25.01.2022 Im injured, should I just rest? The answer is ! During periods of immobilization you are susceptible to high losses of strength and muscle tone. Movement is key! ... - - Its been shown that when strength training the non-affected side a cross over effect is seen on the injured side - Helps limit atrophy (loss of muscle tone) - Reduces detraining effects A couple of example exercises with minimal equipment by @kingbosskey Keep your clients engaged, motivated and moving : 3-5 sets of 8-15 reps of eccentric contractions with 1-2 minute rest intervals has been shown to be most effective Reference: Rafel Cirer-Sastre, Jose V. 23.01.2022 Concussion has been a big talking point in sport recently. Children aged 11 and under will no longer be taught to head footballs during training in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.... More research needs to be done on the association of heading the ball and dementia risk, however this approach will reduce the exposure for kids in training. An interesting point is whether other countries will follow these protocols and how this will affect the game moving forward. Will there be more emphasis on the technical aspect and ground game... food for thought #football #soccer #theworldgame #concussion #soccer #physiotherapy #physio #strengthandconditioning See more

21.01.2022 . A popular trend seen in rehab and training is the use of an uneven surface (BOSU or exercise ball). The current thought process behind the use of an uneven surface is to make the exercise more difficult,... challenge balance, proprioception and work on core strength.. : Training on an uneven surface does NOT allow for sufficient loading to induce strength gains Training on an unstable surface resulted in LOWER peak power and rate of force development compared to training on a stable surface Training on an uneven surface attenuates power gains derived from concurrent stable surface training (power gains are inhibited) Training on an uneven surface does NOT increase EMG activity of the core when compared to training on a stable surface Training on an uneven surface MAY be of value in scenarios in where muscles are not yet capable of unrestricted loading through a full range of motion (following acute injury) Based on the literature caution should be taken with the prescription or use of training on a BOSU, as it is a waste of time. It make look good for IG but the risk is not worth the very little reward. Instead, a program design should adhere to the principle of specificity with respect to training surfaces. An alternative to training on an uneven surface may be the use of unilateral exercises, or the use of a load to challenge the centre of mass. : Cressey, E. M., West, C. A., Tiberio, D. 21.01.2022 Very Sad to see this in round 1 for all Richmond fans and the AFL. Richmond player Alex Rance with what looks like an ACL injury. 18.01.2022 Soft Tissue Injury prevention for Footballers Implementing eccentric exercises into programs have been shown to increase fascicle muscle length, leading to morphological changes that may protect the athlete from soft tissue injury. In football, there is a high incidence of injury to the lower limb for outfield players in both females and males. Frequently seen are... strains to the adductors, hamstrings, quads and calves. The exercises demonstrated in the video are: Nordics (Hamstrings) Copenhagen bent knee (Groins) Reverse Nordics (Quads) Single Leg Calf Raise (Calves) Eccentric exercises can be painful when completed and can produce muscle soreness following.
