25.01.2022 Tasmania SES volunteer Bill Folder has been awarded the Australian Search and Rescue (SAR) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Search and Rescue. Bill’s award... recognises his dedication and commitment to search and rescue in Tasmania. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the national awards presentation in Canberra was unable to be held this year which meant we had the pleasure of presenting Bill with the SAR Award for Outstanding Contribution to Search and Rescue along with his wife Sue and family, said Acting Sergeant Callum Herbert of Tasmania Police Search and Rescue. Bill is an experienced and enthusiastic member of Tasmania’s search and rescue capability who is held in high regard with his peers. I know first-hand that Bill has made a significant impact on many within the search and rescue field as it was his influence that inspired me to join the Tasmania Police Search and Rescue team. I am honoured to stand beside Bill as he receives his Award today and congratulate him on his achievement and national recognition, said Acting Sergeant Herbert. Bill enrolled as an SES volunteer in 1977. He has been actively involved with SES operations and provided exemplary support service to managers and training to peers. Bill’s contribution towards Search and Rescue in Tasmania has been invaluable, said SES Tas Regional Manager South, Mark Nelson. He is a well-respected, keen, dedicated and reliable SES member who has trained many of his peers in remote area and alpine search and rescue operations in Tasmanian wilderness. Bill was an inaugural member of the Southern SES Search and Rescue Team when it was formed, and he was a driving force behind its establishment and development. On behalf of SES Tasmania I congratulate Bill on his Award today and thank him for his longstanding dedication and contribution to search and rescue and saving lives, said Regional Manager Nelson. Well done Bill and thank you for your service!
