24.01.2022 This is a great story about Trina the greyhound! When Trina came to us she was very apprehensive. The GAP NSW team at Wyee spent much time working with Trina to grow her confidence. They also spent time teaching her new skills she would need for life with a new owner. It took some time, but eventually the team effort started to pay off and Trina started to find comfort and interest in her new lifestyle. She was able to join the other greyhounds at the adoption centre on thei...r long walks in the big wide world and even stopped reacting to the sound of cars and trucks whizzing past on the road. In August 2020, all the stars aligned when Sarah reached out to GAP with an interest in adopting Trina. Sarah understood all of Trina's quirks and did her research on how to care for a dog with specific needs such as Trina. When Sarah first spoke to the GAP team she said Trina sounds absolutely wonderful. I have looked at her photos and she is absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to meet her and hopefully give her a loving home. And when the day came, it was love at first sight. Recently, Sarah said, Trina has filled my home with so much love and excitement. It is just us two and I couldn’t be happier. Every morning I wake up and she is there beside me and ready to play. As soon as I get home from work she is so excited to greet me, I think I miss her as much as she misses me when I’m not home. Sarah has been happy with the journey so far and has shared some kind words to describe her experience. "GAP has been amazing. The girls have always answered any call or text, always able to answer all my questions, and support me in any way I need throughout this process. Trina is a special girl and I've needed a bit of guidance with her and they have made that transition so smooth over the last 3 months. The girls from GAP bend over backwards to help in any way possible. I already recommend GAP to anyone interested in a companion, as I've found the love of my life and best".

23.01.2022 The White Ribbon Campaign is a great initiative which aims to raise awareness among Australian men and boys about the roles they can play to prevent violence against women. More love in the world we live in is a great thing!

20.01.2022 If you have been hanging out for the happiest greyhound on the planet then you may have just found him! With a true zest for life, you won’t catch Patrick without a smile on his face and a happily wagging tail. Affectionately and aptly known as Pat, this boy spends his time seeking out as many pats as he can from everyone he meets, and being so adorable, it’s not difficult for him! Patrick loves life toys, food, any and all attention, walks and lazing around in the sun all ...make him one happy boy. He would love a home with a backyard to chase around his toys and do his zoomies in. We feel that Patrick would love the company of older kids and a home where he is by himself for around 3-5 hours would be ideal. Being such a social guy, Patrick might also be happy to share his life with another canine friend pending a meet and greet. Pat really will make one lucky family a perfect pet. DM us or visit gapnsw.com.au for more details.

19.01.2022 Lest we forget. For those who would like to know why today is the day we commemorate ANZAC DAY, this message from the Australian War Memorial is powerful: "The Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold stroke to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became a stalemate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months. At the end of 1915 the allied forces were evacuated from the peninsula, with both sides having suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. More than 8,000 Australian soldiers had died in the campaign. Gallipoli had a profound impact on Australians at home, and 25 April soon became the day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of those who died in the war.

18.01.2022 There is a NEW TICK DISEASE, should you be concerned? If the last 12 months have taught us anything, it’s that new diseases can seemingly appear out of nowhere, leaving us scared and confused about just how it will affect our lives the same can happen for our pets. By now you have probably heard it on the news, or read about it in the paper. The question you’re probably asking yourself is ‘should I be concerned about this new tick disease?’.... Today we will divulge everything we know about canine ehrlichiosis (yes, IT has a name). How it began In May of 2020, vets in WA observed dogs suffering from symptoms consistent with severe tick fever. Dogs were tested for a disease known as canine ehrlichiosis, which had never been found in Australian dogs before. Before long, more than 300 dogs across WA and the Northern Territory had tested positive for canine ehrlichiosis. Recently cases have been reported in South Australia and it is feared that this disease could spread to more populous areas in southern and eastern Australia. How to recognise the symptoms Dogs may become infected when bitten by a tick carrying the bacterium which enters white blood cells and multiplies rapidly. Physical signs of illness occur approximately 2 weeks after transmission and may cause. 12.01.2022 Stripe is unique in every way, and he’s looking for an exceptional person or family to love him. Apart from being one of the best-looking greyhounds we have at the moment, Stripe is a very happy dog who spends his days bouncing around and wagging his tail. Stripe has a heart condition called TVD, however, he currently shows no clinical signs of TVD and does not require medication. He enjoys a nice walk but strenuous exercise is not for him. He is full of life and brings joy ...to all who are lucky enough to meet him. Stripe strangely loves his toys almost as much as he loves treats, but what he wants are humans to call his own. Do you have a heart of gold like Stripe? If you give him a chance, he will reward you with life’s most extraordinary gift love. Is this you? Read more below or DM us if you want to talk about Stripe https://www.gapnsw.com.au//stripe-is-looking-for-his-fur-e

