23.01.2022 Yesterday, Galilee School was delighted, (and humbled), to receive this beautiful bunch of flowers. The sender was anonymous. That doesn’t matter - we get it. We really appreciate the expression of gratitude. ... To you, if you sent the flowers - thank you.

23.01.2022 Thank you Volunteering ACT and Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) for supporting our school, by completing bushfire preparedness activities, and setting up bollards around our new oval space, in October 2020. Your volunteering support has helped us provide a safe and positive environment for Galilee students and is much appreciated! #Thankyou #CBRCommunity #SocialImpact

22.01.2022 This week is phone free week at Galilee School. Phone Free Week is held each Term in Week 7. Phone Free Week seeks to find time for all of us: students, staff, parents and carers; to think about our engagement with technology - both positive and negative; and to look at ways to adjust our practice constructively and positively.... All of us are challenged at times with regard to our relationship with technology. This week is therefore not just about our students - it's about us, it's about parents and carers; it's about the conversations that we are going to have across the week. We'll be having conversations at school; we encourage parents and carers to continue these conversations at home. Below is a link to a useful article that we share with you. It provides an alternative narrative around how we engage with and consider our relationship with technology. It comes from the Family OnLine Safety Institute: The Family Online Safety Institute is an international, non-profit organization which works to make the online world safer for kids and their families. FOSI convenes leaders in industry, government and the non-profit sectors to collaborate and innovate new solutions and policies in the field of online safety. Through research, resources, events and special projects, FOSI promotes a culture of responsibility online and encourages a sense of digital citizenship for all. Here is the article: https://www.fosi.org//trouble-screen-time-ditch-counting-/

21.01.2022 The blossoms are out at Kambah Campus. Spring is just around the corner. Kambah Campus is just beautiful at this time of year.

21.01.2022 Communities@Work is proud to launch our latest Annual Report, which presents the impact our organisation has made in the Canberra community during 2019-2020 We invite you to browse our annual report with us on our website: https://www.commsatwork.org/about-us/annual-report-2019-20/

20.01.2022 Over the last few months Communities@Work broadly, and Galilee School also, have been reviewing and refreshing our websites. We will continue to keep our pages fresh, new and 'worth a visit.' In particular we are building our 'Guardian and Community Resources' page. This page, is hoped, will become a very useful site for people to visit (young people and their families and carers) to find useful information and resources and/or connect with other service providers in the Canb...erra and surrounding region. Please, have a look and tell us what you think .... https://www.commsatwork.org/servi/community/galilee-school/

18.01.2022 Guess what? We have now reached $1000 raised through cans and bottles being cashed in and gifted to Galilee School. Thank you to everyone that has contributed! Anyone can help. Simply take your bag of cans and bottles to a collection depot in Canberra, enter the school phone number (02) 6293 6314 and identify how many bags you are depositing. It takes just minutes but it helps a lot. More information can be found at: https://www.returnit.com.au/... If we all do a little bit, the results will be great! You can also bring your cans and bottles into the school and we'll take care of the rest.

18.01.2022 2019 was an incredible year at Galilee School. A copy of our Annual Report for 2019 is available through our website: https://www.commsatwork.org/servi/community/galilee-school/... If you were a part of the school in 2019 - look back over the year that was and remember the incredible journey that we took together. If you're a member of our wider Galilee School community - look over the report, its a great way of connecting with the successes of that past year.

16.01.2022 Phone free week continues at Galilee School for the rest of this week. It has been a solid week and the young people have really bought in to what we are trying to achieve in a really positive way. Below is useful link to the Raising Children website - full of useful and informative information for parents/carers (the link below takes you to a page about screen time but there are heaps of other useful pages on the website also):... https://raisingchildren.net.au//screen-time-he/screen-time

15.01.2022 Thanks to Rainbow Paws Program for making reading even more fun for our students with their innovative pet therapy reading program! It's a win-win for all!!

