23.01.2022 To celebrate our firm's 32 years of providing legal services to the community (14 years in Malaysia and 18 years in Australia), we have unearthed the very first case in which Francis appeared as Counsel in the High Court of Malaya in May 1982 (he was admitted to the Malayan Bar in December 1981). The case was reported as Pacific & Orient Insurance Co. Sdn. Bhd. v. Lim Sew Chong & Anor. [1985] 2 MLJ 60. The High Court accepted Francis’ submission that the deceased’s son who ac...ted as an executor de son tort had insurable interest when he renewed the insurance for a truck belonging to the deceased’s estate. The Insurance Agents knew of the deceased’s death when they renewed the insurance. The Insurer, as usual, denied liability and its Counsel submitted that the insurance for the truck which was renewed after the deceased’s death was null and void. #history #firstcasereported #insurancelaw #estates
