18.01.2022 He went back to his gun Dr Ray Leonard served on HMAS Armidale with Teddy Sheean. He was there on the 1st of December 1942, when Armidale was sunk and Teddy ...turned his back on the opportunity to survive, returned to his gun and fired on the enemy to try to save his mates. In the lead up to the Investiture Ceremony on 1 December, in which the Governor-General will present the Sheaan family with Teddy Sheean's Victoria Cross, Dr Leonard remembers that fateful day, the experience and what Teddy did. 15.01.2022 A soldier with PTSD fell into a hole and couldn’t get out. When a SNCO walked by the Soldier called out for help, but the SNCO yelled back, "Suck it up son, dig... deep and drive on," then threw him a shovel. The Soldier did as he was told and dug that hole deeper. A Senior Officer went by and the Soldier called out for help again. The Officer told him "use the tools your SNCO has given you", then threw him a bucket. The Soldier used the tools and he dug the hole deeper still and filled the bucket. A psychiatrist walked by. The Soldier called, Help! I can’t get out! so the psychiatrist gave him some drugs and said, "Take this. It will relieve the pain and you will forget about the hole. The Soldier said "thanks" and followed his advice, but when the pills ran out he was still in the hole. A well-known psychologist rode by and heard the Soldiers cries for help. He stopped and asked, How did you get there? Were you born there? Did your parents put you there? Tell me about yourself, it will alleviate your sense of loneliness. So the Soldier talked with him for an hour, then the psychologist had to leave, but he said he’d be back next week. The Soldier thanked him, but he was still in the hole. Another Soldier , just like him, happened to be passing by. The Soldier with PTSD cried out, Hey, help me. I’m stuck in this hole! and right away the other Soldier jumped down in there with him. The Soldier with PTSD started to panic and said, What are you doing? Now we’re both stuck down here! But the other Soldier just smiled and replied, It’s okay, calm down, brother. I’ve been here before..... I know how to get out. No matter what you're going through, you are never alone. But don't be too proud to SHOUT OUT!, 'HELP I'm stuck in this Hole' ... We all get stuck in a hole from time to time but all it takes is to ask your mates for help and we will be there even if we have to jump in that hole with you.

07.01.2022 T’WAS THE DAWN CHRISTMAS MORNING by Ian Coate (Apologies to Clement Clarke Moore) ‘Twas the dawn Christmas morning and a soldier was sad;... He was far from his family in a nation gone bad. He thought of his children, all tucked up in bed He thought of his wife and a tear he did shed. ‘Is this crap all worth it?’ he said to his mate, ‘I wanna go home, not sit here and wait.’ His mate thought for a bit, then said with a smile: ‘It’s the reason we’re here that makes this worthwhile. ‘We’re tired and we’re cramped in this pit in the ground So our families are safe and free all year round. ‘We’re doing our bit, like those in the past, So peace has a chance and freedom can last.’ The soldier nodded his head this year had been tough; He’d seen warfare and famine and nastier stuff. He thought of his children and thought of his wife And was thankful they had such a fortunate life. Seeing some shepherds protecting their herds, He suddenly smiled and whispered the words: ‘Merry Christmas my family I really miss you, But my presence right here is my present to you.’ https://iancoate.com/

07.01.2022 Appreciation Post. A couple of years ago, our Wellbeing Team developed a vision of creating a sensory space in the school to assist students who may need su...pport in regulating their emotions. After a generous donation from the Glen Innes RSL Sub Branch and Joanne and Ken Michell, our vision came to fruition this week. We invited Ken, Joanne and Aleishia from the RSL Sub Branch along with some of our students to play and explore the sensory items. Ken and Joanne Michell regularly donate items to support our breakfast club program and have done for years. We took this opportunity to thank them for their personal contributions by presenting them with an Education Week 2020 Appreciation certificate. See more
