12.01.2022 Never leave children or pets alone in a car With the forcasted high temperatures in the coming week you need to be mindful of the conditions that can occur in a car. On a typical Australian summer day, the temperature inside a parked car can be more than double the temperature outside. That means that on a 30C day, the temperature inside the car can reach over 60C!... A child or pet left in a parked car under those conditions for even a few minutes can very quickly become distressed, dehydrated and can die from organ failure. 75% of the temperature increase occurs within five minutes of closing the car Darker-coloured cars can reach slightly higher temperatures than lighter-coloured cars Large cars can heat up just as fast as small cars The colour of interior trim has little effect on the speed that the temperature can increase inside a car Having the windows down 5cm causes only a slight decrease in temperature with an outside temperature of around 30C What are the risks? -The temperature and humidity inside the car begin to increase while the airflow decreases -As the temperature increases inside the car, the child or pet can begin to develop heat stress and start to dehydrate -Young children are more sensitive to heat than older children and adults. This can put them at greater risk of heat stroke and other health risks More info https://www.mynrma.com.au//what-to-do-if-you-see-a-child-l #frnsw #preparedforanything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable

12.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

09.01.2022 Have you ever seen a group of Firefighters wandering the street seemingly attempting to graffiti the road? Have you wondered what they are doing? Chances are they are "Checking Hydrants". Most FRNSW urban pumpers carry about 2000L of water. Firefighters can use this up in a matter of minutes when fighting a standard house fire. We need more water. Hydrants are like big taps that connect into the water system and allow firefighters to safely extinguish any fires. When we need ...a hydrant, we need it in a hurry. Many hydrants get buried in grass or dirt or leaves. They are very difficult to find in the dark. Hydrant checks involve finding hydrants, digging them out if required, testing them and then marking them. They may be marked with yellow paint, a yellow H on the road, a blue "cats eye" or a marker plate on a nearby traffic pole. Do you have a hydrant near your house? Do you think a firefighter could find it in a hurry? Keep it clear for us so we can help you. https://www.sydneywater.com.au///mje2/~edisp/dd_216134.pdf
