25.01.2022 Classic VanMelum yarn had us going for a while..! Whatever the true history of this image, or the fate of the iconic, elusive and heralded McGavin twins, one thing remains a fact: The Wedge has served as classroom, proving ground and R&D lab for generations of whompers since early man first learned to navigate the waves to evade hungry plesiosaurs.

25.01.2022 #planehead The Riva Classic is inspired by almost 200-year-old design, but is every bit a contemporary classic. Fine-tuned for perfect balance and handling, the timber veneer offers a fraction more weight to maximise trim even in less-than-perfect conditions. 24.01.2022 Saying "go travel" is like chucking peroxide on coral cuts for anyone who has been living in the real world this last year! But travel isn't about distant horizons, boarding planes or even heading to the dreamy shores of the British Virgin Islands. Our distant buddy Shayne McIntyre gives us some eye candy and inspires us to get out of the back yard, even if it's just for a camping trip 30 minutes down the road. Adventure doesn't need a passport.

24.01.2022 #humpdaybomb Okay, so it's not a ridden wave, but we want to give a shout out to Trent Slatter and the hellmen behind the lens. These lads train hard, play hard and go hard to get incredible shots that keep us stoked. Without them, we'd just be us. Thanks Trent - and all the lensmen and women who put in the time and their lives on the line

20.01.2022 Tails of the Unexpected. The wide diamond tail of the Riva Classic [pictured] and Riva Onyx may seem a little contradictory. The whole purpose of the many nuances of bodysurfing - in planes and with our bodies - is to reduce drag as much as possible. Not only do the turned-down rails of the Riva tail drastically reduce spray-back, but by pressing through the heal of you hand, you actually create greater lift and make the plane plane! 17.01.2022 Kalani Lattanzi - either he can't tell his left from his right or he's the only guy brave/crazy enough to go right at The Wedge! Captured, of course, by the guru of Wedge photography, @capnpugwash on IG

16.01.2022 The Go Kart Onyx is your best buddy in a beach break. Locking tight into the pocket, it gives you the immediate responsiveness you need when things get tight. And when the chaos erupts, there's not too much volume to be fighting the vortex with. The additional keel fin gives you maximum hold on steep faces, increasing your opportunity to get the most out of every ride. When you gotta go, go go Go Kart.

15.01.2022 Meet our latest Garage ambassador! After several delays, we are stoked to finally present our latest collaboration with Clara of Las Chicas del Sol who has created this awesome t-shirt and capartwork for us! We are taking exclusive pre-orders for the next two weeks only, so follow the Link in Bio to visit our website and let us know your size and preferred colour and we'll print one up just for you! Full stock will be available later this year, but you can be part of our exclusive pre-order, only available until September 14th. Head to our website now for more info.

15.01.2022 That view we all search for...it comes a little bit easier in Bali... Barrel Bagus - Shayne McIntyre

15.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, a pair of Garage Handplanes left Sydney, Australia to head across the world to Newquay, Cornwall. Legend of the lens and hardy, year-round surf photographer Jamie Elliott was on the receiving end, and we can't wait to see the results. If you're a Cornish bodysurfer and want to try out the Garage Riva Classic or the Garbo model - and maybe even score a couple of Jamie's epic shots - hit him up. He's always looking for an excuse to freeze his plums off in pursuit of some awesome imagery!

13.01.2022 Some things just go together perfectly; peanut butter and jam, Bill and Ted, groundswell and offshores... When Masakazu Mabo Miura Fleming joined forces with Garage Handplanes, it could only be a good thing. When Allan Wrath Artist joined the party it got even better, and the Garbo was born as the perfect collaboration. Garbo + DaFiN Surfing Products? Yup, another perfect match... then put that combo on the paws of @808maukatomakai and it gets perfect all over again.... Thanks for the props Brian - enjoy the ride