15.01.2022 The end of year is always a mixture of pride and sadness for the staff at Galilee School.... Pride: as we reflect back on how the students have grown, matured and successfully navigated their way through the challenges the year has thrown at them - and this year more than most. Sadness: at seeing some of our students leave us to continue the next step in their life’s journey. To our students: We feel privileged to have been part of your journey. We wish good things for all ...of you. Thank you. To our families and carers: Thank you for entrusting us to help educate and guide your young person. Our staff have genuine care and commitment to our school and the young people in it; we hold deep belief in the potential of each student. We have loved bringing out that potential to help all of our students be the best they can possibly be. To wrap up the year we held a whole school End of Year Assembly on our Kambah campus to reflect on the highs (and the bumps) of 2020 and to celebrate the achievements of our students. We also held our Year 10 Graduation Night, which again, was a joyous happy occasion, thoroughly enjoyed by all. The students looked amazing!! It was wonderful to see how they've developed into such confident young adults. We were all filled with admiration as we watched them receive the accolades that they did and come together as a Year 10 class group. Not to mention a few watery eyes during Joannah's heartfelt speech on behalf of the students! A huge thanks to Galilee's dedicated teachers, youth workers and support staff, who have supported and guided the students to prepare them for the next stage of their lives. Thanks also to the hardworking graduation organising committee for putting on an amazing graduation night, and a scrumptious looking cake! :) 2020 has been an amazing year. Thanks to all our Galilee School family and friends. #GraduationDay2020

11.01.2022 This week is Gratitude Week at Galilee School. Every term we take the time to be deliberate about saying 'thank you.' There is a lot of evidence to reinforce the impact that being grateful can have in our worlds.... This short video, asks us to shift our thinking around gratitude from being something that we give to others, to being something that we ask for ourselves... https://www.ted.com//laura_trice_remember_to_say_thank_you

08.01.2022 A big shout out to the ADFA cadets who generously gave their time and energy on the weekend to improve Galilee School's facilities. One group installed bollards at our Year 10 campus to mark a new sports oval. Another group at our Y7-9 campus in Kambah cleared scrub that had been designated a potential bushfire hazard. The working bee was part of the cadets' annual Weary Dunlop Challenge. As one cadet explained "Weary Dunlop symbolises the important values that are the founda...tion of ADFA. Helping out with community projects like this is a great way to put those values into practise. It's also our way to give back to the community that is supporting us. We really enjoy doing this." And we really enjoyed having their smiling faces and happy attitudes. Thank you so much ADFA! #wearydunlop #ADFA #CBRcommunity

08.01.2022 Across the school we held another 'Phone Free Week' in Week 7 (last week) - over a number of recent terms the school has held Phone Free Week in Week 7 and it is now an entrenched element of our school calendar. Phone free week has 2 broad objectives: to encourage the young people attending Galilee School to reduce or limit their use or reliance on their mobile device or phone. In so doing we hope to stimulate positive engagement with learning and promote healthier relationsh...ips and physical activity to share positive messages about how we as a community engage with and use technology. Through the messages, discussions and activities across the week (and more broadly) we are hoping to build the levels of "Digital Intelligence' in our Young People: Digital intelligence is about being able to adapt your feelings and behaviour in response to challenges you might face online. For young people, this means developing social and emotional skills as well as knowledge and experience of digital technology. RESPECT act respectfully towards others, acknowledging and appreciating that others may have different points of view, cultures and backgrounds. CRITICAL THINKING think critically about what you see online and ask questions to identify and analyse information that may seek to exploit or misinform. RESILIENCE be resilient and respond with strength and maturity when risks are encountered online. RESPONSIBILITY be responsible about what you say and do, by engaging positively with others and being accountable for your behaviour. EMPATHY be empathetic to others and use emotional intelligence to respect opinions, embrace diversity of opinion and freedom of speech.

01.01.2022 Hi fives for two of our Galilee School staff, Mel Smith and Kaila Drysdale, who have started the Act for Peace food ration challenge. From 13-19 September they will be eating the same rations as a Syrian refugee living in a camp in Jordan: a small amount of rice, flour, lentils, chickpeas, beans, oil and fish (or tofu). We don't envy their caffeine withdrawals and hunger pains, but applaud them for shining the light on the injustice of life in refugee camps and helping us to ...gain a deeper respect for people surviving on these rations day in, day out. If you would like to support them through their fundraiser, please click here: https://actforpeace.rationchallenge.org.au/t/galileelegends . So far they’ve raised over $4,000, which will be used to provide emergency food, hygiene kits and life-saving support to the people that need it most. Great job ladies!!! #GalileeSchool #inthistogether #charity

01.01.2022 We had a great evening last night with our annual ‘Principal’s BBQ’ held this year at our Holder campus. Thanks to all parents, carers and students that were able to attend. Thanks to all staff for your support. The evening is an opportunity to share more about our school, for staff and parents/carers to meet and for us all to share a meal together. We also gave each family a copy of both the ‘Nurturing Young Minds’ and ‘Growing Happy, Healthy Young Minds’ books published by Generation Next Community

01.01.2022 Parentline ACT continues to provide free telephone and face-to-face/Skype/Zoom counselling services and support to parents and caregivers. Parentline would love all the local parents and caregivers to know that they can be contacted in these times of hardship.
