25.01.2022 ATTENTION: Clubs, Players, Coaches and Volunteers. . UPDATE: COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Health and Hygiene guidelines for Victorian cricket. As you will be aware, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared COVID-19 Coronavirus at pandemic level internationally.... To reduce the risk of person-to-person transmission of the Coronavirus disease, Cricket Victoria seeks the support of all people involved in the game (whether they be playing, support staff, administrators, volunteers or others) in taking note of the below actions to promote higher levels of sanitisation and individual hygiene. At this point in time there is no advice that cancellation or postponement of these local fixtures is required, however we urge everyone involved in Victorian cricket to exercise a caution and common-sense approach to their training and match day setups. The below measures should be put into effect now by all Victorian cricket teams to reduce the spread of all illnesses, including COVID-19: Hand sanitiser to be available in team rooms and players/staff encouraged to use it as well as completing hand washing prior to meals Players should avoid using saliva as a method of shining the cricket ball All players with any form of respiratory or associated illness or symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should self-isolate and report this immediately to medical staff and be quarantined from training and all matches until assessed and cleared. Players and coaches should not attend training while ill. Do not share drinks, towels, lip balm, sunscreen with others (bring your own) Limit change room and training attendance to staff who have an operational reason to be there Limit sharing of cricket equipment (other than the ball) The best way to protect yourself and your family is to pay attention to good hand and respiratory hygiene. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow, dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards. Wash your hands regularly, after using the toilet and before eating. If you have concerns about your health, please see your doctor. Healthcare workers are advised to use appropriate infection prevention control measures when looking after patients. 19.01.2022 ALL CRICKET CANCELLED THIS WEEKEND Considering the impact that the COVID-19 outbreak is having in the Sunbury area, with Sunbury Shopping Centre being classified as a Tier 1 site, and in consultation with both DHHS and Cricket Victoria, the Board has made the decision to abandon all cricket scheduled for this weekend. While unfortunate, teh health and safety of the cricket community is paramount and we felt that this is the most appropriate course of action. When you consider... the position sporting associations were in last year, to have had an uninterrupted season up to this point is something we can all be grateful for. Please note that there is no intention to replay this round at this stage. Please keep across emails, the GDCA website and Facebook page for further updates regarding the remainder of the season. We are hopeful that there will be no further interruptions.

13.01.2022 VALE DENNIS INGRAM It is with sadness that the association has been informed of the passing of former GDCA president, Dennis Ingram. Dennis held the position of president for three seasons - 1989/90 to 1991/92 and was a great supporter of cricket in the region. Dennis played for the Clarkefield and Riddell Cricket Clubs and held positions on both club committees for a number of years. His funeral will be held at the Riddell Cricket Clubrooms on Thursday March 19 commencing a...t 10.30am followed by burial at the Riddell's Creek cemetery. Deepest sympathies to Maureen and family.

10.01.2022 Melton South Cricket Club became the 24th member club of the Gisborne and District Cricket Association after the club's affiliation was confirmed at the competition's Annual General Meeting held on Sunday 23rd August via online platform. Melton South intends to field at least one team in the lower divisions of the GDCA while its top two teams remain in the VTCA. Different scenarios have been developed to provide a starting time for the cricket season based on the easing of go...vernment-imposed COVID-19 restrictions. The association is hopeful of a late October/early November start. The latest start for this season has been set at Saturday January 30th. All matches will be played as one-day fixtures due to the protocols and rules in place to protect players and supporters from infection. Most of the GDCA's key office-bearers were returned with Rob McIntyre continuing as president and Chris Large his new vice-president. Simon Ovenden and Kevin Sullivan will again hold the secretary and treasurer positions while Kelly Shinn continues in her role in overseeing the junior girls competition. Two inaugural board members have stepped down. Garry Wilson and Colin Bruhn did not seek re-election. Garry will concentrate his energies at his club, Sunbury United and Col is moving to Tasmania. Both were thanked for their service over the years and will be replaced by two new members - Richard Bayly who has been heavily involved in junior cricket at Bacchus Marsh and Callum Jackman, a former president at Gisborne. A new, five-year sponsorship agreement with Kookaburra Sport was announced to the delegates at the meeting. Kookaburra match balls will again be used exclusively in all senior and junior matches. Kookaburra has increased its sponsorship of the GDCA and will continue to supply apparel to the association's senior and junior representative teams. Club kits of training balls and a set of stumps will be provided to member clubs each season at no cost.

10.01.2022 WOMEN'S CRICKET TEAMS WANTED: A reminder to all clubs that the GDCA will be running a senior women’s competition for the first time this season. We ask that clubs please consider entering a team for this inaugural season. The competition will be a T/20 format held on Sundays, with a game approximately every three weeks. 04.01.2022 GDCA GOLF DAY CANCELLED Due to the uncertainty with organising events due to COVID restrictions, the GDCA Golf Day scheduled for Sunday 21 February has been cancelled. We will look to reschedule this event early in the 2021/22 cricket season.

04.01.2022 GDCA FINALS CANCELLED On advice from Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria regarding the current COVID-19 infection, the GDCA Board has decided that all training sessions and finals matches are to be cancelled for the remainder of the 2019-20 season. The medical advice from Cricket Australia is based upon: 1. The considerable measures that need to be in place to be consistent with the social distancing measures that are required to reduce risks of spreading the virus.... 2. Cricket volunteers and players vary in age and older members of the community are likely to be more significantly affected by the virus. 3.The number of players and officials who could unknowingly be in contact with someone who has the virus with the risk of spreading it in the club social environment. 4. A significant percentage of players will also sensibly be undertaking social isolation from the work place or schools and it would be unreasonable to continue if a team has players undertaking social isolation for legitimate reasons. The higher-ranked team of the two finalists in each division will be declared premiers for season 2019-20. Premiership cups will be awarded at an event to be held closer to the commencement of the 2020-21 season.

03.01.2022 The GDCA will play Murray Valley in the final of Bendigo Country Week after winning a rain-shortened match against Grassmere today.

03.01.2022 Due to the ever-increasing threat of the spread of the COVID-19 Corona virus, the GDCA Senior and Junior Annual Presentation Nights have been cancelled. The association will look to hold a function before the commencement of next cricket season to recognise the 2019/20 award winners.
