23.01.2022 As part of our upcoming EXHIBITION PAGODA - April 29-June 20 Boyd McMillan will be exhibiting a number of his recent works depicting the beauty of the Pagodas and the recent flourish of Flannel Flowers. Boyd works in a variety of media with a foundation of walking and drawing in natural areas such as the western Blue Mountains. His practise is based upon site drawing and the direct experience of landscape. The work starts from the immediacy of drawing and develops in the appl...ication of media and techniques available in the studio to convey the experience of change in landscape and explore resonance through metaphor. Boyd received formal training majoring in painting in the mid 1970’s, and has continued a dual practice as an artist and landscape architect exhibiting in Galleries and Art Fairs in Australia and Japan. He has been a finalist in the Gosford Art Prize and the Bermagui Sculpture Prize and his work is held in private collections across Australia, in the United States and the UK. 20.01.2022 Two works from Canadian Sculptor Ellen Jewett have just arrived from Ontario for the Beauty of the Beast Exhibition at Gang Gang Gallery which is on at the gallery till to 21st September. Ellen was born in Markham Ontario Canada and took to shaping three dimensional forms naturally at a young age. In 2007 Ellen completed her post secondary honours degree in Anthropology and Fine Art at McMaster University. While finishing her undergraduate degrees Ellen worked in medica...l illustration, exotic animal care and was teaching a childrens class on stop motion animation. By the time she presented her thesis, Ellens academic and artistic interests in the biological where intrinsically interwoven. Considered by those who know her as a natural entrepreneur, Ellen set out on her own path as a career artist while still in high school, spending long summer weekends travelling to exhibitions. Ever the curious soul, while working as an artist Ellen has continued to study art and science respectively. According to Ellen, it all informs her art; enriching the content of the unconscious narrative flow. THE ART IN ME EXHIBITION AIMS TO:... Encourage primary children to focus on themselves and express themselves through visual art using the theme ME. Connect primary schools in the Lithgow LGA with the community through the exhibiting of their art in a free entry art space. Encourage primary children to be confident in their art skills as they see their art in a professional gallery. Demonstrate to children that art and being artistic is valued. Schools are invited to enter two A3 art works on paper per class to be exhibited in Gang Gang Gallery in Lithgow. The theme for the artwork is ME and children may interpret this in any way they wish. Suggestions include, but are not limited to, painting, drawing, collage, photography and mixed media (2D art only). 05.01.2022 THE THREE HANDED BEAT BANDITSundoubtedly the best three-handed big band in the world will be appearing at Gang Gang Gallery this weekend on Sunday, April 11th. Made up of the two-handed, John Stuart, and the single-handed, Neill Duncan - between them they play guitar, bass, congas, drums, and saxophone, all at the same time. Megaphone vocals included, this beat combo swings their listeners through a kaleidoscope of musical styles, including reggae, ska, calypso, funk, swing..., and a little klezmer is thrown in for good measure. Beautiful to the ear. Great for the feet. Their 2-hour appearance will be showcasing all-new material intended for an album release soon. The new material will be performed by the boys on Sunday but you can hear a sneak listen to the first intended single by listening to an interview on Blue Mountains Live tonight on RBM89.1FM where The Professor will talk to John Stuart and play the song 'Handywork'.
