24.01.2022 ARE YOU A SELF-DETERMINED ATHLETE? Motivation is one of the foundations of successful sport performance. Self-determination theory (SDT) examines the distinction between two types of motivation: self-determined and controlled.... To be self-determined means to act with a sense of volition and choice. A self-determined athlete trains/competes because they find sport enjoyable or interesting (i.e. intrinsic motivation) or because they value the benefits of sport participation (e.g. physical health, spending time with friends, skill development). In contrast, motivation that is fuelled by pressure from others (e.g. family, friends, coach, teammates) or pressure from within (e.g. guilt) is known as controlled motivation. The distinction between the two is important as a growing body of research has highlighted the benefits of being involved in sport for more self-determined reasons. These include: Experience of positive emotions Use of adaptive coping strategies in stressful situations Investment of higher levels of concentration, persistence and effort

24.01.2022 RECRUITING COACHES & GROUP LEADERS FOR 2021 There will be many different coaching opportunities available at Greensborough in 2021 as we will be increasing the opportunities and support for all our juniors. In addition to the traditional team based coach, we we will also need group leaders to work with smaller groups where the players will be in groups based on abilities & needs and not age groups, as is the case with teams in the HV competition.... As we will have a range of needs there are opportunities to match your level of involvement. Coaches and assistants for teams (a season long commitment) or coaches for single sessions or for a short series of sessions. So no matter your availability, we will have something for you. No experience coaching! No problems, we will offer 'train the trainer' for everyone. So players, parents or anyone. Message us if you can help in 2021! We are now recruiting coaches for 2021 so message us if you have any questions m.me/greenhc01

21.01.2022 10 REASONS WHY HOCKEY IS GREAT FOR KIDS 1 Easy to learn, starting with fun programs for 4 to 5 year olds where the development of motor skills, balance and coordination are more important. 2 Easy to do, we start with moving the ball and having fun with children of the same age age. 3 Hockey is great exercise as it is played outdoors with lots of running at various speeds and in different directions... 4 Fair play is central to hockey so children learn to play by the rules of good sportsmanship, playing fairly, respecting other players and the officials 5 Social skills are part hockey as communication and cooperation are vital to the game. Children learn teamwork skills and make new friends at the same time. 6 The team is more important than the individual as all players are taught the value of possession in short bursts and the actions of the team over the actions of the individual. 7 Hockey is suitable for all as players as hockey does not require players to be of a certain height, size or speed. 8 Hockey is not a contact sport so it is a sport with a lower risk of injury when compared with other rougher team sports. 9 Always the chance to learn new skills. Anyone can play hockey but for kids wanting improve, there are more skills, more tricks and strategies you can learn. Hockey is fun to play - from 5 to 75 See more
