! After a few upgrades + purchasing controllers, chargers & goggles etc, all up cost $313. Once the parts arrive, will keep everyone up-to-date with how it all goes :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avp8MurmeEY&t=714s

11.01.2022 After exams are over, come and check out Adelaide Soaring club - where several Flinders Uni Skycrew members hone their aviation (and gliding) skills! ASC is a not-for-profit flying organization with great instructors (both female & male) who volunteer their time to share their passion for flying. Theory classes are FREE, and hire-of-aircraft fees some of the most affordable in the nation + once you're qualified, you don't need to buy a plane to fly, as you'll get access to club aircraft for v reasonable rates. Check out their website, or contact Flinders Uni Skycrew for more info. Learn to fly over summer!

11.01.2022 This organization regulates what are called "Light Sports Aircraft" & issues a Recreational Pilot Certificate. It allows the flying of single engine, 2-seater a...ircraft, during daylight hours in unrestricted airspace (basically anywhere not in the vicinity of major international airports), carrying one passenger with the pilot. It is a lot cheaper to obtain a RAAus pilot certificate, than going through CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) to get what is called a PPL (Private Pilot License). But a huge bonus is that all training at this "recreational level" still counts towards obtaining CASA class pilot licenses - like a PPL or even CPL (Commercial Pilot License) - should you wish to continue on with training to fly larger, faster aircraft, in busier airspace 30 day free membership is offered to new student pilots before they decide whether to join at $215/year. This low cost covers such things as insurance liability, an online monthly magazine (called Sports Pilot) as well as many other benefits. There are even training scholarships available, so check out the link, plus go to the RAAus website https://www.raa.asn.au/ See more

11.01.2022 Come and try gliding or powered flight. Several Flinders Uni students train & hire aircraft from here. It is a lot more affordable & with-in reach than you may think. Help with theory & text books available as well

09.01.2022 Cameras at regional airfileds enable convenient viewing of the weather conditions before planning a flight for the day, plus can be accessed by pilots in aircraft on route, via their smartphone or tablet - as any pilot will tell you, phone tower reception is much better at 7,500 feet http://www.skycam.net.au/

08.01.2022 the dawn of affodable aviation is upon us. using only $3/hr of electricity as opposed to $30/hr in fuel, plus with much lower maintenance costs, electric aircraft may yet offer the possibility to make aviation a viable reality to the person wishing to fly

05.01.2022 flying over a wind farm on Fleurieu Peninsular on-route to Kangaroo Island (zoom in to see wind turbines).

05.01.2022 Another affordable flying school; potentially more convenient for students living in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. Situated at Pallamana Aerodrome (Murray Bridge Airport) near Monarto, down the Freeway before Murray Bridge

05.01.2022 apply for a scholarship today. one of my young friends recently obtained his recreational pilot certificate via this way

05.01.2022 For up and coming rocketeers; There is a national rocketry competition. Flinders University is forming a team so check out & sign up to Flinders AIAA if interested :)

04.01.2022 We are happy to advise that Flinders Uni Skycrew has been approved for Non-Financial Affiliation with FUSA in the most recent Student Council meeting

04.01.2022 beautiful day for a first flight at a well established (not-for-profit) aeroclub! Even though training here it is only at a "recreational" level, being within a... whisker of Adelaide & Parafield's controlled airspace, and on the border of Edinburgh's restricted airspace, flying here will certainly increase any aviator's skill level - I'm told a few Port Power footy players train out here too ;) See more

04.01.2022 A farewell flight for the RAAF's P-3 Orions, flying right over Gawler Aerodrome as they returned to Edinborough Airbase. They are being retired after 50 years of service.

03.01.2022 Hi everyone it's Lachlan Sheppard here! This post is a quick touch base for everyone who is interested in all things astrophysics and aerospace. If you have any inquires about rockets or astronomy, I am your go to admin Here's an awesome article on the recent discovery made by the joint Ligo/Virgo stations: http://theconversation.com/how-we-discovered-gravitational-
