21.01.2022 Good fun day yesterday with Ash, despite it being character building. Ash has almost got his C Certificate & was keen to see how I did things. We had hoped for ...a struggle, then into booming conditions, then easy glide home - sadly it wasn't to be & became more of a struggle as we headed East. We discussed many things, primarily thermal entry, centring, thermal sources & lots of paddock selection Satisfying day out, glad we went out of glide after the first glide, achieved plenty! Thanks for sharing this flight with me Ash

18.01.2022 Day two of the Carter Cup. Mixed bag with high level cloud over most of the task area. The forecast was for a blue windy day, however after the light rain from ...a few days ago some small Cu did pop up during the day in selected areas. I turned the last turn too early on the clock and paid the price on the scores, went around at 120kph but pulled back after the 5 mins was added for the day. I figured the day would be very weak under the high Cirrus coming home but in fact it was really good All in all a fun but challenging day. See more

17.01.2022 and it is like that

14.01.2022 Weeeeeeeeeeeell, just how I remembered the WA gliding days to be.... windy and blue! Tough day with very broken thermals to around 4500 agl with a 2 1/2 AAT wi...th the customary Beecroft wedge. Great format to allow all classes of gliders to fly on the same task starting and finishing around the same time. It was hard work but rewarding today, if you could pick the streets it gave you a reprieve, almost everyone had a grovel at some point, some a few more than one.... there was a couple of out landings but the tug was on hand to sort them, so everyone was home for tea. Tomorrow the forecast is for thunderstorms right over the top from about 4am so could be a down day .... See more

14.01.2022 So as suggested yesterday, no flying today due the WX. I traveled to the little town to the west of Cunderdin called Meckering, the first place I went to school.... Meckering is known for the big earthquake which happened in Oct 1968 which reached .6.9 on the scale. Again in the heart of the wheat belt it’s populated mostly by the farming community. The other bit of info is on the water pipe line which runs from Perth to Kalgoorlie, it was built early in the 19 century which ensured the city was developed. The pioneer who designed and oversaw the building never actually saw it work prior to committing suicide. A little shed I found also in Meckering has there biggest collections of cameras I’ve ever seen. The gentleman told me there is more than 3000 cameras, and every single one is in working order...... and they say I’ve got issues collecting gliders See more

09.01.2022 First day of the Carter Cup in Cunderdin WA after the storms canned the planned start on Sunday. Mixed bag flying wise, forecast looked pretty good however the... sky was very different over the tasked area, from ok to claggy Cu to some good ones again.... the day cycled a few times. Mostly getting to 4500 agl didn’t give much glide time so picking the right climbs was the key. Good day and so glad to be back with the Mistress No1 The Tiger Moth greats you as you arrival into Cunderdin, bit of a read about Chums Tiger. See more
