04.01.2022 The inaugural BUILD Scholarships were awarded in April 2020, with the recipients now having completed the program. These scholarships provided practical and accessible business coaching and mentoring. They were designed to address the issues that typically constrain small businesses and slow their growth. This was an opportunity for pro-active business owners to look at their business objectively. ... What’s working. What’s not working? What are its strengths and weaknesses? What needs to be tweaked, created or improved? One of the recipients was Gardner Knives When we asked Amanda Knight & Barry Gardner about what they wanted to achieve through the program at the beginning and they said. ‘Giving us a 'future plan'; giving us the knowledge to take our business in the direction we think we want to go; giving us information about particular steps we might take to head in a different direction; taking us out of the 'immediacy' of the day to day running of the business so that we can see more clearly the bigger picture in order to take the action/s we need to take.’ When we asked if this had been met they wrote And some!!! Way above and beyond meeting our expectations; the group meetings were so great in helping us to stay motivated, committed and accountable and without that, I’m not sure we would have stayed the distance. It was super helpful checking in every week and your calm and methodical approach, together with your clarity and enthusiasm also helped us to stay on track and to feel that it was all worthwhile through all of our challenges." Congratulation Baz and Amanda. Good luck although we don’t think you will need it somehow!

03.01.2022 BUILD SCHOLARSHIPS closing soon The BUILD Scholarships provide practical and accessible training on how to build a sustainable and thriving business by Next Level Up Business Coaching & Mentoring. They were designed to address the issues that typically constrain small businesses and slow their growth. This was an opportunity for pro-active business owners to look at their business objectively. One recipient was Tanya Bingham from True North Yoga... For Tanya the challenge going in was ‘to work through and clarify the potential for the business, develop steps to implement and action the potential, and accountability/removing any personal obstacles to achieve that potential.’ When asked whether that expectation met, Tanya told us "It was more than expected. I feel equipped with the mindset and tools to take the business from start-up to sustainable" To apply https://foundationbarossa.org.au//build-business-coaching/ Applications close 24th April, 2021

01.01.2022 CAN YOU HELP PROVIDE HOPE FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN IN THE BAROSSA? We are facing unprecedented levels of youth homelessness in the Barossa. There were at least forty-four children who were homeless in the Barossa prior to the pandemic. This number has now increased significantly, with children as young as eight years old presenting as homeless to Centacare. With COVID, people across the country are being told to stay home. For young people who do not have a safe and secure pl...ace to call home, this is easier said than done. With no youth shelter in the Barossa we are seeing a worrying increase in the number of children sleeping rough and in cars. There is a misconception that young people experience homelessness by choice, but the reality is often very different. The issues are vast and complex. For at-risk young people, their lives have become emotionally and often physically unbearable. Foundation Barossa is partnering with Kids Under Cover and Centacare Youth Homelessness in the Barossa on a solution. Kids under Cover runs an innovative, evidence-based studio program, which provides secure and stable accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness. They build relocatable one- and two-bedroom (with bathroom) studios that are installed in the backyard of the family or carers home. Each studio is used to prevent homelessness on average for four children. The extra space relieves overcrowding, eases tensions, and provides young people with a secure and stable place, giving at risk young people the room to recover and develop. Foundation Barossa has launched an appeal The Foundations Project, to crowd fund $100,000 to build the first youth homeless prevention studio in the Barossa, which is an important step in this journey. This will ensure four Barossa children are prevented from becoming homeless. It will also provide seed funding for a long term self-sustainable fund to ensure a simple but effective approach to the prevention of youth homelessness with the funding of further studios. Foundation Barossa will work with these young people to provide education scholarships so they can continue their studies and achieve their goals We have a real opportunity to make a difference to the lives of these children. This appeal starts the transformational process of ensuring no young person should have to experience homelessness in the Barossa. Foundation Barossa would like to invite all individuals, companies, schools and organisations to be part of this important initiative and help some of the most vulnerable in our community. To make a tax deductible donation via the fundraising platform: https://the-foundations-project.raisely.com/ or contact Foundation Barossa on [email protected]
