04.01.2022 The millionaire, the daughter and the crossbow: a recent Victorian case filled with revenge plots, jealousy and deception reads like an Australian true crime doco. It highlights the importance of a correctly prepared will. The Supreme Court case saw the daughter of a wealthy conservative Jewish businessman successfully suing her father’s estate for $3.225 million, around a quarter of the $12.4 million estate, after she was left out of the will. The award was made despite the ...daughter having led a campaign to embarrass and harass her family and at one time plotting to kill her father with a crossbow in a public revenge attack. The case highlights the complex nature of ‘family provision’ claims and the often surprising outcomes. With one of our firms’ principal lawyers and head of our Wills team based in Geelong, we can certainly do our best to make sure this doesn’t happen in your family when you pass away.
