23.01.2022 Did you know that we have a parent collection in the library, available for parents to borrow? We've recently added books by adolescent psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg, who is a well-respected speaker and one of Australia's leading authorities on teenage behaviour, as well as founder of CanTeen, the cancer patients' support group for teenagers. Our new additions include some of his bestselling titles: Surviving Adolescents; The Princess Bitchface Syndrome 2.0; and The Prince Boofhead Syndrome. Library staff will be happy to direct you to the location of the parent shelf and help you borrow if you would like to do so.

23.01.2022 One of our popular Book Week activities is "Stop, drop and read" which kicked off on Monday morning. Throughout the week, students will rotate through different sessions hosted by various teachers, some of whom dressed for the occasion as you can see.

22.01.2022 We are super excited about the Enola Holmes movie, based on the series by Nancy Springer. The Year 5-6 Book Club has chosen the first book in the series, "Enola Holmes and the Case of the Missing Marquess" as their group read. Any students in Year 5-6 can join the Book Club just drop into the Library on Thursdays at first break.

21.01.2022 Did you know that it’s only 9 weeks until Book Week? We are already starting to get excited in the library. Check out our amazing piles of shortlisted and notable books from the CBCA Book of the Year awards.

19.01.2022 Check out some of the books that arrived over the holidays. There is something for everyone. Find them on the new book displays this week.

19.01.2022 Six weeks until Book Week 2020!! It’s not long to go now. And yes, the CBCA awards date has changed this year due to COVID-19. The circulation desk display is up, featuring the artwork of Year 9 student, Millie Toy. It has been a pleasure to turn Millie’s amazing artwork into bookmarks, signs, a display for the Circulation desk and a giant mural for the Junior Room. Keep an eye out for these displays and more popping up soon in the library as we count down to October 17-23.

16.01.2022 I'm a big fan of Rebecca Sparrow. She has great ideas about kids reading. Have a look at this link and see if this exciting new online book club might suit your child.

15.01.2022 It was a very busy Day One in the library today as more than 2,500 textbooks and around 1000 work books were rolled out, and students keenly swapped the books they'd read over the holidays for new ones

14.01.2022 We love it when Mr Oreb comes to visit the library, carting the printing paper, new books, or in this case, a little something extra special. Drumroll please. we are now the happy owners of 3 Cricut Joys and accessories. These little crafting and paper cutting wonders will be used in the library makerspace and in a soon-to-be-announced Maker Club. Stay tuned for more details to come soon. A huge thank you to our wonderful P&F.

14.01.2022 Year 9 students Holly Purcell and Allie Littman took charge of the Year 1 Book Club this year. Their fine marketing skills resulted in 40+ students attending the first session. Half way through Term 1 it is still proving to be a very popular place to be at Tuesday AM break.

13.01.2022 We love picture books and so do our students. The GSLC Library has a wonderful picture book collection from which students can browse and borrow. We asked our students about some of their favourites.

13.01.2022 It was so lovely to see everyone back in the library last week. There was lots of borrowing happening and students were enjoying the library space.

11.01.2022 The Year 9 Art class’s watercolour pieces are now on display in the library for students and staff to enjoy. Using the subject matter of Australian flora and fauna, students set about mastering the techniques of texture and colour. They trialled these techniques with smaller sized pieces featuring Australian birds before moving to Australian flowers and larger pieces. The class decided as a group which of their works they would like featured and framed, though it was hard to choose from such a wonderful array of beautiful creations.

11.01.2022 We have really enjoyed celebrating Mystery in the Library. Students have entered a range of hunts and guessing competitions, as well as borrowing Mystery Books. Special thanks to Elise in Year 6 for creating the Top Secret Mystery Hunt, and well done everyone who entered the competitions. Winners were announced last Friday. Enjoy your prizes.

11.01.2022 The CBCA Book of the Year winners have been announced. Last week, students in Year 1-5 voted on which books they thought might win in each category and they had very strong ideas about what makes a good cover.

10.01.2022 Author and storyteller, Michelle Worthington, is visiting GSLC during Book Week. Library classes this week have been reading from her wonderful range of picture books in readiness for the workshops and author talks next week.

07.01.2022 We love mystery thrillers in the GSLC Library, so we were eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of Ellie Marney’s "None Shall Sleep." Our Year 7-12 Book Club members entered a competition to win an advanced reader’s copy. To win, they had to write about their favourite fictional villain and explain why they would like to interview them. It was a great way to chat about villains in books we’ve read and discuss what makes a good (or maybe that should be bad) villain. As a nice surprise, we WON!! We are looking forward to this book being on our shelves soon or after bookclub members have read it, anyway. Thanks to Allen and Unwin for the opportunity. #YAMystery @AllenAndUnwin @EllieMarney

06.01.2022 Ready to go... We been unpacking boxes, stacking textbooks and printing lists ready for students and teachers to collect tomorrow. We're excited about seeing everyone after the holidays and hearing about all the things they did.

06.01.2022 Students are busy creating paper airplanes and paper poppers in the library courtyard. There's been keen competition around whose plane can stay in the air the longest

05.01.2022 We are strongly in the #TheBookWasBetter camp, but sometimes it is awesome to see your favourite novel brought to life on the big or little screen. Here are some of the books with movies or TV series coming soon.

03.01.2022 Rory and Charles were very willing to give us a helping hand today as we unpacked about 12 boxes of new textbooks needed for the start of Term 4

02.01.2022 One of the nicest end-of-term tasks in the library is preparing holiday reading packs for our teachers and ancillary staff. It's wonderful to have so many of them who love reading and who are looking forward to spending some holiday time indulging in a new book. Favourite requests this week included 'The Dictionary of Lost Words' by Pip Williams, 'The Resilience Project' by Hugh van Cuylenburg and 'The Yield' by Tara Winch.

02.01.2022 Students from Years 3 to 6 play chess each Thursday in the library, mentored by Year 11 student Luka Robinson.

01.01.2022 One of the most popular books on our shelves is Raina Telgemeier's "Smile". Our current 5 copies have been borrowed a massive 294 times and it's very rare to find one available on our shelves! I was lucky enough to stumble across a couple of hard cover editions at the Civic yesterday, along with two sure-to-be-popular Minecraft and Roblox titles. Hopefully these will help shorten the waiting lists.
