24.01.2022 Stallholders... We know you're really busy... so we're extending our deadline to join the online Creative Directory we're building. We know Christmas is only five weeks away and many of you are doing the Tactile Arts Christmas Craft Fair this weekend, so we decided it was only fair to give people a little extra time to sign up for the online creative directory we are building to help connect you with your customers.... The online form is really FAST and EASY- and we plan on leaving the directory up indefinitely as a way for people to find the creatives they love between craft fairs. So we're giving you until Monday 30 November to get your information in for a free listing. We're providing the directory as a community service in the absence of the Green Ant Christmas Craft Fair and we've had lots of people join up already (three cheers to all of you!), but we're hoping to get as many of you on board as possible. You don't need to have an online shop to join, or even a website - a Facebook or Instagram page or even an email address or phone number will do, as long as you can provide a way for customers to find you from the portal. 18.01.2022 Artist of the Day! PM edition Virginia Boyanton ... Virginia took up ceramics as a way to destress from her intense day job as a social worker. She believes there is no greater joy than plunging her hands into mud and creating something beautiful and unique. Colour, texture and pattern are central to her work, achieved by imprinting doilies, lace, fabrics and other objects into damp clay. 16.01.2022 This year, we asked stallholders to make a decoration for the Christmas tree. We asked Kate Gosling to come along and judge the competition for us. The winner will receive a free stall at the Green Ant Christmas Craft Fair in 2020. We also ran a people's choice award and asked all our lovely customers to vote for their favourites. The winner of the people's choice award wins $100 cash. We're also doing a draw from the vote casters and the winner will receive a $100 gift voucher to spend at The Local in Parap. I make many products from baby singlets with quirky sayings to polly clay earrings..magnets..prints..teatowels and much much more. Actually too much more so this year I have decided to downsize to just prints..cards and magnets, so this means lots of bargains for you as most of my stock will be going at a very reduced rate. When I was in Bali I used to make woven basket and mats and lots of craft and arts item to sale . And now I live in Australia I have been doing a lots of sewing from mending to alterations and have upgraded to dress making using mostly indigenous fabric. 03.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STALL HOLDERS GREEN ANT 2020 INTERIM COVID-19 ADVICE We’ve reached that time of year when here at The Flying Gecko Project we usually start the wheels turning for the Green Ant Christmas Craft Fair. As much as we’d like to announce that at least this one thing in our lives is going to be business as usual this year, it’s really too early to know yet whether we will be able to go ahead under COVID-19 restrictions. ... With conditions still changing from week to week and particularly in light of the recent unfortunate turn of events in Victoria and the current uncertainty in NSW it’s just too early to make a call. This is largely due to the fact that there are still quite restrictive conditions being placed on large gatherings in indoor venues. If these relax, we’re good to go. If they don’t, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to manage hygiene requirements and social distancing which will impact heavily on the number of stalls as well as the number of patrons we can allow in at any time. Under those conditions, we’ll have to make a very tough decision. If restrictions tighten, we simply won’t be able to operate at all. In light of recent outbreaks, and especially now that our border is open to much of the country, the next few weeks are going to be really important in determining what November in the Top End looks like apart from being hot and sweaty, which is a given! We’d hate to get everyone’s hopes up only to dash them when you’ve been busy making stock in anticipation. So, as much as we’d love to be announcing that applications are opening soon, we’re asking for your patience while we continue the wait-and-see game that has characterised much of 2020. We want this event to happen at least as much as all of you, but we can’t risk public health and we certainly don’t want to find ourselves getting shut down either in the lead up or on the weekend itself. There’s a huge amount of planning involved and a lot of money to outlay getting everything organised for the event so we have to be certain before we press go.
