19.01.2022 FLYING FOXES @ GILGANDRA SWIMMING POOL A population of flying foxes have returned to the Gilgandra Swimming Pool, taking up residency amongst trees within the pool grounds. In response, Council has restricted access through installation of temporary fencing around the impacted trees. Flying foxes are a protected native species, however do create mess from droppings under their roost areas. They can present some risks to public health and Council has reviewed advice from NSW H...ealth. Council is working with officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage and will soon commence work on implementing a management plan, which will include a period of community consultation. Pool patrons are reminded to follow direction from staff on site and stay out of the sectioned off areas. The flying foxes provide no immediate risk to swimmers using the pool. Read Council's full media release at https://www.gilgandra.nsw.gov.au//Flying-Foxes-Invade-Gilg Please contact Council on 6817 8800 if there are any questions regarding this matter. #LiveEnjoyGrow #MyGilgandraShire

02.01.2022 Council is pleased to partner with ARTC Inland Rail and lead a project that aims to create a positive legacy from the construction of Inland Rail. The support of Mark Coulton in advocating and assisting as our local member is much appreciated. The aim of the project is to have water infrastructure the community can use post construction. Community feedback has highlighted concern about the amount of water needed of construction. The investigation of water sources that don’t d...irectly compete with existing sources of stock and domestic supply is a key action Council has instigated and its positive to receive funding support to undertake this work. #InlandRailReady #GrowGilgandra
