01.01.2022 It was an exciting night with the Gawler Produce Stake Final being run and won by Long Gully Barny for Paula Hearnden as the public made a long-awaited return to the track. Air Marshall trained by Ray Murray was the favourite for the final but it was Long Gully Barny who jumped the best and took the lead to the first turn ahead of See you Smile trained by Ben Rawlings. While Air Marshall moved through the pack moving up to 3rd position, it looked like he wasn’t going to be ab...le to make up any ground and Long Gully Barny was looking the goods to win the Final. He rounded the final turn with room to spare while See you Smile wasn’t finished yet, closing the gap to the leader but Long Gully Barny held on to win by 1 lengths setting a personal best time of 30.77secs in the process. Running into 3rd place with a strong finish was Spring Burner trained by Greg Board. Paula was ecstatic to take the win, having previously finished in 2nd place before in this event so this was extra special. Upon watching the replay, Paula was humble saying that she had some fortune with Air Marshall missing the start and his trainer Ray Murray, whilst disappointed, said that Long Gully Barny was always the risk and was full of congratulations for Paula. Paula said she will see how Long Gully Barny is going toward October’s Gawler Gold Cup and with luck, will contend and hopefully take the bonus $10,000 for winning both events in the year. Congratulations again to Paula and Long Gully Barny! See more