11.01.2022 When you choose to adopt a greyhound you’re choosing to fall in love no matter who you are! They’re so easy going and perfect for busy people: Greyhounds enjoy a 15-20 minute walk a day and spend a lot of their time contently sleeping for up to 20 hours. They are highly affectionate and do love some attention, but they will patiently wait for you to get home from work every day and then they will make you feel loved with endless kisses.... The perfect pet for small apartments: Despite their big appearance, greyhounds don’t need vast amounts of space, as long as they get half an hour of exercise every day, they thrive in smaller city spaces where they prefer to roll up into a ball and sleep the day away. They quietly settle into their urban environment, where you will rarely hear them bark. What’s not to love? A loyal addition to the family: Greyhounds are highly affectionate dogs and have a gentle nature, making them a perfect family addition. A greyhound will very quickly become your children’s new best friend. A great companion for the elderly: Greyhounds are gentle giants. They are known for being docile, placid companions that thrive on being by your side, giving you all their love, all of the time. They are not highly excitable dogs and much prefer walks beside you rather than ahead of you. 01.01.2022 Blitz is looking for his fur-ever home, is it with you? He’s a little crazy, a lot of fun, a bit sweet, and will easily win over your heart! He loves his toys, especially when they are soft and squeaky; he loves his treats and will gently take them from your hand. He loves to get out and about on a walk, to sniff and see new things, and can be excitable but walks well on a harness. Treat puzzle toys are great to keep him entertained when you are not there. Blitz has tested o...ut our new pool at GAP HQ and enjoys the water, but loves the shallow water of a puddle or shell pool, where he will sit and play with his toys. We recommend his fur-ever home entails; lots of toys, lots of love and playtime with his hooman pals, walkies, a shell pool, his hoomans can work full-time hours he copes well on his own, but no children only because he gets very excitable at times, and no other animals. Blitz is an incredibly loving dog he just needs somebody to love him back, spend time with him, and a bit more training; then Blitz will be one of the a wonderful dog... can you give Bliz the life he deserves?

01.01.2022 Have you ever heard of 'lick granuloma'? Lick granuloma is caused when a dog constantly licks a certain spot on its body, which can develop into small sores that can bleed and become infected if untreated. Chances are, your dog has suffered from lick granuloma at some stage in their life. These spots commonly appear in the lower leg area, and usually are no cause for concern, however they can cause a few issues if your dog continues to lick or bite the same spot without givi...ng it time to heal. The root cause of the condition can be both physical and psychological, which can make diagnosis quite difficult in certain cases. Here are some behaviours and triggers to look out for in your dog: Non-physical causes: - Anxiety and stress-induced: Dogs who experience anxiety or stress from situations such as rapid environmental changes, separation from their owners, or sudden changes in their daily routines can develop lick granuloma as they utilise licking as a tool to relieve stress - Inadequate exercise: If dogs do not receive adequate and regular exercise, they will find ways to release their energy in counterproductive behaviour such as destroying property, pacing, and constant licking of feet and legs. Physical causes: - Wound licking: Dogs instinctively lick wounds to clean the area and help it heal. - Itchy spots: The itching is relieved by constant licking or biting which in turn causes lick granuloma - Arthritis: Joint pain can cause your dog to excessively lick an area and develop a sore spot. If your dog has sore spots on its body that are causing excessive licking, you need to seek help from your Vet who can diagnose the root cause of the problem and provide the right treatment. Learn more here: https://www.gapnsw.com.au//2021-02-/what-is-lick-granuloma
