25.01.2022 Like many places in regional Australia, Gippsland is doing it tough. Ongoing drought led to the dreadful bushfires, reducing visitor numbers that Gippsland tourist towns rely upon. That was swiftly followed by COVID-19 travel restrictions, bringing international and domestic tourism to a screaming halt. But one Gippsland town is determined to emerge stronger. The community of Yarram has created a vibrant display of its local history and culture that will welcome visitors when... they can return. Over five weeks, blank walls around the town were transformed with 12 colourful murals honouring those who made their mark in the history of the region, and those who continue to shape the town today. With the addition of this colourful street art, there is now even more reason to visit this quintessential Aussie town once restrictions are lifted, so we can help get Australias tourism and hospitality industries back on their feet.

21.01.2022 These past few months have really got us looking a little differently at how we spend our time at home. Sorting photos may have been on the agenda but also getting to read all those books we have been planning to. Here in the office, the consultants have set up a little library to share between them and we have nearly exhausted our supply so we are looking for inspiration. We would love to know what books you have been reading lately that you would like to recommend and why ...you enjoyed them. https://www.insightvacations.com//10-inspiring-travel-books

He said it was designed to protect people and enable regional Victoria to continue to have economic benefits. Regional Victoria needs to jealously guard those low numbers, he said. Mr Andrews said the requirement to wear masks had been adopted on the advice of Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton. See more

18.01.2022 Qantas Frequent Flyer Status Extrension update. Throughout 2020, Qantas have offered members a range of support mechanisms to retain their tier including status extension, followed by Status Credit boosts and the ability to earn them on the ground. Now, as travel resumes, they want to make sure you continue to enjoy the Qantas Frequent Flyer status benefits and privileges.... To qualify for the extension, members facing expiry in 2021 must book a Qantas-operated flight for travel until the end of 2021 between now and their current tier expiry date. By early Dec, Qantas customers will have access to 30 of the 35 domestic and regional lounges across the airline’s network. MEANWHILE, Qantas Group has resumed regular flights between Melbourne and Sydney, following the opening of the border between NSW and Vic. The resumption coincided with Qantas Chief Executive Alan Joyce stating international travel could be revived from mid next year. Our base plan is that we will probably get a significant amount of the int’l operation up in the next financial year, he said

17.01.2022 "Flashback Friday" Air Travel will certainly look a little different from 2020 onwards so we thought we would have a look back at the past (with a glimpse of the future).

17.01.2022 And this is why we love Australia Europeans: I drove 40 minutes to spend the weekend in Paris, then popped to Germany to visit family on the way home.... Australians: I was in Queensland and drove for 18 hours. Now Im still in Queensland. Photo: Cooktown is one of Queenslands hidden gems - a beautiful, unspoilt coastal town, and one of Australias most historically significant townships. This is where Lt James Cook found safe haven in 1770 to repair his ship, the "HM Bark Endeavour", and where the First Reconciliation took place between Europeans and the Guugu Yimithirr people.

15.01.2022 With the NSW border now open to Victoria, it's time to also open up our plans to seeing more of Australia. On 8th June 2021, Norfolk Island will be celebrating 165th Bounty Day, their national day, the anniversary of the arrival of the Pitcairn Islanders to Norfolk Island. This is a great time to visit the island and to be part of the celebrations, so why not join the Gippsland Travel 10-day fully escorted tour, departing Warragul on 6 June 2021, escorted by Senior Travel C...onsultant, Jacinta Anderson. Perhaps the centrepiece of Bounty Day is the all-of-community picnic that features traditional dishes in amazing abundance! Island dancing and music also kicks in as the festive part of the day really begins. As the afternoon wears on the adults sit back with a ‘baeli ful’ (full belly) and the children play cricket or throw a football about. Children and adults alike also enjoy the ‘Bounty Ball’ during the week. Dressed in their finest suits they compete, waltz and barn-dance the night away. There are only a few places still available on the tour, with limited availability on the island during this wonderful event. Call the office on 5623 5151 or email [email protected] to save your spot on what will be a highlight of 2021. Full details such as the itinerary and costs are also available on our website. www.gippslandtravel.com.au/escortedtours #norfolkisland #bountyday #explorensw