12.01.2022 It may only be thin, but the timber veneer of the Riva Classic completely changes the way it feels. The couple of grams' extra weight provides a stable, dependable feel that carries you down the line and lets you know it ain't goin' anywhere, no matter how hard you push it. When in doubt - keep it Classic. Photo: Jamie Elliott

11.01.2022 Whatever size of wave you're on, however heavy it might be, the best thing to do is often counter-intuitive. When you're caught in its teeth, resisting a wave can often lead to heavier hits, longer holds and popped sockets. If you get to the point of no return, commit 100 percent, and aim for the hollow of the barrel. By pulling in, you avoid the maelstrom and can also get good penetration to either head straight down or pop out the back. If you cop it, again, don't fight it. You'll only burn precious oxygen and it won't make a difference to the length of your hold-down - only to the integrity of your limbs! Photo: The Interred, 16images. 10.01.2022 Yeah, we don't understand it either! But our brother in Tahiti, Taimoana Chaulet, has been training and charging hard, sharing his tips and passion for freeform surfing with Waaaaves. Featuring some epic footage from the islands, from the sliding points of Papenoo to the yawning maw of Teahupo'o, Taimoana's interview below is well worth a watch, even on mute!

09.01.2022 One from the archives, courtesy of @bodysurftheglobe [IG] and A Pictorial History of Surfing. Bodysurfing has been around since life first left the ocean and immediately regretted it, but from the little we know, actually traversing the wave with your body alone only really began to take hold in the late 1930s or early '40s when "Santa Monica lifeguard Cal Porter taught himself how to ride at an angle across the wave face rather than straight to the beach" - or so Wikipedia s...ays! Of course, many people, including the great Duke Kahanamoku, were sliding waves au naturele well before that, but maybe it's Cal who we have to thank for adapting, innovating and creating the bodysurfing style we know today... We'd love to hear your insights and any pearls you've found on the art of bodysurfing 'sideways'. Mark Cunningham, The Legend - we're looking at you! See more

09.01.2022 Keep it classic. The Classic timber Series - available in Riva or Go Kart templates - is a little heavier than its Onyx carbon fibre counterpart. We're only talking a couple fo grams, but that added weight can offer exceptional benefit when you're dealing with wind and chop. Even though you're applying pressure, the Classic series gives you a firmer base, sliding through those cross-shore ripples like they aren't even there. Weight - sometimes it's a good thing... https://www.garagehandplanes.com.au/search?q=classic*

05.01.2022 Simplicity. One of the biggest benefits of our whomping life:

05.01.2022 Cramp Sucks - plane and simple...and it always seems to happn on the heavy wipeouts Spinning in the mire, not knowing which is up or down, water flooding your brain, the last thing you need is that locked up feeling like a cow just stood on your calf. Parada Letícia Moreira has found the cure. Discover her three tips to avoiding cramps in the ocean in her latest video:

04.01.2022 It's always two-foot bigger and twice as good when there's no one else to see it... Being the only one out can be a dream come true, but it can also get inside your head and make you back down when you'd normally kick over the ledge. Perfect moments, caught by 16images

04.01.2022 Don't underestimate the power of the gutslide. Sometimes making like a seagull is the best way to increase speed or reduce drag to slide down the line a bit further. Skimming like a stone: alan.marconi Photo: @adrianolopes6377 on IG

03.01.2022 The Quiver. Lift vs. Speed, head-to-head. The Riva's wider template gives exceptional lift, while the rail-to-rail concave of the Garbo gives you unparalleled projection down the line. Still undecided? Get insights into every model from the brain behind the brand, on our website now: www.garagehandplanes.com.au Photo: Jamie Elliott

02.01.2022 There are four types of wave: 1 - the Bomb: it can be big or small, but it packs a punch. Kick in, hold on and wait for detonation 2 - the Line: a long wall with a steep face, but room for plenty of trickery 3 - the Slop: usually accompanied by the words, "well, it was good to get wet" 4 - the Slide: enough power to keep you sliding, room to cutback and usually induces an ear-to-ear grin!... Meredith Rose on a Slide. Which one's your favourite?
