22.01.2022 A lesson I continue to learn.... And with each layer I peel back, the more work there is to be done. But instead of trying to "fix" myself, these days I am learning to ACCEPT myself, in all my strengths and all my weaknesses. Learning to march to the beat of my own drum, while also remembering what my own drum even sounds like Finding solace in the fierce duality existing within all of us. So if you're anything like me, here is your daily reminder that you are already everything you need to be, you are not broken, and you are enough, always
20.01.2022 Take a moment to be aware of your feet I want you to actually take a moment to pause, and really FEEL your feet planted firmly on the ground. Feel into the main points of contact....your heel.....the ball of your foot at your big toe, and the ball of the foot at the pinky toe. Press in to these points and feel the arches of the foot deepen. The three main points of contact create a triangle shape from the heel to the ball, forming three separate sides, or arches that help u...s create a solid foundation Spend a few breaths really sensing this stability, bringing attention to all of the tiny, intricate bones and muscles in our feet and ankles. I want to dedicate some time this week to our wonderful feet....our foundation, and our connection to Earth. Did you know that around 25% of the bones in the body are found in the feet?! And out of the 30 bones in each leg, a whopping 26 belong to the foot and ankle, which allows us to stay balanced and upright. To move and manipulate these bones, we have 29 different muscles in each foot. Nineteen of these 29 muscles are referred to as intrinsic muscles as they only operate within the foot, acting to stabilise arches and manipulate toes. The remaining 10 muscles originate further up the leg and mainly work on stabilising the ankle. The main muscles of the foot include the: Tibilias posterior, supporting the arch of the foot. Tibilias anterior, allowing the foot to move upward. Tibilias peroneal, controling movement on the outer ankle. In Yoga we are learning to gradually sense into and open the subtleties in our body, and, over time, we can train these individual bones and muscles to be activated and strengthened. 08.01.2022 Our Heart Chakra (Anahata) lies in the centre of our chest, and being the 4th of 7 Chakras, it brings connection between our lower, earthly Chakras and our higher, more spiritual Chakras. The word Anahata translates from Sanskrit to mean "Unstruck", and appears in ancient Vedic texts to as Anahata-Nad, meaning the "Unstruck Sound" By this definition, we learn that silent contemplation allows us to listen to our inner wisdom, and it is in this silence that we can bes...t connect with our heart and truest essence. It is thought that Anahata allows decisions to be made from our most authentic inner selves...to "follow your heart" is to take action based on intuition and being our highest self rather than being controlled by earthly restraints It is connected to compassion, empathy, love, faith, gratitude, trust, generosity, connectedness, peace, charity, forgiveness, self-worth and emotional regulation. Imbalances here can leave you feeling fearful, lonely, disconnected, untrusting, unloved/unlovable, jealous, unworthy, insecure, resentful, victimised, emotional, isolated, and can cause a tendency to lead from the head not the heart. Our Anahata is connected with air, touch and working with our hands, and is highly nourished with activities such as self-massage, doing arts and crafts or playing a musical instrument The best way to balance the heart is to practice self-love and gratitude EVERY SINGLE DAY as well as supporting it with mindfulness practices and eating an array of green foods In Yoga we can help to activate this space by incorporating dynamic heart-opening poses into our flow, and that's exactly what we will be doing this week at Holding Space, East Devonport! Tuesdays 9am Hatha // 5.45pm Vinyasa Wednesdays 6.30am Hatha ALL Levels Welcome - Yoga is for every BODY!! Our Hatha flow is perfect for beginners or try the faster Vinyasa flow for a gentle challenge Contact me for more details!

06.01.2022 STOP Take a pause from scrolling social media for a moment and breath with me. INHALE deeply through your nostrils, keeping your belly soft, allowing it to open and expand like a balloon. Feel your breath fill your belly...your chest...and up through your collarbone. EXHALE and release any stress or any tension you might be holding in your body in this moment. Letting it all go on our out-breath.... Do this again a few times, and notice your body begin to soften and relax... Our breath is a funny thing - it seems that we continue to breath automatically even when we aren't thinking about it...but if we want to, we also have the power to control our breathing. Often this unconscious breathing is shallow, breathing only into our collarbone and shoulders. Conscious, deep belly breathing however is known to: Reduce signs of stress and anxiety by activating the parasympathetic nervous system Detoxify the body and stimulate the Lymphatic system Improve digestion, sleep and energy levels Lower blood pressure by regulating heart rate Increases strength in abdominal and back muscles and helps protect against injury. Our lungs are a spongey organ that contain tiny sacs called Alveoli and it's in these sacs that the exchange of gases occur. They absorb oxygen that comes in on the inhale, sending it to red blood cells to be sent throughout the body. CO2 and other wastes use this same pathway via the Alveoli to be expelled on the exhale, both mainting internal pH levels and detoxifying the body. Our breath is actually responsible for about 70% of our bodies excretion of waste products, making it a really important tool for maintaining good health. In Yoga the breath is known to be a vessel for Prana energy to flow through the body, and is regarded equally as important as the postures. In fact, according to yogic philosophy, yoga movements (Asanas) and breathing exercises (Pranayama) are just 2 of the 8 Limbs of Yoga. This week our theme is Respiration and the Breath - creating space in our chest and ribs, deepening our breathing and using the breath to soothe and cleanse our minds and bodies DON'T FORGET Community classes at Neighbourhood House Ulverstone start this Monday (4.30pm) Cost Only $5!! Bookings essential (contact me for info). Regular classes at Holding Space, East Devonport - Drop ins and Beginners Welcome! Tuesday 9am Hatha flow Tuesday 5.45pm Vinyasa flow Wednesday 6.30am Early Morning Hatha
